If you really want to be blown away, understand that these professional musicians typically get their sheet music on Monday after their weekend concert. They're expected to have it down by Wednesday, have perhaps two rehearsals and then are expected to play a two hour concert of incredibly complex and difficult music on Friday through Sunday. The next week a whole different two-hour symphony. I love my rock music, but what a professional orchestra accomplishes is truly unreal.
I actually think the conductor has a more stressful work ahead of her. She has to sit down, figure out how she wants to mix these two songs together into one. It's also up to her, where and how in the piece, she wants emphasis (is that the right wording?) etc. in the song. She might also make some parts longer or shorter, and then write the frigging nodes down for ALL the orchestra and choir. But she seemed extremely happy with the result. At 14:41 she almost looks like she's having an orgasm.
Ennio Morricone was such a freaking genius. RIP master... even though the western movies were pretty great, his music elevated the movies by several orders of magnitude. Just as John Williams' soundtrack elevated Star Wars etc.
Tuva Semmimgsen (the wah-wah lady) is an incredibly talented mezzo-soprano, and she is absolutely doing that sound with just her voice. She's done singing for a lot of these concerts. Of particular note is her performance of "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen, as part of "Fantasymphony", the fantasy themed concert they did in... 2017, I think? As for the orchestra, there are probably around 130 people playing instruments and using vocals just on this piece. The orchestra itself counts just over 100 musicians. The flute-like instrument you couldn't identify is an ocarina. The other instrument you speculated was a clarinet is actually, I think, a cor anglais, or English horn, which is a type of oboe. The guitarists are just two musicians from the string section. Most orchestra musicians know other instruments similar to the ones they usually play in the orchestra. Instruments like recorders, electric guitars/basses, pianos, drum kits, ocarinas, etc. are not typically part of a symphony orchestra, but naturally, these special themed concerts are usually not classical music.
There's an instrument on top of the waa waa song. Harmonika or trumpet, it's hard to hear. And they are 106 people in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
Thank you for the Ocarina ID… and for the word up for Tuva ( tho Christine the sopranos is also incredible) I’m gonna check out your top for who wants to live forever. Peace and love ☮️
DR also have a Big Band, so I think they borrow from each other, once in a while. I have seen the Big Band together with the Symphony Orchestra. Can't remember what it was, though.
Just in case anyone is wondering: The reason that Christine Nonbo, the soprano, is introduced and Tuva Semmingsen, the mezzosoprano, the lady in red with the revolver ear ring, is not, is that this is a part of a larger concert. Semmingsen was introduced earlier, while this is Nonbo's first appearance.
i compliment your knowledge, wow!! For a young person to know so much about the movie and the music? wow......kudos. awesome reaction and i cant wait....to watch other ones. thank you.
Another great Ennio Morricone scores: Cinema Paradiso, Once Upon a Time in America, Malena, Abolisson... Pure gold!! I'm always up for Ennio Morricone and Danish Orchestra. It's all good, thank you!!
I've watched reactions to this by several people but really enjoyed your attention to the musical instruments AND your description of what was happening in the movie during the music performed. BTW it was an oboe. No one else has done this. You make me want to watch the movie again after many many years.
What an absolute masterpiece! I had, at different stages during the performance, goosebumps, chills, hairs up on the back of my neck… amazing. And watching it with you guys, with your enthusiasm, knowledge, etc etc, makes it all much better still!! 👍🍻🇬🇧🇺🇸
Yea some people said we were talking to much but we were just so blown away and commented on everything! lol It's an amazing performance and masterpiece song.
The Uncommon Orchestra Instruments: 4:34 Recorder - just like the recorder elementary school kids have to get in music class (USA). 4:37 Tuva Semmingsen's Voice (with shadowing by a harmonica player) - I think a lot of reaction videos think she's making the harmonica sound with her voice, but it's a separate musician. 4:55 Ocarina - Gamers might recognize this instrument from the classic game, "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". This one in the video doesn't have time manipulation properties, though. 😄 8:38 Whip or Slapstick - Used by orchestras to simulate the sound of a whip cracking. 10:16 The harmonica player shadowing Tuva. 10:43 (NOT an uncommon orchestra instrument) Oboe - Its deeper-voiced relative is the Bassoon
10:43 I believe it's an English horn rather than an oboe. The English horn is in the oboe family of instruments, but approx. 1½ times the length of an oboe. Unlike an oboe and English horn has a bocal (the curved part between the reed and the body) like you can see in this video. This is to make it more comfortable to hold and easier to reach the keys on this long instrument. An oboe doesn't have a bocal like seen in this video. And oboe d'amore also has a bocal like and English horn and the oboe d'amore is in between the oboe and English horn in the oboe family.
Tuva Semmingsen, who did the whistling, can be seen singing in their version of 'Who Wants to Live Forever'. She's got a great voice. She doesn't just whistle.
The lady in the green gown is Sarah Hicks. She is the CONDUCTOR. The instrument that is similar to the clarinet is the OBOE. The genius behind this music is the COMPOSER, Ennio Morricone.
Maybe semantics to some, but I am pretty sure, that is an english horn/cor angais, but I mean it is pretty much the big brother of the oboe, so still sam family :)
Have watched 7 or 8 reaction videos to this one tonight... all have been black africans 😀😀 And none of them have been whining about how whites stole everything from africa, or cultural appropriation, or the lack of diversity in the orchestra. None of them 👍👍👍
@@peterrevens8454 Well maybe that's because none of that was really relevant to the music to which they are reacting and thus would be better discussed another time. Or do you expect black people to be nothing but an overflowing, cartoonish amalgamation of political beliefs and historical perspectives you happen to disagree with?
This orchestra also does a killer rendition of "For a few dollars more". Also check out the Qatar Philharmonic Brass do the theme from the old Peter Gunn TV show. Epic tuba playing!!!
Jeff - We have that reaction recorded and will be adding that soon. We also just uploaded - Once Upon a Time in the West - The Danish National Symphony Orchestra Reaction
The first "flute-like" instrument played is called a "recorder." The same guy played his second solo with an ocarina. In both instances, the "wah wah" singer (Tula Severingsen) wah-wahed and whistled her parts in conjunction with a harmonica. When they went into the "Ecstasy of Gold" part of the arrangement, the pianist's arpeggios were followed by oboe solos. The oboe solo was followed by the incredibly beautiful vocal solo by soprano, Christine Nonbo Andersen. To me, this was even better than the original film score.
Thanks DDS. We try not to watch other reactors so we can be fresh and authentic with our reactions. so many channels imitate each other to the point of just being the same. You never know what might pop up on our channel from Boxing reactions to the Symphony! Thanks for subscribing!
I'm not a huge fan of westerns, but if you haven't seen the movie, do yourself a favor and watch it immediately!! And I've never met one person on Earth who doesn't like this theme!!
I've listened to a lot of Morricone's soundtracks .. this is the best rendition out there . 100% . If you want to hear another killer of his , lookup 'nuovo cinema paradiso' its an Italian drama movie and the sound track is Epic. FYI , 'The mission' is another of his. 'Once upon a time in America' not to mention the other Western classic 'Once upon a time in the west '
So much to say about this. Creative to have the singers in the stands and the dualing soprano lady vs. wah wah lady facing each other from different ends of the auditorium. Loved the camera crew zooming in and out of all the musicians and singers. This is my interpretation of their performance: - Stimulating to the eyes, ears, heart and soul - Beginning drum beat sounds like an American Indian Tribal beat - The men vocals sounds like an American Indian language - The background women's voices and the strings represents the air and the wind - The Wah Wah Lady represents The Time and Spirit of the Old West - The Soprano vocalist represents The Angel of War - The rhythm is at the same tempo when horses are galloping through the land. Special thank you to the Italian composer, Ennio Morricone. I also suggest The Danish National Symphony's performance of The Godfather Suite.
Good commentary, I liked it. You were totally right about how terrifying it would be to play something solo. I've done it a few times and the fear never goes away. You just learn to live with it :) My recommendation for another live orchestral movie score would be "Conan the Barbarian - Universal Pictures Centennial Concert - Fimucité 6".
Once Upon a Time In The West score "Your Love", combo video 1968 version with Edda Dell'Orso humming it and 2015 Jackie Evancho singing it when she was 14.
At around the six-minute mark, the musical instrument the man was playing is called an ocarina. It is a musical instrument that goes back thousands of years.
6:06 its an ocarina, probably a bass ocarina, since the usual ones have a way more higher tone. the woman who does the whistling is tuva , shes doing a lot of singing in other performances.
Great reaction guys , this orchestra are just outstanding , but dont forget Danmarks Radio for their awesome film audio work , outstanding too, it was a Night with Music from these spaghetti western , Ennio Morricone’s Music are , ya speachless , Proud to have this orchestea in denmaeb🇩🇰you guys did a great reaction , so i am gonna smash that sub 👍have a Nice Day , refreshing Channel , with talk over like that , just good
pls react to Beethovens moonlight sonata, 3rd movement and you'll never say he was bad again. he created that crazy journey with just one instrument, while being almost deaf. that is genius!
great reaction ocarina and oboe i think are the instruments this version is so original omg "Once Upon A Time In The West" each Character has there own song in "Once Upon A Time in America" too Deborah´s Theme give me chills fun fact Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone were classmates, but what they realized only when they worked together - small world
Ocarina is correct (the instrument shaped like a gridiron football). The solo in "The Ecstasy of Gold" is actually played on an English horn, the oboe's big sister.
You guys Rock!! You're funny and intelligent.. best of both worlds. Keep it going!! Watch Maurice Ravel's Bolaro, the drummer, he's your key guy.. talk about precision and pressure!! Watch and see!
I loved your reactions. Your comments were enthusiastic and heartfelt. I am curious to know if there is a reason why you guys don’t react to Elvis Presley music. He had a huge range of music, over 800 songs, from Gospel music to deep profound song like “If I can dream”, to romantic music, to country music, and of course rock and roll music. There is no great singers, past and present, can sing so many different styles of songs. I think you guys will be amazed at how great Elvis Presley was as a singer.
Kenny G. plays The Sopranosaxophone. It's an English Horn the deeper Oboe. Love your enthusiasm and love for orchestral music. The wah-wah sound is unison doubled with the Harmonica Guy.
The instrument (where you were talking about the graveyard) is an oboe. It's a double-reed instrument, very difficult to play compared to single-reed instruments like the clarinet.
Fantastic score by Morricone, but his masterpiece is The Mission. Here's him directing it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s7w-IeNR9ko.html It's life changing.
Maestro Ennio Morricone , deserved an oscar for that masterpiece of music ! And guys there's no synth everywhere . Is the voice of the girl ... Is a soprano voice effect ... ! Pure voice ! The second instrument that you want to know is an English Horn , a Contralto Oboe ! Usually chorded in F or G ! Is a piece instrument of Oboe family ! Is a low woodwind family member !
Main theme from Alfred Hitchcocks Vertigo by Bernad Hermann. (The Danish national symphony orchestra again.) One of my favorite film score! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rh7ka6yO6PQ.html
Interesting - never made that connection. I thought it was about having a low budget like shoestring budget...somehow spaghetti budget. But what you commented makes sense.
...if you both like orchestral music, especially this orchestra, then you should listen to and watch "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" by and with Gary Brooker , accompanied by the Danish National Orchestra (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-St6jyEFe5WM.html) Another delight, with a modern influence, fantastic piece of music. Have fun listening!
- the instrument you are looking for is called "OKARINA" and the other one in the second part of the track is an "OBOE" This is all "handmade music" no keyboard, no sampler or anything like that...! And the Hangman is the symbol for the content of the movie. In the height above the orchestra is also the silhouette of the main actor Clint Eastwood. BE SURE TO WATCH THE FILM !!!
Also, Once upon a time in the west! Best western ever made. Great sound track, same guy. The danish orchestra has a video here for once upon a time in the west, check it out!
please react to the open air concert version of ecstasy of gold (2nd song in this video) in venice, italy. ennio arranged and conducted it himself... imho the best classical orchestra version of the song out there....awesome soloist, choir and orchestra......turn up the volume and enjoy ;-)
