My 4 year old is doing the preschool and my 5 year old is doing the prek, and we’ll start the kindergarten one when he completes that. I love this curriculum and so do both of my kids! I’m really excited to start the kindergarten course with my son. He is picking it all up so quick. It makes my mama heart proud. I’m so happy to hear this is working so great for your kids. It only makes me more excited as we continue.

We weren't in the position to get a printer, so I got Level 1 printed through LuluXpress (full colour). Cost around $100 AUD inc. shipping, amazing quality! Printed the readers and boosters on card. Considering shipping alone was $200AUD alone, this was a great option for my circumstance.

Is mastering the concepts (first few pages of booster cards) more like memorizing or just being able to say the blended sound fast without too much thought? We can blend them, but first saying each sound then putting it together- instead of just blending the two first . Ex: “ar”, she sounds out like “r-a, ra” not “ra”. So we are saying each sound then blending well. Is this a form of mastering? Does this make sense?!
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse Год назад
I know what you mean. I think you need to decide it based on your child. If they're easily blending then they're likely fine to proceed, but if they're struggling at all I would keep going over them until it's not an issue.

Christine, do you also feel the writing component has improved? I’m glad to hear the spelling is better. I was always a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more writing in the previous edition. I love your channel! My kids are the exact same ages as yours and I always get such great ideas and inspiration from you! 💜
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse Год назад
Hey there! I'm actually a bit the opposite. Writing was pretty challenging for my eldest child (which was pretty developmentally appropriate). I would just supplement with other writing resources if your child is strong in this area. :)

We love TGTB and use the free downloads for math and language arts!!! I’ve watched my daughter pick up on letters thru a Tv Program so we where finding that helped my daughter pick up then we find TGTB videos helped for the blending!!! We still play the pre school games tho!!! She flew thru the course!!! We love the reading booster games!!! Level K - 8 is free for both language arts and math but math level 7 and 8 aren’t out yet!!!

I’m a huge All About Reading fan and tentatively got the new TGTB level K and Level 2 for my kids and thought maybe we’d just do a bit but I have been so impressed. The kids really enjoy it and I feel like it’s doing a great job w/ teaching reading. I think I’ll still do AAR along w/ it because I love it but don’t feel like it’s necessary. I actually have been so impressed with TGTB that I just ordered their Math to try as well.

How does this program compare to All about Reading since you have used both?
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse Год назад
I do actually have a comparison video between this and the old version. :) I should do an updated one now that you mention it! They're similar but All About Reading is strictly teaching reading whereas TGTB covers other subjects such as geography, art, grammar, literature, etc.

I would absolutely love a video or more in-depth thoughts on the comparison between the two. I'm on the fence with ordering TGATB level k or purchasing AAR leve 1.
@AppointedFeasts
@AppointedFeasts Год назад
I've been comparing TGATB with Abeka for my K daughter in the fall. There is a drastic difference in the readers by the end of each program. Do you feel like TGATB teachings the concepts more slowly... or that their readers are just shorter?
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse Год назад
Abeka is very likely a faster-paced program. There's nothing wrong with either one but you will want to take your own child into consideration when making a choice. :)

We are at Booster Card 43 (ING-Sound) and I find that there are still (albeit minor) glitches in the program. There is no explanation as to why the e in ‚being’ or the o in ‚going’ suddenly uses the long vowel sound… In book 17 the a sound in ‚also’ was never explained
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse Год назад
I need to look it up but being and going will be long vowel sounds because of it being an open syllable. I'm pretty sure they're taught that in the lesson book before card 43. Also may have been taught as a sight word. I do agree that they could add even more instruction in though. :)
