I talk about an all time classic film, something that has permanently changed the path of the Western genre. And continues to change the landscape of media to this very day. It's also one of my mom's favorite movies, and it's her birthday. So two birds, one stone.
Music Used:
Ecstasy of Gold (Bandini Remix)- Ennio Morricone
The Shootist- Red Dead Redemption OST
The Outlaw's Return- Red Dead Redemption OST
Born Unto Trouble- Red Dead Redemption OST
Muertos Rojos- Red Dead Redemption OST
Compass- Jamie Lidell

As Loli states in the video, spaghetti westerns were considered trashy cinema at the time, cheap imitations of the real thing, in the same vein as the millions of Star Wars clones from foreign countries. Sergio Leone just managed to be talented enough a filmmaker to lift an entire genre into relevance. It's actually amazing that TGTBATU got such glowing reviews when it was released, bearing that in mind. Roger Ebert gave it a 3.5/4 stars, and admitted decades later that it should've been an easy 4 stars, if not for the stigma against spaghetti westerns at the time.

My cherish and most favorite western style movie that I always watch multiple times when I was an child with my beloved grandpa until now as an adult. In fact as a side note - an western themed JRPG game called "Wild Arms" and it's composer Michiko Naruke stated that this movie and it's legendary OST created by Ennio Morricone is one of it's main inspirations for the game's soundtrack which the certain feel and tone of it remains. I just wanted to say TY for the review since it'll forever gonna be my happiest moments when my beloved grandpa was alive and where just arguing at each other because I'm too loud and excited for some reason 🤣😢 but at its stands this is my true masterpiece and I'll gonna tell this one to my grandchildren when I'm got old enough. Godspeed

Problem I have with the movie, is that I was raised on John Wayne and other more upbeat heroic westerns. So when I try to watch something like this, it just does not click with me. Like it is a Western, but not what I am used to, so just lose interest. That being said, I can think of how this film influenced Eastwood's career. The man made two additional movies with a similar plot: "Where Eagle's Dare" and "Kelly's Heroes."

I'll write this before I watch the video. This was the first Western I had ever seen as a kid. now in a lot of other genres I'd face a lot of disappointment after watching arguably the best one of the genre first, but luckily I was born in the '90s, almost every Great Western was made by the time I was 10. and boy what a genre it is. there may be some wiggle room and argument as to if this is truly the best Western. but there's no argument that this movie is the quintessential western. The music, the look, the sounds, the way it was shot, the characters. The cliches and the references all start here. you play ecstasy of Gold for any person on the street, whether they've seen this movie or not, hell whether they've seen a western or not. they know it's a cowboy movie. this film will always remain right at the tippy top of my favorite films. Theres no question when it comes to Sergio Leone being the best Western director and the man Ennio Morricone is just as monumental if not more. simply put, even if you don't like westerns, this is one movie you should see before you die

Thanks for the review, anything about the good, the bad and the ugly is always a pleasure to see. My dad told me to watch the movie when it was aired on TV, that I will like it. I was around 10 and did not like Western at all (the classics you show are a perfect example why, I can appreciate those now but at the time they felt old, artificial, overplayed and quite ridiculous to the 10yo star wars fan I was at the time). I reluctantly watched, telling westerns sucks and will go sleep soon...The intro alone had me hooked and even if I played a little blasé, my dad saw I was hooked and smiled. I watched till the end even if it was too late and next day was schoolday... even my mom telling it was getting late and I should be sleeping was not really insistent, they saw it was not worth the drama to try to send me to bed 🤣🤣🤣 Still my favorite western till now, there are many other good ones, the other 2 from the trilogy for example, but this one is just on a level of his own. And Clint is Blondin, it's the role of his life (regardless of his other great roles), i have his face in mind when reading King's pistolero (so did King when writing it, apparently 😉)

I have returned from watching this movie proper. You are absolutely right. Words can never do justice to something like this, it is an experience you have to witness for yourself. Sure one can break down the scenes, the long takes and whatever. It is something everyone really should witness at least once in their life. Sure it gets referenced all the time in various types of media where thankfully it didn't get diluted or adopted by anyone else. Much like the gold found at the end, the greed between all three individual men kept me in deep with the film. Especially the music and just how beautiful it is at times while the sheer impact of the cannon fire shook me at times. But the one big moment that stuck with me was when Blondie wrote the gold's location under a rock and placed it in the middle. The twist caught me completely off guard as did the location. They don't make them like this anymore and I doubt there's anyone left that can.
