@@craftalot I find it to have a shoutier male lead, where some might want only the massed choir effect.

I used to hear this growing up in Zimbabwe, just like this from the fields of maze or mealies. Makes me feel at home every time I hear this.

Sometimes I fire up the movie just for this one brief scene. I don't know what it is about this song. You hear it once, and it lives in your soul thereafter.

I remember tbis scene well. I once went to a concert by a Bantu choir and it was this type of singing. I love classical and.baroque music, but what I heard was something else.

It is a beautiful song! I used to live in Congo when I was a child, back in the eighties.. I remember a south african told me this was a welcoming traditionnal song. But you know, it's jut a child memory 😉

The villagers are singing a welcome anthem and showing thanks for the teacher who's come to give them an education. Very touching!

THANK YOU!!! I saw both movies as a child, and I remember this scene, and I remember thinking this was possibly the best thing I'd ever heard. A few minor changes in computer technology later, and I'm sitting here with both "The Gods Must Be Crazy" movies, trying to find "That welcome song, where this woman arrives at a village for the first time and the people are singing from wherever they were standing?". Yeah, Shosholoza is a better name. Way better. I saw this 35 years ago, I'm not sure if that makes my memory pretty respectable (I remembered the movie, and that I've wanted to find this song again) ...or lousy-ish (complete inability to find the scene by eye). Whatever this was posted as part of, or moved you to post this scene with a description, thank you so much.

Elena, you can find this scene on the first movie at 1 hour and 2 minutes into the movie. There are also 2 other God Must Be Crazy movies but they are not as good as the first two, but they are also good to watch because they are so different than the normal stuff we watch.

This is the best version of the song out there and it is sung by people in the same situation and culture as the ones who made it. You’ll never find something like this again. Such an amazing thing.

I first saw this film when I was about 8 years old. I remember being absolutely mesmerized by this song. I thought that the landscape added to the majesty of the melody & therefore you could only experience the sound in person on location. I still think about this song at least once a week and it's been almost 40 years.

The very first time I saw this show, my wife and I were attending a business meeting and had to spend the night in a hotel in Pennsylvania, USA. We were looking at the TV trying to find something interesting to watch. The movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy" came on the TV and my wife and I both loved the movie and were really captivated by this scene and the song

I first saw the movie in the 1980's. Once I had web access I tried to find out what this song was. All I could find 20 years ago was scenes from the movie, but then ten years ago or so I discovered Shosolonda and identified it as the same song. I really does stick with you.

This exact version is extracted from Peter Gabriel’s version of Shosholoza. It was on the B-side of Biko when he released it as a single in 1980.

The priest's house isn't really on a hill overlooking the village and the people don't really sing they wave but it's good to see what impression the producer wanted to bring out with 2 schmucks in the background saying "bask in the glory"
