Sure, the high contrast calls attention to it on screen. Pro move there to deal with the slug-leech *after* one’s close encounter with a gargantuan bird-eating spider.
I once staying at an all inclusive resort in mexico. I was well developed, in a city, had manicured yards and landscaping, etc. It was no more jungle like than a big hotel in miami. Yet for some reason, the back yard of the property was absolutely filled with burrows and tarantulas. Not as big as this one, but huge. I will never forget walking along in the dark with a flashlight and suddenly seeing tarantulas EVERYWHERE in the sandy/grassy yard. I've never been so horrified in my life. I didn't even want to stand near them. Freaked me out so bad. But eventually my curiously led me to mess with them a little. Turns out they all had their own little hole/burrow and most of them, it you touched them with a stick, would go into their burrow. It was really kind of cool but also I'd never want to live near such a place. There was a point where I touched one with a stick and instead of going in its burrow, it ran toward me and over my foot. I'm in no way suggesting it was attacking me or anything- it was just scared and running away. But I started screaming like a little girl-scout and ran for like 100 yards!!!! hahaha. I'm still embarassed by my over reaction but I couldn't help it! Tarantulas are scary even to me as a man. YIKES!!
How is it he only has 40k subscribers? He deserves way more... This guy does it all, underwater cave diving, handling all sorts of venomous creatures, swimming with sharks and gators. This dude is awesome!
Spiders are the only thing I have a phobia about ,I won't let big spiders like this on me , I understand we need them to keep the bugs away I still wouldn't let one crawl on me I would freak out and have a panic attack or a heart attack
@@Baseballnfj every arachnophobe knows that. Arachnophobia is irrational fear so explaining to us how irrational it is is pretty much useless as we all already know it’s irrational.
I dont think arachnophobia is irrational though, its an evolutionary fear and the reason women particularly are more prone to fear of spiders and wasps is more than likely to protect unborn children. The same could be said of fear of rodents and snakes.
Steve I love your content, I've been a fan since 2010 always love watching your videos. I also went to your book signing in the Trafford centre last year at Waterstones when you were injured, still got your book and I've read it over and over again. Such a big fan 💯💙
I have one of those a real big one bigger than this one, there called Theraphosa, but what i found really funny is that this one was trying to bite the machette, and he still tried to handle it big balls.
"I don’t know how they catch the birds. I know the Goliath F*cking Bird-Eating Spider can’t fly because if it could, it would have a different name entirely. We would call it “sir” because it would be the dominant species on the planet. None of us would leave the house unless a Goliath F*cking Flying Bird-Eating Spider said it was okay." Taken from a David Wong's book, indeed looks big
Got balls Steve. That is a big tarantula. The biggest I have is a LP and I absolutely love them. You should do a programme on the hobby of tarantula keeping .
He probably expected it to do something like that though, it's a hidden fact that these creatures have an abnormally high IQ level and dincey he knows his stuff he knew it was most probably going to do that
my t. blondi has never gone to bite me, but having seen a friend's bite him i would not have the nerve to handle a wild goliath like this. hats off to you lol
Steve Irwin: Handling goliath on bark Steve Backshall: Handling Goliath with bare hands I'm not throwing shade at Irwin, both guys are legends. Irwin probably didn't want kids thinking picking up any Spider is a good idea.
That’s only a small one.. you should have seen the size of the ones Steve enticed out of the burrows.. they were MASSIVE !! Easily cover a dinner plate !!!
Never have I ever seen a man with balls the size of basketballs before. Going to the spider's den and picking up beast spiders while admiring their beauty without a hint of fear? Well played, very well played. My tip of the hat to you
i really dislike those channels that kidnap bugs of various species and force them to fight to the death in an unescapable enclosure. studying them in their natural habitat is the only ethical means of studying them. if i found a spider that big in my home i'd be too afraid to try to kill it or try to relocate it outside. i think i'd just move.
its so interesting that spiders will go from attack mode to defense mode but waiting for you to something that might harm them to, meh whatever. spiders have so much personality im honestly wanting some
@Steve Backshall Am I the only one who looks at these as a biological Hydraulic crawling machine? Which is kind of true, because their blood systems act sort of like a hydraulic crane-arm joint, considering this species is a mygalomorphae, they are primitive and evolved far-less, meaning they have an ill-temper. And they are bulkier and more aggressive-looking than a modern jumping spider or a wolf-spider. Its impossible not to imagine one in the terminator.
oh damn I watched deadly 60 as a kid years ago, I never knew you had a youtube channel until now edit: he's so focused he didnt bother about the leech on his arm
That’s a Blondie Goliath bird eater. Nice find! She starts kicking hairs tho, you’re going to hate life. I have a Burgundy Goliath bird eater and they have the most irritating hairs out of all the tarantula species.
……. Letting her bite the machete could have ruined her fangs. For someone who is so knowledgeable in nature, that was mean. And handling her like that off the ground is so dangerous for her 😞 they do not like the feeling of walking on human skin
I happened to watch this soon after hearing a comedian talk about how white people like fear lol. I appreciate you showing such care and respect for the creature though.
How does this guy not have WWWWAAAAAYYYYY more subscribers.... I mean I don't even know who he is.... I'm going to spend the day looking up this guy. 1:17 had me yelling
Are they really the biggest? The giant huntsman is a pretty massive monster and some I've seen online seem bigger than this tbh. Maybe this isn't a fully matured adult yet but look up not huntsman but the giant huntsman species and you'll be mind blown at these monsters
