The #GoProHERO12 has officially arrived and I was able to put it to the test over the last two weeks whilst traveling through Indonesia. Exploring remote parts of East Java and other insane locations with the GoPro HERO 12 Black has been insane. Shooting in their brand new HDR and log colour profile allowed me to take my colour grade to the next level. The HERO 12 Lens mod 2.0 is an absolute game changer too, allowing you to capture even more specifically as an FPV Drone Pilot.

Thanks so much Jon, we shot this scene at around 5:45am when the fog was super thick. At first I thought it’s not even worth putting the drone up because I thought it’s too thick but for 10min it cleared up a bit and it was the most insane thing I have ever seen. Cheers for noticing 🙌🏼

Hi...the color grading on your footage looks amazing! Would you mind sharing your GoPro12 FPV Settings for this footage? I'm hearing mixed feelings on the "LOG" vs "FLAT" color profile. I'm aware LOG shouldn't really be used in LOW LIGHT conditions. I'm sure this tropical environment had a lot of highlights/shadows so curious of your thoughts! Is this mastered for HDR? HDR is the only meaningful upgrade from last years model for FPV. But judging from your (stunning) video, it looks exactly like it was shot on GoPro11

The HDR mode is great in moments where skies or a other brighter objects are a bit overexposed. It helps to balance the frame and create a more vivid look. I personally used it a lot when I didn’t have a ND filter with me. Also the lens mod 2.0 was extremely helpful in capturing certain scenes where I knew that after I stabilise the video my subject won’t be in frame anymore. Good example is the bike scene. Hope this helps :)

apart from battery life update and the lens mod you have to buy separately, its really not worth the upgrade for the price.

Depends what angle you look at it bro. The new colour profiles are a game changer for me as I always shoot in flat on the Gopro. Also as a gopro subscriber you get a juicy discount on the HERO 12 too. The lens mod 2.0 has allowed me to capture super close up footage whilst still keeping the subject in frame too :)

It is so awesome - this Video, great done. And the right and true answer who's the real king of action cams! I ordered the DJI Action 4, it was such a disappointment, sended it back. All these fake videos on RU-vid, even my G8 is better. I had all Gopros since 3 and I am happy having ordered now the 12 with Max lens mod 2. Thank's Gopro, you are the still the best. And I have a suspicion who spread such fake news about the 1 inch sensor and other features of the gopro 12 in advance. This fake news served the sole purpose of badmouthing the Gopro 12 and disappointing hopes. And this underhanded strategy has had its effect, I believe. This is deliberate manipulation, almost criminal.

Thanks so much man 🙌🏼 more power: battery life has drastically improved in my opinion when using enduro batteries. More colour: the HDR function is great in bright conditions when the sky tends to be blown out unless you are using ND filters. The colours itself are also more vibrant in my opinion. Colour grading felt much easier than with the 11. Max lens mod 2.0 makes a HUGE difference when capturing things up close. You can also shot in 4K 4:3 60fps with it now which with the 11 you can only shoot in 2.7k with the lens mod

TBH I am quite disappointed with the 12… as a huge fanboy of GoPro this is the first year since Hero 6 that I won’t be buying the latest model on release day… it just feels like the 11 with some bells and whistles… :(

It really depends what features are important to you. As a pro user I really appreciate the new colour profiles, longer battery life and the lens mod 2.0. I mainly use my GoPro for FPV, POV and vlogging. The lens mod really helps to capture the action. I’ve always been shooting in flat as I appreciate the freedom in post to colour grade to my liking. There are a couple other things I really like about the HERO 12 which I will be discussing in my behind the scenes edit later this week 🙌🏼 thanks for watching 😊
