ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE
From Michael Schur, executive producer of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Parks and Recreation," comes a smart, unique new comedy that follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, "House of Lies," "Veronica Mars"), an ordinary woman who, through an extraordinary string of events, enters the afterlife where she comes to realize that she hasn't been a very good person. @@ruthruthie2931 Everyone is called in asense, via the conscience. Everybody who hears God's Word is called. Not everyone who hears God's Word and is chosen by God to listen. A better way to say it is that all Christians go to heaven, but not everybody who thinks they are a Christian actually are a Christian. Please excuse the plural-singular mixups.

@mk17173n All behavior is good or bad. All humans sin, all humans deserve Hell. God saves those he chooses and justly punishes those he does not. Heaven and Hell are the perfect reward system.

no. they just don't care. also- if the good place made the mistake- the chance for the substitude to ruin a neightbourhood or shame etc- is big- therefor the result of ruin the good place. Also- more good place people in the bad place- better for them. They stayed quiet about the other one.

This was the moment that I realized they were actually in the bad place watching the show, because it did not make sense on why they brought out the "real Eleanor" at the last minute. Then, everything else that went "wrong" before that began to click (such as how Jason was also not supposed to be there too, how they were never truly able to enjoy anything because there was always something preventing them from doing it and how Eleanor's house was, not only meant for someone else, but also, filled with everything that was annoying for anybody to live in) and I told roommate, "They're in the bad place and this whole thing is a lie!" In the later episode reveal, my roommate was shocked and laughed at the same time saying, "Wow! You called it." haha

Or, the Bad Place wasn't planning to exchange the Eleanors and release the "real" one, because... You know, they are bad and they like torturing people. Taking the "real" Eleanor with them could just have been another way of torturing her: "Look, that's the Good Place, get your hopes up to stay here. But actually, no, we are taking you back again!"

Actually no, because the train starts off at room temperature (likely), and then the temperatures increase the more you think about how hot it is, butttt... the clam chowder can’t actually think. Therefore it stays at room temperature

I love how they were just going to take off with the good Eleanor. Even though most of the stuff the bad place crew did while in the good place was what one might expect from a comedy show, the fact that they were going to leave with the good Eleanor, essentially teasing her with the good place unless they needed to use her to keep the bad Eleanor was pretty fucking diabolical. It was even kind of funny. Also, commenter mk17173n hit the nail on the head on why this show is such a great concept. Eleanor's want for a middle ground makes sense. Why she have to suffer for eternity because she was a sucky person? She wasn't a serial killing baby rapist, so just making a good place and a bad place is far too simplistic. It seems that the point of the show is to make fun of that lack of a much needed complexity.

So every religious person goes to the bad place, because they are only got because the expect reward in the afterlife. their motivation is corrupt. Whereas atheists who are good without expecting and afterlife reward would all end up in the Good Place. :P

Lyca31 It's not as simple as that. You not only have to be good -- you have to be the Best of the Good. The Good Place has a lot of arbitrary but stringent rules about what is good or bad, and while you may gain points for starting charities or raising money for them, all your other actions and behaviours count too, hence why Tahani, who raised Millions for charities and inspired many, many people, went to the Bad Place -- she did good, but all to compete with her sister and prove to her parents that she was good enough. She was expecting a selfish reward and there was no pure intent. Ricky Gervais may be an atheist who does charity work, but he's also a patronising dillweed. Besides, Christians may be motivated by personal reward, but many religions aren't like that. For example, Judaism teaches that you must do good for good's sake -- there's no hell and no certainty on heaven, so there's no personal reward to be expected. I know you feel like you should think of religions as bad, but 'all religions' are not Christianity.

Fair enough. I was just kind of making a joke without thinking too deeply... I'm an Atheist, I don't believe in any sort of afterlife, but I try to do the right thing because, well it's the right thing. I'm confused why Tahani ended up in the fake Bad Place while Mindy managed to get in the Medium Place. Also the rules don't seem to take personal circumstances into account. Eleanor had no good role models and Tahani was pretty much emotionally abused by her parents. Chidi seems to have an anxiety disorder and Jason has learning issues. None are really bad people. That said. I love this show for what it is and I'm looking forward to season three.

Guys, the point of it was to torture everyone. Chidi was torn the whole time about Eleanor going to the bad place, but just look at how forceful he is with Michael! Michael's even taken aback by how sure he is that Eleanor deserves to stay. But they can't have him being sure of anything. That isn't his torture. So they come back with plan B, which is, bring on a new moral dilemma to torture Chidi with: should they keep Eleanor (who doesn't belong there) just because they like her and she's improving - and leave a real innocent person suffering? Or they make the switch and keep the Real Eleanor and let Eleanor go?

So why did Michael even call Trevor? He said he’s the most diabolical demon there is. Since I binged the entire series I might need to rewatch it, slower, but was Trevor actually playing a role here? They both answer to Sean so Trevor would love to have Michael fail. Why didn’t he call a different demon? I’m sure I’m overthinking it but I think I just confused myself now.

If she was on the train why didn't she come off when you first arrived. That part never made sense to me even if it is just Vicky playing a role, "fake" Eleanor and the gang didn't know that, so the Eleanor reveal was done bass ackwards
