Tom! Thank you! I've never seen a video that explained the golf swing so completely! Feel proud the talent you have is a gift ! You are hands down the most understandable golf instructor I ever watched or read! You surpass the likes of Nicklaus, Faldo, Malaska, Leadbetter.... Great Job!
OMG Tom, this is salvation... A good way to introduce a golf swing and after some coaching, a good reference video. Cheers to all Sugoto golfers. I am thrilled
I've been watching your videos since the lockdown happened and I was surprised at how much I had improved by just recalling your lessons. The salsa move lession was genius. Be blessed and do all things as unto the Lord.
Tom, after watching all the videos of you I could find on RU-vid ( went to your webinar tonite too but that's a different story ) I'm convinced both of your methodology as well as if there were one person on this planet I could have a beer with right now ( masked and socially distant of course ) you'd be him. You're one funny guy. Thanks for the instructions and thanks for being you.
I’ve watched a ton of RU-vid golf instruction and by far your channel really stands out. You make it FUN and so easy to understand & follow! Finding you was by chance and I’m so happy that happened!!! Thank you! And please keep it up.
The lateral movement you discuss at around 8.30 has just transformed my golf swing, 15 years of frustration has just been explained. Thank you, your a legend in my books. Cannot wait until this virus crisis has past and I can kick ass.
Thanks John - I sincerely appreciate that!! Tom PS: By the way, here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/
Hey Tom, what a refreshing simple logical approach to the game of golf. I took up golf when I retired about 18 months ago at age 57. I have watched literally hundreds of videos explaining the golf swing before I discovered you yesterday. Right away I noticed your swing philosophy removes a bunch of the most difficult and confusing stuff I have had jammed down my throat. I noticed you don't transfer 80% of weight to the right heel during the backswing to "load" before starting the downswing. You don't have to perfectly time the first move of hip rotation at the top of the backswing to initiate the transition, you don't "pull the club with the pinkie, ring and middle finger of the left hand" to impact, etc. etc. It is so difficult to coordinate all of the weight transfers, heel to toe loading, driving of the right elbow, coordinating/timing wrist lag - it makes my head spin and it's hard to keep it all straight. When I first started watching you yesterday I referred to you as the "crazy hippie" (sorry dude), until I threw caution to the wind and went out to my range today and followed your advice. I was absolutely crushing it! It makes perfect sense and it uses natural physics and gravity. I could never figure out how one squares the club face by pulling the club down with the left (weak) hand while the right (dominant) hand "just goes along for the ride. The selling point for me is when I started crushing my long irons (4, 3 and yes 2 iron) today. I couldn't hit them well and have been pricing hybrids as a stop gap. I'm a believer Tom, thank you. In fact I am now convinced that the other guys make it purposely difficult so that they can sell golf lessons and force you to keep coming back while paying them each and every time And, please forgive me for referring to you as the "crazy hippie" LOL. So what's next? Keep them coming dude! I took up golf late but am naturally gifted as an athlete (humble too right?) and will learn to play good golf and you're gonna help me-right? I can't wait to wake up tomorrow and get after it again. If you can find the time would you please email me directly just to confirm that you actually read these posts and are not like the other guys stringing me out just to suck money from me. Really appreciate you man, thanks again!
I come back to this constantly and it helps every time. I'm finally ridding those bad habits from before. I'm a persistent man, and love this game to death. I'm gonna win some tourneys once this covid lifts, I can't wait to share it with you man. I know it'll make ya proud! I'm finally switching to medium sized grips too, I tend to be too firm with the grip on standard, so that'll make a big difference. Hope to eventually meet you in person one day and golf 18. That is the dream brother! -Johnny MN
I played golf as a young man but gave it up for 40 years due to work and family I moved to Lanzarote when I retired and my wife bought me a second hand golf clubs and I became a member of Costa Teguise golf course where Seve played I want to thank you so much for your instructions iam playing at 65 years of age the best golf of my life as a kid I played in the Scotish boys competition but iam driving much straighter and even as longer but my iron play is so accurate, you are a truly gifted teacher Thank you
That's fantastic, David!! I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you!! Thanks so much for sharing your improvement, keep it crispy, and have fun out there!! Tom
Been golfing for a year now and I finally picked up The Ben Hogan’s Five lesson Book. You are hitting lesson verbatim here. Love the way you break it down scientifically. U da man!👍🏽
I took several months of lessons at a well known company. It was so ridiculously technical, it didn’t help me at all. I saw this video, took it to the range. Watched again and range two more times. I’m a 10.0 handicap right now and have not hit the ball this solidly in 10 yrs. You’re right it was so much before about turning this or that and when. Now, I don’t even think about my hands and just swing with power to a nice draw again.
THANK YOU! I've been waiting for years for someone like you to come along. Everything in golf is such a money grab, not this guy! Everything I need to know (for a weekend warrior) in a 13 and a half minute video! You rock bro keep up the good work!
Hi Tom, recently been watching Shell's world of golf series. Amazing watching Boros, Littler, Nelson, Palmer, etc swinging doing exactly what you are teaching. You are doing exactly what Mike Austin advocated with hip movement. Turning has always caused me to come over the top. Going out this Saturday to work on this swing. Thanks!
He’s absolutely right about turning too soon in the downswing, everyone says rotate, rotate, rotate..well when I focused on rotating I always spin out of the shot. Thank you so much can’t wait to try this!
First time anyone has EASILY and UNDERSTANDABLY explained the transition from takeaway to the top of the back swing. Thanks for this, my wrists were all over the place and 'releasing' lol
I've been back and forth on SO MANY ****ING CHANNELS. I did this in my living room and instantly felt control. Went out to the course, and never missed a shot. I had to redo my alignment, but it was spot on and easy to judge the distance. Thank you, thank you, thank you. For being simple and to the point. You're a great dude for giving it to us straight. Consider me subbed m8. -Johnny MN
Great Video! Very informative & makes good sense. Can't wait for the next one! You touched on one of my biggest issues which is hips rotating in the beginning of the downswing. Causes massive pull hooks.
I do tend to get my hands above my shoulder plane and your suggestion to fold the right elbow definitely helps. Also using your left leg to stabalize has been a key for me. Mike Malaska taught me that. When I try to rotate my hips I usually just move hips toward target, get steeper on down swing and early extend. When I stabilize my left leg, I rotate naturally and generate more speed and consistent strikes.
For me it hits home when he said the turning is what F'ked up everybody swing. I keep turning my hip and not getting good results after hours of watching golfers on TV. Thank you Tom. FYI, i signed up for his 10 bucks a month teaching course. It's the least i can do.
Thanks! I appreciate that, and I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you!! By the way, if you do get the itch to watch anything else, here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ 😎 Tom
Mr. Saguto, not only are your videos entertaining, your information is spot-on. It works. My ball striking has never been better. A long time player, struggling to shoot high seventies, my experimenting days are over. We are on our way. Hogan and Skynyrd forever.
I can not believe the progress I made in one day. I had to log in and share my update with you all. After watching 3 of Tom's videos I went to the range today. I shoot 90's sometimes break 90, but most are ball drops from off the tee and 3 putts. I have been trying to self teach off many many RU-vid videos and figure out why I have never hit consistent drives or clean ball strikes on my irons. I have recorded myself and compared with Tom's simplified details, do what he says not to do! I hit 100 balls tonight with every step from the video (still trying to feel the right side dip or rib squish or whatever lol). I went from hitting 1 in 10 drives even close to straight, because I was a chopper! Straight up above my head and chopping down. Tonight I put my fill effort into breaking that habit, gluing my right bicep to my side, and I drove the ball 8 for 10 STRAIGHT. Unreal. I have 20mins of film of me just crushing it 250yds, down the middle. Yeah a few got away for sure, and I have film to see what I did wrong. Follow this guys videos! Film yourself, compare it to him. I half swing and hit 225+. Blown away. Thank you Tom!
Thank you very much Tom. I’m writing from Rome and I want to let you know that , after 14 years of golf and thousands of lessons spending useless money, you have been able to make me happy. I also watch a lot of videos ...but since seeing you the first time I have been following you, and no one else, because you’re so good at teaching and making things easy like they are supposed to be. So I want to tell you again: you are the best! Again thank you! I would love to,come over and have some private lessons from you, but with this bloody virus traveling is impossible. I wish you the best. Ciao, Michael

Makes good sense.... been working on backswing just like that but it’s the transition move with weight shift and right side bend that gets me. Need to work on that. Cheers locked down over the pond so a while before I can get to a range 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Don't know about you, but I've Been 40 years in The Desert! Lol! This guy is Like Moses to Pharaoh..."Let My People Go!" You Gotta Love this Guy! He speaks The Truth, and The Truth Will Set You Free!
This is great! I had complete hip replacement last year (right hip), and I felt it in my hip with the rotation and weight shift. I also had trouble with timing of the weight shift and keeping all the moving parts in sync, leading to early extension 😩 But this is EASY, and much easier on the body. I'm sticking with it (now, if we could only get out onto a golf course)
QUOTE They might talk about flexing the leg but theyr`e not really flexing the leg (There lies the problem of most of us amateurs). I used to play some great golf when I let that right leg straighten, why did I ever change. Tom keep putting these vids out and you will become the number one teacher on youtube because you cut through the CHAFF and EXPLAIN it as it should be EXPLAINED
Absolutely love this tom so so refreshing and seeing the swing from the back is superb gives it a 3D effect when all put together would really appreciate a response from you cheers 👍🏻👍🏻🏌️🏌️I'm from Scotland the home of golf
Thank you. I have only had the chance for a few swings in my yard but it feels great. No over the top... And with speed. Can't wait to get on the range. A more natural swing (check out Peter thomson Oz Legend from 50-70) I hope I can get back to where I started. My best golf was 20 years ago...... Before I had lessons!! I am not a robot!! I can't lift my left arm to the moon. I will let you know when I get a chance to try this new (old) swing on the course.
Thank you Tom for sharing this brilliant tip. I was struggling with my iron game but after following your instructions and an hour practicing, I'm crushing the ball and the key word," consistently"!!!!! The only time I have trouble is trying to hit it too hard. I've got to get it committed to muscle memory. You can swing easy and still send it!!!! Thanks so much. Love your videos.
That's awesome, Steve!! 💪💪 I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you!! Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Thank you Tom; just two rounds in and the improvement in my ball-striking is apparent. Just have to remember not to roll or cup my wrists ( that was my remedy for pulls and pull-hooks-the ugliest shots in golf).
Tom no joke I just drove the ball two times today over 270!!! Doing what ya taught I was driving it like 200 210 and it was so different today it’s unreal how much it works!! My scores are dropping too! Didn’t even play my best and still had a good score. The only problem I’m having is I’m still hitting it fat some on par 3s with my irons and usually they don’t go that far like I hit my 5 iron like 140 today. My clubs are pretty old like 1970s model lol I’m thinking that could be a factor idk I’m not some weak guy so idk what’s going on but man the driving is a whole different story!! Golf is so much fun now!!
So if I understand correctly, Glenn, you got your side of mashed potatoes with extra gravy but you're still waiting on that bucket of extra crispy KFC??...😆 Seriously, those are some booming drives - what a tremendous improvement!! But if you're bombing it 270 with the driver, then like you say a 140-yard 5-iron doesn't add up. Yes - If possible I would definitely suggest looking into some newer irons, and also to make sure that the clubs are properly fitted to your body type and swing. Those two factors alone could make a *tremendous* difference. Beyond that my only other recommendations would be: 1) Assuming you haven't already done so, if you'd really like to own this swing through your entire bag please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school as it is one of the best golf instruction values out there. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. 2) You can always arrange for an online lesson or a swing video analysis. These options are viewable here: app.v1sports.com/Saguto-Golf Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!! Cheers! Tom
His scip a rock lag theory was my ah ha moment,,everything else just happend naturally with it,,i swing shorter and flater now,but hit it higher, straighter ,further,,this guy gave me my 6543 irons back!
I watched that video last night and many others since and I can’t wait to get out to the range today and work on it! I don’t wanna be in the desert anymore!!
Hi Tom, Your teaching style is so so easy to understand, I used to be a 3 handicapper and all of a sudden I "lost" the short game, developed the "Yipes", no matter how many lessons I take and trust me I have tried everything under the sun, I just cannot chip. Have you done any lessons on chipping/short game etc. I am so eager to understand from you the fundamentals, which you make sound so easy to comprehend. Please do let me know where can I find your lessons on the short game if any. many many thank you's from all of us for making the game so easy to understand!!!!
Just subscribed. I foresee your channel growing. Good job. My tale of woe is the “backswing high, drop in the slot”. Been trying it for years. I just couldn’t do it. I always would backswing high and stay there looking very much like an OTT. However, I was using a free swing video analyzer on my phone and I noticed that no matter how I tried to drop in the slot, I kept my club very much on that same plane in the downswing as my backswing. Maybe a tad higher, thus the OTT and weak slice at times. Epiphany while watching one of your recent vids that seems so simple as to make me feel foolish. That epiphany is, if my swing wants to stay on the same plane,,, just STOP the high backswing. Duh. I began exaggerating the low backswing and immediately began making much more powerful impacts coming, now, much more in-to-out. The sound of the driver at impact is clearly different. I now smile to myself when I get that new sound! I am not yet consistent in the flatter backswing, i.e. keeping left arm at or below shoulders. It still feels extremely flat, although the video analyzer clearly shows it isn’t. This will take a while to build my new muscle memory and scrap my many years of a vertical back swing, but the immediate results were impressive and I will stick with it. During CV-19 lockdown, I am lucky to have a low cost sim setup in my garage. So I can hit and video. I am committed to coming out of lockdown a better golfer, or at least my impact will be better and I will enjoy a round more even if my score doesn’t plummet.
Thank you Tom for the awesome content. I’ve watched a couple of your vids and I’m going for it!! I’m sick and tired of the desert, it really sucks there. Land of Milk and Honey....here I come!!!!
looking forward to trying this properly when we can get back on the range and course, whenever that is..Using airballs on the net in the garden I can notice a big difference,Stay safe everyone
Brilliantly explained, finally I understand! The first part of swing isn't a swing it's all hip movement. Gonna try it in the wife's horse field tomorrow, (my covid workaround lol). I have been going with the arms far to early in the downswing, (should it even be called a downswing?) thanks dude
Great lesson, specially about not turning hips on downswing, that is priceless information! I do have a suggestion, it was hard to hear you after minute 10:03, can you get a bluetooth or wireless microphone for your camera?
Ok I went out just now to my course across the road with my 8 iron and hit a few to try all this, works great especially feeling the right side crunch on down swing - cannot go over the top! Ball goes straight and high. Very simple technique for my poor old 66yo bod. I just need to punch the ball... Thanks Tom
Hi Tom. Just found your golf channel a few days ago. Been watching your Skynyrd channel . I play a lot of their music and got a lot of info from your lessons. Thanks. I'm surprised you're using a lateral move into the ball. That causes a lot of stress on the low back. Most pros have little to no lateral move in their swing for that reason. I played for years with the lateral move from the late 50's until the 90's. I have 4 low back surgeries to show for it. The 'reverse C' That you end up with in the follow thru and at the finish is bad for the low back. The rest of your swing is very good and you teach very well. Look at Tiger, he has very little lateral on the driver and basically none in his irons. Thanks again for your teaching of music and golf.
I love it....So easy to follow mand practice....This move (swing) works so well for me. I am very happy that I started to change my swing. I hit now very solid, very clean, and much further using all my Ions, Rescue and my 3 Wood with the same technique but once I try the move with my Driver, I am losing it. Would be nice if you can explain the Driver move in a bit more detail. Thank you, Tom,
That’s my point. With the driver I feel constricted because the arms are so close to your body and your weight is not over your back foot which shortens the arc of the swing.
Let’s see if he come up with a better practice technique for the driver. He mentioned once that we should swing the driver in the same way as the ions but I can’t get the momentum and the release point. Yes, the right side feels restricted. Also I get less back pain. The tilting feels for me so much easier. I am pretty happy with the new setup. Also less back pain but with the driver I still struggle. Thanks for your comment.
I want to join I'm convinced you swing works I'm in the early stages of changing over. It's a bit like going back to golf school the second best thing I ever did in life, I leave it to you to figure the first thing.
No need for me to go there, Michael. Let's just focus on #2.... (I know that sounds like something from an Austin Powers movie, but so be it. 😂) I hope to see you in the school soon! Tom
All I can say is Boom, The pushing from the ground on ur down swing with the trail arm snapping straight through the ball Boon, Boom sonic Boom goes the ball, great stuff
KFC Crispy, Mashed Potatoes with Extra Gravy, Missiles, Boom! - However you want to label it, Grant, it all adds up to *F-U-N!!!* Keep up the great work!! Tom
Just had to try this with two balls the other day whilst in Covid 19 lock down. I noticed, backswing length control, no pressure on lower back, PURE STRIKE, straight powerful flight. Two balls now in a neighbours yard 😬
OMG you're in trouble man. I didn't get your comment because I read comments before watching the video. Then as I was watching I remembered some guys wife was enjoying this part of the video. I fell out of my chair! Thumbs up!
