Golden Freddy is some otherworldly monstrosity, perhaps a poltergeist or other spiritual thing from beyond that grants murdered children power to avenge themselves. Perhaps it's just his fears given sentience, and helped him place his soul into the marionette, and taught him how to place the children's souls into the animatronics. That way he can get some semblance of justice against his brother and friends for killing him , and then avenging his brothers own murder along with his other friends. They didn't mean to kill him, but it happened anyhow and they paid the price. They were only in the animatronics until the 90's when FNaF 1 and the flashback from FNaF 3 happened. Springtrap suffered worse by being in the suit and stuck in a back room for 30 + years. I always figured Golden Freddy was some sort of fear monster. The actual golden Freddy suit was very likely confiscated by police and destroyed..
