Great video! One good thing not mentioned. I have kids and don’t start any jobs until 9:30-10am so I get every morning with them. Also as I don’t need to wake up early if my kids are be difficult at night, all good as I don’t need to wake up at 5am. Other positive. I am now doing driveways only as they are highly profitable (but low volume). I make $750-$1000k per day but only work 1-2 days per week. I only have one machine. It’s super low stress doing driveways, easy to bid and customers are always happy to get a crappy driveway fixed. Jobs are always fixed cost and I average $150-$200/hr.
I’m a foreman/superintendent but I love your message the reason I was watching your video is because I want to jump in and do my own thing also now and I’m 60 years old 44 years in underground and grading paving. Your message was awesome. you help me a little bit, so good job buddy keep rocking on I do have a crew that will follow me anywhere not that I’m gonna do it but we’ll see
It's hard to deal with people amigo, I started to work on construction when I have 14 years old, basically all my life, like your videos, keep going!!!
Thx for doing this video, my son is getting into this and I’ve been trying to figure out how to pass all this information on to him from other people that do this better than I can, Ty, I’m gonna have him watch this to relay all this information better, ty
Just realized you have the same initials. J&M. And I do agree with a lot of what you said in your video. Mentally we get tired more than physically. And we can't grieve up. It lands on us. And if you don't have a solution. We go from making money to losing money.
Really love the energy and message man, you got a sub fr. I'm 19, just got a an abused john deere 7775, and a beat up cummins, however I'd really like to hop in this business, working as a snow plow right now with my class a saving up to get my gear and business right! Any tips like ways to advertise, finacial expectations in real world finances and situation would provide valuable insight any and everything is appreciated, looking forward to more vids!
Great video, very informative! If I missed this I apologize but I'm wondering how you get your jobs? How do customers find you? Do you advertise on social media, yard signs, t-shirts, caps, radio etc.? What marketing technique do you find that works best for you?
I also was military, after having mostly bad leaders I want to be my own Boss as well. Right now I am using my Post 9/11 GI Bill for school and after school I plan on doing what you guys are doing plus Forestry Mulching. Love the videos guys!
I judt found your channel i loved this video. I'm a crane operator in the SF Bay area at a new renewable energy project on nightshift. I'm bringing home bank right now and I'm looking for a mini excavator to buy for small jobs during the day( i know sounds crazy to have 2 jobs but I'm able to sleep in my crane sometimes. I figure I'll buy a mini excavator now while I have the funds. I'm definately going to watch your videos. You and your wife sound like great people.
On top of overhead don't forget taxes. Being self employed means you need to report your earnings and pay taxes. No one's going to do that for you unless you pay for an accountant. Sure cash jobs are king but you still need to report.
Great video man. Right now I've started renting my machines out as well because I can't find anyone to help reliably so I'm only able to take jobs I can do on my own. I'm not sure why nobody wants to work, I don't think the gov't programs pay that much but apparently it's enough to show up to work for a month and then never hear from them again. I'm way paying a guy fresh out of equipment school $40 an hour and he'd show up an hour late, some days just not at all and then just disappeared completely. I know he can't make that anywhere else around here with no experience but just didn't want to do anything. I thought I was good to work for, I don't think I ever got mad at him, I told him he was doing a great job on his actual work output and I bought lunch every day. I just don't get it. But now a machine makes me 200 a day instead of 1000, but better than sitting around I guess. 🤷
Hello My name is vivek.i saw the entire video.can I get a job offer from you.i have more than 5 years experience in a mini excavator operator and also know the mechanical part. I have an open work permit.Trust me i am an asset for your company
All this info is really great it’s ALL true oh and about the overhead you also always gotta buy gas for your machines bruh 😭 we gotta get electric machines😂
James I hear you about nobody wants to work. My dad is a General contractor in north county, and he tells me how even day labor is hard to find. they want $20 an hour for unskilled work. What has this world come to?
The no work ethic is not just a SoCa thing, same epidemic is happening in NW Oklahoma. Nobody wants to work, I guess they are making to much money sucking the gov't tit. Nice to see you and Gabriel making hands day in and day out, and Mo I know she works hard... And I understand the being the boss at the end of the day it all rolls down hill and guess who has to be there to catch it. You and Me. I once had a BIL and SIL say but you are your own boss you can take off when you want. haha We have to be there when nobody else shows up. Because at the end of the day well....see above...So where are you all going on vacation...is it a secret... well deserved and enjoy!
Good stuff! Wisconsin dells about a 2 hour drive from Chicago! We used to go all the time and haven’t been there since leave right out of boot camp so I’m excited to relax for a few days! 😎👊👊
