I must say that I'm very impressed with the sounds emerging from these three and believe me I'm difficult to please when it comes to music. Yet after listening to all of the Goon Sax's tracks l found it difficult to stop listening. There is a musical element running through most of their song's that hooked me unawares. What was it ? The Goon Sax material is reminiscent of post punk bands of the 1980's. If on purpose or not, that sound emanates through their simplistic and effective musical arrangements, it fits and works and l love it. I haven't been excited for a band and their sound in years and l was frilled with the vocal performance of the two main singers, again, an echo from the past and delightfully renewed through the talents of the Goon Sax. With this connection to a past musical structure the band's overall sound is fresh and vibrant filled with anticipation of wonder to come. Plus I'm unable to compare them to any other band past or present and in music this is a great complement because it means this sound is original and exciting and could only belong to the talents of the individuals who go by Goon Sax.
I have just discovered this today after hearing one song on 3RRR radio a couple of times recently - they are a cross getween Human League and l don't know what - just brilliant. My favorite Australian Band of all time - The Go Betweens - look at the structure sounds - female drumer at times l think - the lead vocals haunting at times and then - what did it for me - Robert Forster's son is the lead - OMG - it is like history repeating itself forty years later ................Amazing
The Goon Sax: Very hot shit!.. if you are born during the last two centuries, or have otherwise missed the 80s and the 90s as far as pop music is concerned. For all others extremely boring.
