This is the Grand Finale of Helsreach and it was one extremly wild ride. I really want to read the book that was the source for this Fanimation just to know more about what happened in detail!

Please read the book! I've read like 60+ 40k books at this point and it's still my favorite. I was afraid having watched the animation first that it would ruin the book, but it absolutely does not. The book adds so much extra content and context to everything. Definitely a must read.

At the start of the story he sought nothing but glory. Now that this story has ended he finally understands what glory truly means

an absolutely BEAUTIFUL yet underrated touch by the artists, whenever there is battle, the picture is literally more clear/defined/specific. Yet whenever its just dialogue or interaction, the picture is hazy, erratic, chaotic. This could simply be the production team applying their resources where it really matters, but my own headcannon, is that Grim isnt at his best unless hes in combat. Everything outside of combat is this understandable, yet disgusting mirage of reality. But when faced with the fires of war, it literally becomes crystal clear as to whats transpiring. Obviously, my own views, but after watching Helsreach many times at this point, it definitely makes for a better view.

There isn't a team for this it's all 1 guy excluding extra VA I guess. Which is why the models are off and the animation is bad, because he's a film guy not an animation generalist. But really the film effects at the start had a reason behind it. That's harder to do than just film it normal. I don't know his reasoning behind it. Probably addresses it in his making of stuff but that's like 4 hours long and I really never cared enough to watch the whole thing.

8:16- The Adepta Sororitas aren't intimidated by the Adeptus Astartes despite the fact they're not genetically enhanced like the Space Marines are, and they're more badass on the battlefield than even the Black Templars. As you saw Accolonn, if they were wearing their armor they would've killed Primus for insulting their mistress since they don't take shit from anyone. 26:08- He had to since as Forge Master Jerusian had said, Oberon could only fire every 20 minutes which in military terms that's too long since Grimaldus' forces would be overrun by the time it fires again and it's other features weren't operational. And it's a strategic asset that's too valuable to loose, so the only option is to send it away so they can retake Armageddon once the Season of Fire passes. 27:24 - I HAVE DUG MY GRAVE IN THIS PLACE, AND I WILL TRIUMPH OR I WILL DIE!!! NO PITY!!! NO REMORSE!!! NO FEAR!!! 32:08- Regarding what Andre said of those who survived the last stand are as follows: -Reclusiarch Grimaldus of the Black Templars -Adjutant Quintus Cyria Tyro -Major Reikan -Guardsman Andre -4 Steel Legionnaires -Adepta Sororita Novice (the 15-year old who informed Prioress Sindel of the Black Templar's arrival and who spoke with Andre) Note: The reason why the Adepta Sororita Novice may have survived is because she didn't fight alongside her Mistress or her fellow Sisters in the last stand since she was too young and to recap when they first met the Black Templars there were 4 Sisters of Battle and only 3 were killed. It's also the reason why following the Third War for Armageddon Grimaldus would never command a squad and would always go into battle alone because he doesn't want to see his brothers die in a manner similar to the Crusaders of Helsreach.

Sisters "aren't more badass" then astartes. They are great soldiers wearing power armour but not enhanced humans like Astartes are. 1v1 space marines are fucking them up every time without plot armour. Or saint Celesine.

As far as Astartes go, they are technically mutants after all.

Dowarish Captain Andrej is the best side character in all of 40k. he is like comedy relief, but in an realistic, not over-the-top way. if i'm not mistaken, he is still alive, so i am looking forward to seeing him again. hopefully with, or atleast crossing ways with Grimaldus again.

The Helsreach book is a joy to read and if you want to see more of the large cinematic Warhammer shows after Helsreach you could take a gander at Angels of Death(Also by Richard Boylan after he started working for GW which features the Blood Angels), Exodite(Tau), and Hammer and Bolter(Multiple with the first episode featuring Yarrick and Ghaz which looks kinda terrible but improves somewhat in the later episodes). Also if you want to see from the Ork side of things instead of the Imperium, you could either play Dakka Squadron and Shootas, Blood and Teef or just watch the trailers/cutscene compilations.

The one guy who shot the other in the titan survives and climbs out breaking ribs, his legs and knocking out some teeth. Then laughs at the irony as orks beat him to death. Just so you know.

The quality/amount of color in Helsreach mirrors Grimaldus's emotional state. At the beginning of the story, Grimaldus is struggling with depression and survivors guilt and so the animation is very black and white. As the story progresses and he begins to move past his guilt, the animation gains clarity and color is introduced. By the climax, Grimaldus has come to terms with his grief and the animation reflects this; but then his squad is killed in front of him, the depression and survivors guilt returnand the animation returns to back and white to showcase this. I prefer the interpretation of the general mood of the final, heart-wrenching last stand within the temple in the Helsreach fan-made movie than the novel. In the novel, in true Templar fashion, there's almost a sort of insane levity, what with Artarion laughing his final words and Grimaldus echoing that. I can see why people would approve of either interpretation, but I prefer the movie's. The tone is far more somber and heart-breaking, as it should be, I think. The Black Templars are known for the incredible zealotry that most rears its head in moments that would make most consider a retreat. Their attrition rates are atrociously high. Dying gloriously on the field of battle, against overwhelming odds is seen as the highest honor...as it should be. I feel sometimes it's portrayed with almost too much levity, though. The Helsreach movie did it right; it showed us something far more somber. It showed us that even amongst warriors who see a violent death as an inevitability, who feel no fear, who seek to burn twice as brightly still experience the pain of loss...and it is crushing. Not only that, the deaths of squad Grimaldus all showed their true, beautiful and terribly honest, colors at the end. Nero, a competent apothecary and warrior no doubt, was far more prone to outbursts of emotion, especially grief. Amongst Templars, one might call him soft...I think he was simply the most human. Within meek, gentle Nerovar beat the heart of defiance; as he was hoisted onto a spear by his midriff, he pulled himself down lower upon the spear whilst still being impaled...and for what purpose? So that, in a final act of defiance and raw courage, he could stab his killer and take him down with him. In his final moments, we see gentle Nero shine brighter than all as a true warrior. For such a death Bell of Lost Souls upon Holly Terra will rang and the Emperor drop a single tear, embracing another soul of His finest. Priamus was young, proud, haughty, and immensely talented. Quick to anger, quick to misinterpret. Proud to a fault, he refused to show weakness; arrogance was his default trait, though it did not come from a place of malice. In his final moments, the overwhelming pain of missing a limb, amongst a myriad of other injuries, finally showed in his voice. It was heart-wrenching. "They're bringing the temple down!" is said with such desperation, yet he continues to fight. The implacable pain of witnessing the brutalizing of his battle-brother Nerovar and the futility of trying to save him is palpable in his delivery when he cries "Nero!" Not least though, is when Priamus, finally succumbing to fatigue, takes a blow across his face and falls to his knees. In his final moments, proud and boastful Priamus looks towards his brother-chaplain and says "Grimaldus...brother." with such pain and trembling voice, the rest of the scene I watched through blurred vision. In his final moments, despite being a zealous Templar, despite knowing he would die violently, despite a lifetime of battle, despite knowing that his death in glorious battle would earn him a place beside the Emperor of mankind...he wished only for the comfort and presence of one of his brothers. He did so much, yet so little. He didn't want to die alone. None shall find him wanting. Artarion...dependable, sturdy Artarion. I don't have nearly as much to say, but it doesn't soften the blow any less. Banner bearer of Squad Grimaldus. Stalwart. Gruff. A pillar of strength, to be sure. In his final moment, before decapitation, he looked towards his brother, Grimaldus, and somberly said goodbye. He was going towards the Emperor's light, he was saved...his honor and his memory intact. He was to die a warrior's glorious death against impossible odds; this is akin to the holy grail, practically, for Black Templars. Yet, still, in his final moments, he laments having to be separated in life from his brother. The sheer weight of loss sets itself upon him so solidly, he cannot hide it when he says "Goodbye, brother." Perhaps he knew. Perhaps he knew that he alone would die and Grimaldus would live. Maybe his deep, audible pain was in knowing, in feeling that somehow Grimaldus would live. That wherever Artarion was going now, in the afterlife, Grimaldus will not follow...not for an agonizingly long time. And so he grieved because he would miss his brother, simply put, and Grimaldus would miss him. How soberingly human. Were I Grimaldus, I don't think I would have wanted to survive, either. The pain of living through that may very well dwarf whatever temporary pain he would have felt from death. The final guilt of living, he must bear it like a mantle, like a scar on his heart - until the Emperor call his soul too. "The Hero of Helsreach...as if there was only one." - none could say better.

The Book is worth the read. There are some epic scenes there not included in the fan-animation. Namely, more screentime for Andrej and how his squad preserved the body of a dying Black Templar, the Battle of the Docks where Grimmaldus conscripted the dockworkers to fight, and especially the Fall of the Basilica which I have to say was more epic than what the fan-animation could convey. One of many

12:39 The Imperium's titans have better quality, shields, and weapons than Ork Gargants The advantages of Ork titans however is their ability to field more of them while also being able to repair or resurrect them faster than the Imperium. Though they have a larger tendency to break down or explode on their own volition, it takes a lot of Imperial resources or firepower to take one down. Hence only Imperial Titans tend to be the most effective counter to them

sisters of battle give zero fucks for astartes they see them as mutants mostly.

Not all sisters think so. Mostly sisters bloody love Black Templars coz of the same religion zeal and worshiping of the God Emperor. + sisters and Black Templars share eternal hatred towards psykers, mutants, xenos and heretics. The only ones that sisters of battle love even more are Custodians, Grey Knigts and loyal Primarchs like Roboute Guilliman (the only alive son of their God)
