As I get older I find this music more and more relevant. I've lost both my parents and said goodbye to more than a few beloved friends, the sadness in this song speaks to me more than ever. We are powerless to stop those we love from leaving us eventually, all we can do is wish them farewell as they go, and hope for the best. Cherish what time you have with those you love, treasure every second, because everything is finite. Everything has an amount attached to it. There's only so many times you can say 'hi' to a friend, "I love you" to your partner or "see you soon" to your mum and dad until they leave your life forever. Be slow to anger and quick to love and never let a dispute get in the way of a relationship. I've learned this through bitter experience, because you'll regret it if you do. 😢
Damon Albarn is definitely the greatest talent from his generation, he just has more humanity to work his than someone like Thom Yorke, who's undeniably great, but cold.
Damon is definitely much more versatile and prolific than Thom is, at least stylistically. Thom deals more in the abstract topics and themes of alienation. I love both for their own unique artistic talents.
Damon is able to touch a more mainstream audience, which is why I find him more comparable than Thom Yorke to former greats such as David Bowie. I _love_ Thom's work, but he fulfills a different role.
Holy shit does Damon know how to end an album. Why are his album closers always so stunning? After an initial listen-through I'd already say this is among his best albums ever.
@@adapah7019 Oh I see. He was definitely going for a different vibe though, making a different kind of music. It's just that our preference might be to a certain style, someone else will tell you different but I agree, this is some of his best. But at times my preference will shift to Humanz, or certain tracks. I think it's best not to compare too much, though we all have favourites hehe
Music doesn't usually make me cry, but this song touched me in such an indescribable way that I just started bawling. Damon's voice just sound so... Sincere? Broken? I don't know. Edit: I just lost a friend today and came back to this... Yep. It definitely struck me.
Albarns vocals on this track took me far away into my memories and emotions of my broken heart and failed loves and made me shed a tear here on my lonesome........and it was beautiful
During my first listens of this song, I had been experiencing my grandpas slow decent from cancer. This song will always make me think about my grandpa during those times since he passed two weeks ago.
I remember my grandpa too listening this song, specially when Damon says "I'll see you in the next life, Don't follow me", papa waits for me... but he doesn't want me to go... not right now.
Man this song has a double meaning to me right now. Lost my father a very short time ago, now my relationship is ending and this song reminds me of both just in different ways
Dang, Damon is so good at closers. He ends albums with such beautiful ballads and the band as a whole just knocked this album out of the park. So beautiful💖
If youve got dreams you keep and youre leaving me Ill see you in the next life Ill set you free To find your promised land If youre leaving me Its really sad Its really sad Because our love Is lying on a follow field Its the seed that you sowed And scattered whit the fallen shields If youve got dreams you keep Because youre leaving me Ill see you in the next life Don't follow me To the poison tree That grew up next to me Its really sad Its really sad Because our love Is lying on a follow field Its the seed that you sow And scattered whit the fallen shields Of a last crusade To safe me from myself
"If you’ve got dreams you keep and you’re leaving me I’ll see you in the next life" After Tony Allen's passing, I see this as a beautiful goodbye to him. It fits so well in that it's one of the last songs released in his lifetime that includes his drumming. The only song featuring him more recent than this that I can think of is How Far by Gorillaz.
It almost makes me smile to think of the Oasis-Blur saga back in the 90's. If you think what Damon still writes and produces today, when he's 50 years old, and what Noel Gallagher is doing instead, which is not worth a billionth of this stuff. And hey, I was a MASSIVE Oasis fan back in the days, much more than Blur.
You know I gotta say that once more I cannot be with you my dearest son, and this song simply transmits the feels going through my heart. Might be the poison tree boy!
Wow I’ve never heard Damon or many people sing like this, I don’t even know what he’s doing, it’s just brilliant. Love the bass lines and drum and the violins just tie it all up so well.
Soooo many good songs on this album. This one the truce of Twilight n merrie land are amazing songs. I just found the new album n damn it doesn't miss a beat after 11 yrs
