The design on these have been changed. The fiber optic sight is gone and is now a full length gutter sight. Cylinder line up is perfect with the bore. The cylinder pin doesn't come loose. The trigger pull isn't heavy and is very smooth. On the right side of the gun it now says 22 MULTI and the cylinder is roll marked 22 MAG. Just thought everyone should know about the changes in this awesome little revolver. I have put over 100 rounds through mine without a single problem. Way to go Standard Manufacturing for addressing the issues.....the Switch Gun gets an A+ from me !!!
@@ACommenterOnRU-vid Multi....meaning it will fire 22lr and 22 mag. with a cylinder swap....just like on some of the NAA mini revolvers. 22lr. Cylinders are available on their website for $65.
I’ve been searching for a handgun for deeper carry. The Switch-Gun seemed to be a viable weapon for me. Despite months of deciding to spend the exorbitant price for this .22 magnum pistol, I finally took the plunge and purchased the Switch-Gun. Pros: Very compact and extremely light. Easily hidden until you need it. The .22 mag round is very deadly if you need it in a life or death situation. It’s a fun weapon to shoot! Despite not having sights, simply pointing the weapon was accurate for me. My first round was wide left, but after that, all my rounds were pretty much center mass. This little pistol packs a punch. Cons: To deploy the Switch-Pistol, the release button must be pushed down. This goes against the natural inclination or “muscle memory” to push the switch up to open the gun like one would a switchblade knife. In a stressful situation this could be deadly. In an effort to get familiar with the weapon, I practiced opening, cocking, decocking, and closing the weapon numerous times. Less than 24 hours of having this gun, it would no longer cock. I sent it back for “repairs”. I believe the cylinder was stripped due to cocking or decocking because the pistol had a “new” cylinder when returned from repair a week or so later. After firing it at the range, I continued to cock and decock the weapon. And sometimes the cylinder “hesitates” a little to turn. Keeping my eye on that. As I continued to practice (no dry firing), opening and closing the weapon, I had yet another mechanical issue. The “screw” connecting the polymer grip to the steel pistol, began to become loose. I constantly had to retighten the screw to keep it from coming out. Loctite may fixed the issue. In life or death situation a product needs to function. As a police officer, carrying the Switch-Gun as an off duty backup to my “primary backup”, would not have gone well for me if these function issues occurred in the field. For the almost $500.00 paid for the my Switch-Gun, it’s way overpriced for a poorly made (poor quality and durability) weapon. My hope is that Standard Manufacturing will make modifications to this extraordinary concept by making the Switch-Gun a viable defense weapon. For now, I am not totally confident with this weapon. Until I do, it’s just an expensive paperweight. For that, I give Three stars Michael Yates
Michael, I really wanted to like this pistol. It has a lot unique features I really like. I ended up getting retiring mine and pulled my old NAA 22mag revolver back out for deep concealment. Thanks for watching!
@@RobbieWheaton Same here, Robbie. Just too many safety issues. I purchased a NAA .22 Mag Ported Pug a few days ago. So we on the same page. Lol Thanks for your video. Mike
@@RobbieWheaton Would you do an update? I got this gun for Christmas, came in RU-vid to learn about it and look for issues -Mine doesn't say 22 MAG on the side, it says 22 multi. -I checked the barrel vs the cylinder and all looks lined up -i don't have the fiber optic sight (removed??) Looks like a decent EDC AND smaller than my 0.38 Ruger LCP II. BUT I'm concerned about hammer travel in my pocket, is it enough when folded to fire a round??
@@95gsrturbo Per the website the hammer cannot be fully cocked back to fire a round in the folded position. Manual also says not to fold the gun if the hammer is cocked
Dude, it’s not for competition, you say you can’t recommend a gun that is supposed to be used only in dangerous circumstances??? Come on!!! The gun does the job, and, with all due respect to your expertise man. Perhaps your wishing list is too long for a self defense “Switch Gun”.
Well guess what, they must have seen your video-I got one this week with none of those problems, they eremoved the fiber optic sight, the trigger pull is light, the rod doesn't become unscrewed, the cylinders are aligned, lockup is rock solid-its actually what I would expect at this price point..Anybody out there considering this, just make sure you get the second generation. You can tell because it doesn't have the fiber optic sight
Hey y’all just wanted to throw out there I have the new one of these and they have fixed all of the uglys bore and cylinder line up great the got rid on the fiber optic for a full trench sight and the trigger pull is smooth and light I highly suggest this thing for a good belly gun I carry it everywhere
I was really thinking of purchasing one of these pistols. I knew about the sight issue from reading other reviews. Since The reason for use was up close self protection the sights are not on issue. The hard trigger pull isn't an issue for me, but my wife may have a problem. My real issue is the cylinder alignment. That in and of itself is a quality issue. Your review on this weapon is excellent! No other review came close to your observations. I immediately subscribed, gave a thumbs up and rang the bell. THANKS
Did you experience any issues with the cylinder locking up? I was playing with one at a LGS and the cylinder locked up. Had to remove the cylinder, pull the hammer back a couple time, reassemble to get it to cycle. I also was not able to get the hammer into the safety slots. I have a couple NAA revolvers and have never experienced these issues. Obviously I passed on the purchase. Thanks for the great review.
They appear to have changed the design. I just bought one fresh from the factory, and it has a different cylinder than the one shown in this video. Not sure if it was to fix the timing issue or what, but definitely not the same cylinder as shown.
Dunno who approved the sticker. My first thought was "Sexually Transmitted Disease" Gun. I don't think I would want that on my car or truck when I am hoping to meet a new lady.
Hey Robbie, I really enjoy your videos I love how you give it a real technical perspective as a master gunsmith. You said you were going to do a video illustrating how to fix this controversy regarding the trigger on the CSX, have you already done so? Thanks from a big fan!
What about an American Arms Mini Revolver? They used to make them to clip into a “display belt buckle”. I bought the folding grip with pocket clip that folds up just like this Switch Gun. Mine is the short barrel and does not stick out beyond the folded grip. It is accurate with “cowboy” style sights and what’s more, if it ever breaks, they fix it for free! I bought an extra cylinder so I can keep it loaded and ready to simply switch out after the first five rounds are gone. At the range, people did not believe how well it hit. Mine’s 30 years old and never an issue with it. I keep it in my front pocket and “flick my wrist” to open it with a snap. It acts like the Switch Gun for only $300 and needs no spring to snap it open. Bad part? You’d have to actually shoot the mugger with it because he would not believe this tiny work of art was real! Other bad part? It clips so comfortably in your jeans pocket that you can FORGET it’s in there and might wear your gun to work accidentally. Check out an American Arms Mini Revolver. They must have a dozen variations.
I can get by the front site, but not all the other negatives that I have read and seen regarding this gun, especially considering the price of upwards of 500 bucks. By the way, your review crushed all the others I've seen regarding this gun. Nice work
Looks like another cool idea from Standard Manufacturing with a myriad of problems just like their Thunderstruck S333. I was an unlucky recipient of one of those.
Great honest review. I admit I kind of wanted one of these vut I will just stick with my NAA it would be greatvif the NAA had a fiber optic front site but if you add a bit of nail polish to the metal sites on the NAA it works pretty good.
Damn, need to show this to the local gun makers in Peshawar KPK Pakistan...they should be able to replicate this bad boy :)...what a beautiful piece, would love to have it in my collection.
Great vid man, thanks for the helpful info. Sadly, another gun not made for my needs (southpaw) because the unlocking latch. Guess my search continues for a pocket sized micro pistol.
I seriously DOUBT that anyone is going to need or rely on that front site when this revolver is only good for 30 ft at best. If you cant hit a person from 30 ft with this, you dont need a gun.
Robbie love the vid. Ive been debating on getting this or the trailblazer lifecard .22wmr. Can you please do a review on that and give your opinion. Thanks for the video!
Adrian, here is a link for a video I did last year about the Lifecard, Beretta 21A & the Ideal Conceal IC380. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tAUl2MQSVf8.html
Robbie, Enjoy your expertise and commentary, however, one suggestion. Your work area choice for recording your videos lends itself to echos which are counterproductive to quality. A dedicated area with some sound proofing foam or other sound absorbent material would be great. I especially enjoy the videos with you and Sootch, or Sensible Preppers, Just don't understand where you find the Time!
Yea that's not a gun for long shots and sights prolly aren't even needed but why they put it on there who knows possibly to charge you more. Cutting lead is a real prob and it's got a trigger like a Cobra Derringer. I only carry mine when I have to like when going to a funeral or something.
For everyone that thinks this is cool, its a very cheaply produced firearm. Not a reputable company at all. Fun for a little while until you have issues and the manufacturer leaves you hanging.
