While I'd never want unrealistic back spin such as the old Tiger Woods games, the golf club 2019 could definitely add a bit more. As it stands, I can only get noticable back spin while lofting up a flop shot fully.
Hi Lee I can generate backspin on my flops occasionally, especially out of bunkers on an upslope - but thats really about it. It doesnt bother me to much as long as I can hold the green - which is difficult on 187's. Cya Doug
There a few golf games with too much backspin, but yes in this game it has been removed, you need wind against and a slope, and a wedge, mid irons, fast greens, forget it. i just want to be able to hold a fast green without having to pitch on the fairway first!!!. As ever great video.
Hi all, I've just created my very first golf course in the game "Whispering Pines Royal Golf Course" if possible and you find the time to play it I'd greatly appreciate it thank you everyone
@@Early1981 oh my god that's awesome its "Whispering Pines Royal Go" when searching, unfortunately, I didnt realize they had a character cap when I published, sorry
Hey Early! Hope all is well. New course is out. Excited to see your playthrough. Cheers. tgctours.proboards.com/thread/23194/suzaku-japan-cc-championship-design?page=1&scrollTo=542016
Thanks for the vid, got Golf Club 2 and never saw any back spin. Though can use some pointers here, always a wee bonus getting a Scot doing a tutorial, nice one bud 🥃
Highlights of Rory/Dustin charity match from Sunday at below link. Watch Rory's wedge shot at 1:22. Took one hop and stopped, just like TGC. That's a realistic way for a properly struck wedge golf shot to react. I've watched a lot of golf, and if anything, the pro's try to minimize the type of backspin that sucks the ball off the green and ends up 30 yards back down the fairway. They want enough spin to stop the ball where it lands, too many variables otherwise, and pro golfers don't like variables :) . I believe golf fans remember approach shots where the green is severely banked beyond the hole, the pro intentionally hits the ball 20 feet or so beyond the hole, and due to the combination of ball spin and green slope, the ball nicely sucks back to the pin. And the same will happen in TGC. But much more common are the shots Rory hit in this video. And IMHO, the TGC 2019. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9uB7t4S070k.html
Great input Gary I also watched the event and I recall on 1 hole all 4 players spinning the ball backwards too the hole. Yes the ball bites and checks up on the game but there is no backspin generated. When the game was released backspin was achievable but they patched it out. Its something that I hope is realistically added to PGATour 2k21.
I can get a bit pretty consistently with a full loft flop shot with master clubs but it's not a lot and it's not terribly realistic. It kinda squirrels about in a weird way. I managed to back spin one past the hole and nearly in the other day. I often use a fully lofted flop from a bunker if. I want to get like 15 yards I use a slow/ very slow swing and get some decent back spin. But the only way I've gotten decent back spin is down a hill.
I very much agree with you bud. I'm an average player on Pro clubs. Your knowledge is impressive. Will you get Early access to PGATour 2k21 as I'm not buying it until I get your feedback on it?
You can never create back spin with the height of the tee peg, you would have to have an option to play without a tee peg! Love the vids and keep up the good work. Stay safe 😉👍🏻🏴
No need for backspin when your tee shots are filthy accurate like that. My issue with the mechanics on this game (mind you I've only been playing it a couple days now) is that I club down to land short and roll to the pin but the ball still launches much further than the max distance of the club. And this is at dead level greens with very little degree of elevation. Realistically the club that's right on the pin should land close bounce once or twice and roll back a few feet. Especially if you're adjusting the loft to max. Not happy with the physics at this point and it's almost killing what could be a great game.
I fully agree with you pal. Hopefully the physics are improved on PGATOUR2K21 which releases soon. Keep your eyes peeled for my next round. I think I broke the spin mechanics
@@Early1981 how about another gripe about physics on this God damn game. Hitting at a green that's 30ft up from my location so club up right? Nope guranteed that club will go way long and leave you past the pin with no shot at a decent putt. Takes everything you know about golf and adjusting for terrain and throws it out the window. And I got this game based on the reviews of "a realistic golf experience." Next complaint will be about hitting the ball from a sloped lie. Need to adjust for the slope right? Nope it'll go wherever the fuck it wants. Only a week in and I'm over this game. Only thing saving it is there plethora of courses and the graphics.
What amazes me with this (and so many other) games is how something so fundamentally flawed (in this case the lack of back spin) is not corrected after multiple patches...its almost like developers have complete disdain for their customers.
Very new to the game. And yeah I completely agree. Reading a bit up in the game I was surprised to see the game hadn't been patched since Dec. Even then its not anything major fixed. Is it the same ppl and team releasing the new TGC coming out soon? If so. Do we have high hopes? :/
@@Chp82 It is HB again along with 2K studios. Personally I don't have high hopes at all because making money/marketing is the priority for these companies rather than developing an optimal product.
You're flop at 7:22 is from a sharply downhill lie. The ball checked up nicely, which indicates plenty of backspin, but no way could you expect that to back up, IMHO.
I would really just like to see the game have a more realistic level of difficulty, whether that involves backspin or not. My fear is that giving the player too much control over the spin of the ball will just turn it into more of an arcade style game. Look at the leaderboards for TGCTours, its already ridiculous as it is. People are shooting scores in the 50s on every round especially the guys winning the PGA events. Yes, I know True Sim is a little bit better, but still. Most of us are +double digit handicaps. I would really like to have a more realistic competition level with some grind to it. Maybe I am in the minority.
I would really like to see a club set that is harder than the master clubs. As for the back spin it should be improved to a realistic standard and maybe only achieved with a perfect perfect swing tempo. It's going to be interesting to see what they do.
Early ive been subscribed to the channel since the early days of TGC2 and try and watch every minute of your videos. In my opinion you are the most talented Virtual golf player I've seen on RU-vid and I agree fully with your thoughts. Backspin is not in the game mechanics if I recall it was achievable when the game first released. Great content as always.
To be honest, backspin isn't just something that happens with a good strike. Naturally, every shot that is hit in golf will generate an amount of spin, but increased spin leading to backspin comes from a multitude of things in the setup: Lofted club, soft core golf ball like a ProV1, having clean crisp lies, placing ball deep in your stance allowing you to be able to compress the ball with an aggressive accelerated swing, your swing then requires a steeper pickup on your backswing to increase the angle of attack and thought impact allow your wrists to maintain a straight line with a shallow divot (kind of like playing a flop shot without an open clubface). Too big a divot and you reduce spin, same if you allow your wrists to break the line. Trying to bring that into the game is hugely complicated because there are differences in setup and swing between stock shots, and generating more spin shots. Sure you can loft up the club a bit more in the game but the overall setup hasn't changed and you are just hitting stock shots with a more lofted club. Next time you go to a golf tournament (if you go to any) head to the range and watch the pro's, its a completely different setup and swing. Another thing you need to bear in mind is that the golf ball that the pro's play with is not the same as the ones you buy in the shop. The game does have backspin, but only with the shots that are set up to generate more spin like the pitch shot and the flop shot. The only real way to do it with full shots in the game is into the wind because it holds up the ball in the air and drops at an angle much closer to 90 degrees. One thing I've been looking for from the game over the last few years is a 4th clubset difficulty above Master or buttons that can manipulate the swing pre shot. Like a button for increased spin, a button for decreased spin, not something that can be manipulated in the air like Tiger games, but one that you make in your setup, because altering loft doesn't actually do it.
Some decent points in your essay 🤣. The game in my opinion doesn't have backspin in its mechanics. It's too random and like were all saying you need certain elements to make it realistic. I'd love to see the master clubs made more challenging or like you say a 4th club set that is going to test the best of swings out there.
@@Early1981 ya apologies for the essay but it just showcases the complexity in mechanics just to create more spin. I'd love another clubset that was tough but risk reward. Harder to hit great shots but when you did you got the benefit of an extra few yards (like hitting it on the sweet spot of the driver) and maybe getting a bit more spin on a well struck wedge shot.
Dont apologise pal it's great to get an experienced player and designers thoughts on things. I 100% agree with you on the club set and the examples you mention
The fact that it hops and stops shows there plenty enough back spin. The game is realistic. The whole tap a button for spin thing is silly IMO and wanting the ball to just suck backwards is silly. It doesn’t always happen like that for pros and like you said a lot of it has to do with conditions and the ball
I cant see 2K introducing the manual spin like TW but the lack of realistic back spin in the game currently is a shame. Yes you can get the ball to sit down on soft greens but the lack of spin is evident
WIth respect , incorrect. Everyone else on this thread (hugely experienced game players among them) agree that the frequency with which back spin occurs is not close to being enough. It is pretty much impossible to achieve apart from with highly lofted flops
