The more we find out about Mary-Magdalena, the more fascinating she becomes. Imagine having lived right by Jesus's side for most of his life, and the cannonical Bible essentially erases your existence. I'd be pissed. I hope we find out as much as we can about her and restore her rightful place in Church history.

I agree her story is very intriguing and feel she serves as a feminine example women should strive for. In 1969, the Pope renounced her prostitute misnomer but unfortunately it's not common knowledge and many churches still weave her mistaken identity in their sermons, which IMHO makes them sadly negligent. I feel she has transcended the human emotion of outrage, although we can certainly feel that on her behalf and should spread awareness when possible. I am pleased that Pope Francis made a public declaration about her importance as a apostle of Christ and elevated her memorial day to a feast day. I'm hopeful that one day all will know her true nature.

HISTORICALLY ,Jesus had no problem with women - - his ' right hand ' was a woman , the apostle of apostles , Mary Magdalene - - Peter lacked the smarts to understand the messages in the parables - - several times Mary was asked to explain .Historically women were second class citizens in the culture of Jasus' time .The church does not like to talk about HISTORIC TRUTH - - only talk about faith & beliefs which , in fact were created by the zealous bishops to push THEIR agenda .WHen Constantine accepted Christianity , called the bishop to have a synode at which time the Nicene creed was created by a small percentage of all the bishops at that time who had a strong desire to push their agenda- -among them patriarchy & misogyny which around 425 was reinforced by Augustine of Hippo , the so called father of the church and the demonizer of women- -the cause of women's discrimination to priesthood . The old boys do not like to talk about the historic TRUTHS & too WIMPY to allow women priests .

I was into Tibetan Buddhism and it's mysticism like Rdzogchen and even their roots from Bon. All great stuff,informative, eye opening for sure but I was lost and searching.As fate would have it I've found what I was looking for.I was introduced to Christianity as early as 1969 when I was born by my Grandma.As time went on I wandered away from it because I thought that it was archaec and not relevant to this "modern age" but as time went on I began to see how fake this world is. I began to notice another presence around me that would make good things happen and would answer my thoughts, always but never on my time.I almost died 16 times in my life.When I listen to His prompts I always am successful in building my "Knowledge Repetoir".Any other book toward "truth" never stacks up to what the Bible instructs.I know because I'm a former Pagan-Gnostic- New Ager! If you accept The Holy Spirit into your life everything changes.Your myopic paradigm shifts a few noticable degrees and continues relative to your ability to grasp things on this crazy, tumultuous and uncertain road of life.I'm now a solid-as- rock Believer because of what all I've seen and experienced.Not bragging,just sayin'😒

This shows what Jesus was really trying to convey and what, in my view, was mis-construed and what has caused so much strife (as it has become externalised as though he is "out there" somewhere and we need to find him/salvation, hence all the conflict and control involved in such a pursuit). When you truly go silent within in total trust, you are in connection with him/God and your true nature. This can still be a process of discovery, but that is the essence of it. You cannot silence the truth and the truth is silence. God bless

@soleknight3212
@soleknight3212 Год назад
@@TheGuiltsOfUs With the greatest of respect, he never failed. It was the disciples who misunderstood his teachings to a certain extent - APART from Mary Magdalene - which in turn were then formed into a 'religion' that somewhat missed the point (although there is still much wisdom to be gained there IMO). He is very much real as a spiritual entity. One can deride him as much as one wants, but it cannot destroy the truth of his existence, which is actually YOUR true nature (pure consciousness). He taught that you and he are ONE. Only each of us can find this out for ourselves. Peace

Wow, this is why the canon is so important, just a single exclusion of a book like this changes everything. Apart from Mary who is instantly rejected.

If Jesus was teaching Mary things that he didn't share with the others then I'm certain that was for a reason because these things were not to be shared as part of the gospels for teaching. it does, and also that she could 'see' what others could not. the same is found in another text, the dialog of the saviour where it says 'she spoke as a woman who understood everything'. this is the text one can find her addressing a saying of her own to Jesus "we take our stand in this [your teaching] and to the world we are transparent". Similar ideas occur in the pistis sophia, and 1 obscure church father 'the lord always used to sit and listen to her wisdom' (from memory). together with the gospels, if you add this up it points to a significant tradition that's only now being recovered. i think her idea of the gospel may be found in the text, The Odes of Solomon

Thank you so much for this. I feel the need to share the moment my mother passed away in Ireland in 2012. Briefly I had been with her for the last 3 days holding her hand, when she stopped breathing I reached down to give her a hug and was met with this beautiful force rising from her body, it went through me and out my back heading upwards. I looked down and immediately realized that this was the vessel that carried my Mother's soul, her suffering was over. Your message here resonated with me for that reason. My lecturer later told me that was my Mother's greatest gift to me, the confirmation that I always knew, what happens at death. @Georgia-Vic
@Georgia-Vic Год назад
@@jassimarsingh6505 I see what you are alluding to but for something to be "hidden" it cannotes secrecy and intentionally hiding something from someone's view in order to deceive them or to outright trick them. A better word, definition or description would be something like: not very well known, obscure, uncommon knowledge, unordinary, vague or anything else but "hidden!" These aren't semantics but a more clear way of relaying something to someone else without being ambiguous. Other people don't always know our biased and peculiar ways of talking. Jesus hides nothing from us. If by some chance we fail to see the message, it's only because we are unable to understand it. If we don't get the gist of a teaching it's only because we either have not had enough life experience under our belts OR we just are outright rebellious and childishly refuse to receive it, in which it's no ones fault but ours, not the person speaking,writing or conveying the message to us! If we say "well I didn't know about it, therefore I'm exempt from the consequences!" we then are irresponsible and a victim and that is unacceptable to God. We hold ourselves back from progress! God gives us free will and discernment, if we don't use them then that's our problem. God forces nothing on us and He hides nothing from us because we are His children. When the KJV Bible speaks of secrecy and things being hidden, that's the certain interpretation of the translator. Old English is a dead language. We don't call rabbits "Coneys".We don't call seals "Badgers". We don't say:" Thee" or "thou" and we don't speak like the people did in Great Britain 300 some odd years ago. King James hired William Shakespeare to copy the Bible. William then subcontracted 70 other men to do the research to make his job easier. Those men worked with candles and oil lamps in low light and the sources and resources were questionable at best.They were in a hurry to get their pay and the longer they took to translate the longer they went without money.We update our dictionary every 5 years!😏😳also when things are penned on paper, the translators' (and the Prophets) intentions were not like what we today think they are. We think that things are only one way; the way that we think that they should be without exception and that's closed minded, selfish and myopic because we take things out of context just to suit our own egos or to win an argument! There are different ways of looking at something. Sometimes if you'll turn it around you will see a different aspect of it and lastly things in Ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and ancient Greek cannot be translated into our modern English which is an amalgamation of various other borrowed languages! 🫤 And some words cannot be translated because they don't have those words and vice versa. Some cultures don't have words for "good bye" or "future" or "hidden"...so what does a translator do? They make up words, suppose,conject or find a suitable word to replace or fill in. Does that mean that it's wrong? By no means, it's just the only way that we can make something broken whole!

Hi Janel, The Gospel of Mary was written far after the historical events. Mary, mother of Jesus, was long dead in the second century, thus everyone knows this text is a forgery and has no relevance to the historical Jesus. Stick with truth!
@The_Maze_Is_Not_Meant_For_You
One of my FAVORITE courses ever was "The Gnostic Gospels," with one of my favorite professors, David Brakke. It was a small class, with perhaps a dozen of us, most of whom knew each other from other classes in the Religious Studies department. We had some of the COOLEST discussions and debates about the material. 25 years later, and I can still remember the course number (R425/565, combined graduate/undergrad). Bentley Layton had recently published his seminal work, covering everything from Valentinus, Ireneus, Gospel of Thomas, etc. I don't remember whether Mary was in the book, but we DID cover it. As an atheist who still finds religion to be both a source and chronicle of the evolution of the mind of mankind, discovering the Thomas and Mary gospels was a transformative moment, opening my mind to studying Christianity, both from an historical perspective, as well as the theological contemplation of its proferred wisdom. I truly wonder how the Church, and civilization itself, would be different if Thomas and Mary had been included among the canonical texts. It almost makes me sad. Anyway, thank you so much for this great video

"If you can empty your mind of all thoughts, your heart will know the tranquility of peace. Watch the endless rush of worldly beings, yet contemplate their return to the Source. Each being in the universe returns to the common Source. To return to the Source is to find peace. To find peace is to fulfil one’s destiny. To fulfil one’s destiny is to be constant. To know the constant is to be enlightened. Not knowing this leads to eternal sorrow. Being at one with the Tao, you naturally become impartial. Impartiality is the highest nobility. As an agnostic who went to catholic schools in until college, I find it interesting that they were more willing to teach us about other non-christian religions than the history of early Christianity. While I don't feel particularly drawn to belief of any sort (even calling myself agnostic is being charitable. I simply believe that if there is some omnipotent/omnipresent being, then it must be impossible to scientifically prove it disprove) I find it absolutely fascinating to see all the ways in which Christian teachings were interpreted and communicated in the early years before the development of the church as a monolithic entity.

Hi, I share the same background as you and appreciate your honest comment here. I'd like to share this: About 10 years after finishing college, I started reading a lot of non-religious philosophy on my own for like 6-7 years (Greek, German, British, etc). It was kind of incredible but these texts actually drew me back towards Christian philosophy and teaching, like Thomas Aquinas. In the past year I started going to church again and feel pretty good about it. I bring my young children as well. I guess one major takeaway after the life experiences I've had is that the church is a more wholesome and stable institution for my children than the tumultuous secular ones we have available. It took me years to arrive here and lots of consideration --and I don't "know" I'm right. Part leap of faith I suppose. Keep searching and reading!

I wonder if this is the earliest example of the Christian theory that the individual “soul” goes to heaven when a human being dies - as opposed to St Paul’s idea that the dead will all rise, transformed like Jesus, only when He returns in glory. In my Catholic schooling, I was taught that BOTH were in store for us: When we die, our souls go to God for immediate judgment and an eternity in heaven or hell - or an unknown period of suffering and soul-cleansing in purgatory. Then when Christ returns, all the dead rise and there’s a “final judgment.” That used to confuse me: Why TWO judgements? Wouldn’t the souls in purgatory all be released into heaven? And weren’t the souls in heaven and hell already judged for all eternity? You’ve helped me understand that the competing theories go back to the beginnings of the church, which later went on, I surmise, to combine the two. Even today, more recent Christian groups like Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses apparently propose more complex theories involving multiple heavens and the total extermination of the souls of the wicked. “Quot homines, tot sententiae” the Romans said - There are as many opinions as there are human beings!
@TheGuiltsOfUs

That early theory arose due to a syncretism of the hellenistic and hebraic cultures. I doubt rabbi yeshua, if he existed, would understand it.

Mormons are not Christians and neither are Jahova witnesses. Mormons for example believe in many God's. They believe that God use to be a man who died and became our God. They believe Jesus and Satan are brothers and the litteral children of God and one of his many wives in heaven. They believe God is sexual. They believe when you die if you follow all the mormon ways you become a god of your own planet too. Those cultists believe nothing that actual Christians do. Their God Jesus and Holy spirt are not the same as our GOD (God Jesus and the holy spirt as 1.) None of their creation story is the same as ours. The fight between heaven and the followers of Satan is different. They do not believe Satan is a fallen angel. Mormon and Christian theology are two separate things two completely different stories.

It’s interesting Peter is shown to be a hothead, because he is very much that way in the gospels. Jesus rebukes him for insisting on running from the chief priests, he likely part of the general “disciples” in Matthew who get angry over the woman who puts oil on him, but he’s also the one who seems the most courageous at other times. He leaves the boat, he follows to see Jesus’ trial, gets angry (again) when denying knowing Jesus, and may also be they guy who cut off the servant’s ear when Judas showed up in the garden. Peter is a strange figure. Seemingly the most enthusiastic to follow, but definitely did not seem to understand a large portion of what Jesus tried to say. Why would Jesus want someone like that as his “rock”? Or was being the “rock” not necessarily a fully good thing as has been assumed. Perhaps Jesus understood that sometimes making people understand could be better done with a truncheon than an arrow? Or that despite all his failings, Jesus saw in Peter true potential?

What many do not realize is that the commonly emphasized trope that the esoteric gospels mentioning ‘Mary’ refer exclusively to Mary Magdalene is quite incorrect. The Magdalene is mentioned in her turn, but in these same gospels (including this one), Mary the mother of Jesus is equally identified as one of the mystical interpreters of Jesus’s teachings, and in cases where the ‘Mary’ being mentioned is not specifically identified, it is just as likely that the text refers to the mother of Jesus as it may refer to the Magdalene. In the very ancient and early Church movement, it was the mother of Jesus (and male kinfolk/brothers) who were remembered as the powerful leaders, as a family unit, of the Jerusalem messianic community, coming into conflict with the newcomer Paul, especially. The Magdalene was not remembered as a leader of the movement, but as a key disciple. However, it has been the fad to understand the esoteric “Mary” as being the Magdalene because it titillates those who seek to propose that Jesus had sexual relations with a female disciple who then became his special confidant. New studies and evidence overturn this fad about the esoteric texts and identify the mother of Jesus as the “Mary” who exerted leadership (which is indicated or implied in the canonical Gospel texts) or that the unidentified “Mary” in these texts can be a conglomerate figure of the important Marys in the very early movement. The Magdalene IS specified in places, but the mother of Jesus is specified just as often in these unique texts, if not more. It’s quite fascinating.

It is essential to acknowledge that throughout history, women have faced various forms of discrimination and suppression across different cultures and religions. However, it's important to note that interpretations of religious texts can vary, and many religious communities have made efforts to promote gender equality and challenge oppressive practices. Here are some examples of verses from different religious texts that have been used to both support and challenge the suppression of women. Please remember that interpretations and cultural contexts play a significant role in understanding these verses, and they may be subject to different interpretations: Christianity: Suppressive Interpretation: 1 Timothy 2:11-12 (New Testament): "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." Supportive Interpretation: Galatians 3:28 (New Testament): "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Islam: Suppressive Interpretation: Quran 4:34: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient." Supportive Interpretation: Quran 33:35: "Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so - for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward." Judaism: Suppressive Interpretation: Genesis 3:16 (Hebrew Bible): "To the woman, he said, 'I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor, you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.'" Supportive Interpretation: Proverbs 31:26 (Hebrew Bible): "She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue." Hinduism: Suppressive Interpretation: Manusmriti 9.3: "In childhood, a female must be subject to her father; in youth, to her husband; when her lord is dead, to her sons; a woman must never be independent." Supportive Interpretation: Rig Veda 10.85.7: "The wife and husband, being the equal halves of one substance, are equal in every respect; therefore, both should join and take equal parts in all work, religious and secular." Buddhism: Suppressive Interpretation: Mahaparinibbana Sutta: In this account of Buddha's final days, some monks suggested that women could not attain the same level of enlightenment as men. Buddha responded but did not outright reject the notion. Supportive Interpretation: There are various teachings and stories in Buddhist texts that depict women attaining enlightenment and holding positions of respect within the monastic community.

Much love! Thank you Filip. The seven powers are likely intended to be the opposing forces of the seven virtues in Merkabah mysticism, being the esoteric milieu out of which the Jewish founders of Christianity sprang. Working out the correspondences could be rather straightforward. The Ten Sephirot are right there in the first chapter of the first book in the Hebrew Scriptures. I recommend setting the two letters of chaos with the first two verses and then follow the associations between the Hebrew letters and the Sephirot down the list as per the standard interpretation of the Sefer Yetzirah. Tbc, the standard interpretation takes the first verse to be the first Sephira but then there would be verses of the Divine Speech that do not correspond to a Sephira. Take care! There is nothing in this comment that is not already published and widely circulated, except for my own recommendation. Investigate for yourself.

Samkhya is basically a Hindu version of sorts of the Taoist theory of Ying-Yang & is important to understand Shaktism in general. The attack on Mary by Peter and most of the other opostles , hints at the patriarchal control we see in the writing of not only most Christian text , but the power structure of the church as well. The Abrahamic religions to this day keep a tight leash on woman , not just in the secular world , but as religious teachers as well. We see that the Magdalena writings didn't even make the final cut of the Cannon. And I agree with you that it had to be written by a helenistic Christian because a Jewish wouldn't have written it . ❤

Yes because Mary was Jesus wife and it is true that behind an important man there is a woman beside

Interesting Philip. I appreciate your dedication to truth telling. How does one maintain one’s religious commitments in light of the obviously culturally and temporarily defined mandates? I’ve always wanted to ask Dr. Sledge the same question

The Church ,the Jews and the Romans made sure we wont know what Jesus taught Mary. The fallen Ones are still in charge in the World. But we know they are available to Teach us direct.

Fascinating how many of these non-orthodox ideas are very close to Indian mystical and philosophical traditions, or at least don't have major contradictions with the latter, unlike Christian orthodoxy.

That is true, you're right. However Christianity is based on the 4 canonical gospels written by eyewitnesses or people who knew the eyewitnesses. The Gnostic texts are written far after Mary, Thomas, and the others had died.
