Rovaniemi is the hometown of Santa Claus and it is christmassy all year round. The highlight of the year is though at the end of November, when the Christmas season is opened officially by the most famous citizen of Rovaniemi, Santa Claus. Many elves, citizens and tourists take also part in the festivity.
This year the Grand Opening of The Christmas Season started with Christmas concert by local artists Jaana Isokangas, Ella Jokela, Belcanto choir, Kauko Simonen and team from Rovaniemi Theatre. The location was beautiful central square of Santa Claus Village at the Arctic Circle.
The event culminated in Santa Claus’ speech - and of course he declared the Christmas season 2016 opened.
The evening was rounded off with dancing to Christmassy disco tunes.
