I've said it before, Senior you did a hell of a job raising Junior. Have you ever thought of having a boys camp for the summer. You could teach those boys a lot that they sadly don't get from home. You're a natural and could have another revenue stream. Always enjoy going along with you guys! Have fun! Junior always has the right attitude, it makes all the difference.

Sorry to comment again, I used to be a fish taxidermist did many replicas. The best thing you can do to help the taxidermist is get great close up photos of the various parts of the fish markings. They are all unique and the goal is to paint the fish to look just like yours. Hope that helps.

I grew up fishing for Northerns, cleaning and eating them. A lot of people whine about the Y bones, but if you don't bolt your food like a starving piranha, they are not a problem, IMO. They are good eating pan fried but most people around here pickle them. I've also grilled one split in half.

@@SinCityOutdoors We have pike that size in Rivers and lakes in England, too. Those things can take your finger(s) off very easily. It's not unusual to see ducklings and other waterfowl swimming, only for them to disappear under the water suddenly, without even a splash, never to return. You think you've miscounted them, until another disappears. The pike are that stealthy, and very efficient hunters.

Another way to preserve a fish is to incase it in a polyurethane resin, my cousin did that with a lake trout and made a coffee table out of it. There are things to do when Northern fishing, like when the lure gets to the boat, jerk it sideways. If there's a pike following, it'll get him to bite. So, two fishermen in a boat hears a lady screaming from a pier, so they rush over. She says her dog was swallowed whole by a pike near the pier. The two fishermen look at each other, then asks what color the dog was... The only bad thing about pike is you have to filet them differently. Too bad about the mercury levels. They would have been good eating...

I was fishing with a lure like that once at Lake Meade. I was bored and the big lure put up a little fight all by itself and I was just casting it out as far as I could. After about the 4th or 5th cast when I reeled it in I noticed it was wriggling and I thought that was weird until I saw a little tiny 1.5 inch fish had bit one of the giant hooks. Not snagged, but he actually bit the hook. It was at that moment I knew I was never gonna make it as a fisherman.

I would make a shore lunch of the fish we caught that morning and most of my clients never knew they were eating northern pike, but they enjoyed the meat even more than the walleye. The only caveat is the pike have to be caught in very very cold water. In warm or muddy water they are not worth eating. LOVE catching them! Troy Ball Lake Havasu

I have fished the Northern Pike in Colorado at Spinney Mountain Resivore. It's up in the South Park area close to Eleven Mile Resivore. These fish act like a log when you hook into a big one. It's as if they bite the lour & go straight to the bottom of the lake & just sit there until you wear them out. It feels like you are hooked onto a log or like you said a large bunch of weeds. It was a very odd experience the first time I hooked into one. The more I have fished them I've gotten used to how they feel & they are rather large fish as well. The trout in the lake are huge as well. They close Spinny Mountain res during the winter & it's also closed at dusk & opens at dawn. This gives the fish some serious time to grow large & the trout must be a minimum of 20 inches to keep & you can only keep 2 of them. But the Pike they want you to keep all of them for the same reason they are invasive to the state of Colorado.
