In Australia the Goodies was aired at 5pm and followed by The Kenny Everett Video Show, What a great way to spend time winding down after a stressful day at primary school. R.I.P. Tim

I grew up with these guys and loved the absolute silliness of each of the shows. I now have introduced my kids to The Goodies and they too love the absurdity. British comedy from the 70s and 80s are timeless

Goodies and Python are both genius. You don't have to pick. The Goodies (since that is the subject of the video) were and are the pinnacle of humour. I think Tim's death hit me harder than almost any other (him and Elizabeth Sladen). I was SO lucky to see them when they came to Australia - twice (Bill only once).

Was in the audience! A real pleasure to see them all in person and delighted to see this uploaded (even if I already have this on DVD!). There's a second half to the evening, with a Q&A session. Unsurprisingly, Bill DOES do most of the talking, but Tim & Graham were happy to let him, and it's not as though he didn't have anything interesting to say :) I always felt Bill was the spokesman of the trio, with Graham having a huge amount of input to their inventiveness and imaginative qualities, and with Tim just being the fun, relaxed and up-for-anything element - "Adorably silly" as Graham described him in a tribute after his death. So happy to have been there

Born 74; The Goodies, Kenny and proper Dr Who were part of this era for me. And they all blended together somehow, like an injection of British humour and culture I seemed to be missing as an Australian. Didn't always make me popular with the other kids, lol, but I formed my own group of slightly unusual friends and had a great time imagination wise. I'll also throw Catweazle and Worzel in there, all great influences. Also it was a bit weird for Australia cos we'd get things like Dr Who later than England, and then they'd just repeat everything. I didn't even have any clear idea of what story followed what, till the 83 Dr Anniversary Special...until then it was like...ABC will just loop Jon and Tom endlessly... @@Yxalitis

Got to be the first time Ive ever seen Stewart Lee fanboying but who could blame him? These guys were huge in Australia where all of Generation Y grew up on goodies repeats in the 1980s years after they'd finished, these guys and Dr Who were some of my first introductions to British culture.

@user-et6pj4db9s
@user-et6pj4db9s 8 месяцев назад
@@sfdntk never heard of him, but yes I'm sure Stewart has his heroes just like anyone else. I guess I was surprised here because Stewart's heroes would tend to be more obscure people, the goodies was a very mainstream program before this I would've guessed Stewart turning his nose up at the silliness of it.
@sfdntk
@sfdntk 8 месяцев назад
@@user-et6pj4db9s The character of Stewart Lee definitely would, he'd be jealous of their success and dismissive of their contribution to satire, but I can see why real life Stewart Lee adores them, they really changed the game for satire and comedy in the UK. And I would really recommend you watch Lee's documentary on Ted Chippington, he's a fascinating character and it's so glaringly obvious how influential he was on Lee's style. I had never heard of him either until watching the documentary, he had faded into obscurity (or perhaps further into obscurity) before I was even born, but I fell in love with him the moment I saw him perform on stage.

@@user-et6pj4db9s haha, "obscure" is definitely the word that best describes Chippington! He really is a singular talent, nobody in the world would have picked him to be a comedian and yet somehow his work inspired some of the most famous and talented satirists of the alternative comedy scene.

As someone who had the privilege to be in the audience that night (so happy to see this on RU-vid!), this video was only half of the evening, with a question and answer session filling the second half. If Bill had said things of zero interest, yes, that would have been annoying, but the absolute opposite was true. Tim & Graham were also more than happy to let Bill answer the questions and do the talking, with Tim often elaborating on answers Bill had given, whereas Graham seemed very relaxed, largely sitting it out, but coming in with a sharp one-liner or nugget of wisdom. I always felt Tim was the fun of the Goodies, Graham was the inventiveness of the Goodies and Bill was the heart of the Goodies! Anyway, it was a lovely evening (The Leicester Square Theatre, even if the bar wasn't cheap!) and so strange to see three people who were adults but felt like childhood friends :)
