Our 'cupboard under the stairs' is a wee room off our utility room that houses the boiler. My husband is a shover. Dont know here to put it so shove it in there! I tidy regularly, he untidies.

Seeing this vid come up on my phone this morning I decided to enjoy it with a real coffee latte and crumpets. Yes, you do have a small cupboard under the stairs. Strange about that wall, but a bigger cupboard would only mean storing more stuff. I enjoyed the video, especially your hopeless hand gestures at the beginning of the sort. I use Haribo plastic boxes with lids for batteries and lightbulbs as they have lids are stackable and are free!!. I do have a suggestion...You may need to put an edge to your shelving to stop the boxes falling off as they are hard plastic they may break. A piece of wood or thick cardboardnit necessarily the width of the shelves would do it. Looking forward to more videos, now I will go and flap my hands at all the mounds of stuff around my house as I find it impossible to get rid of stuff. Thanks Carla ❤️

I think the posh phrase is internal lobby :) Great job with the decluttering, a free workout as well, even if it was to a really slow G'n'R track ;) Agree with other comments, you can see your weight loss too!

Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. You must have a great feeling of accomplishment though, I certainly would. Well done! You are moving forward and that’s what it takes to make big improvements. Look at your weight loss, small things every day lead to big results! I feel inspired to tackle a few things myself. I loved the part where Natalie hugged you on her way by and the interaction with Molly. I swear she must be the most beautiful dog ever...such a sweet face, I’m so happy you have each other😊🤗🇨🇦🥰...ps...I loved that you put the spider out...I was a bit scared that you might kill it but you affirmed my faith in you by being a gentlewoman 💕

I'm a natural declutterer, because mess makes me feel VERY anxious. I just couldn't pass that space on my way to, and return from the kitchen and bathroom. Its a great space, when you have limited storage cupboards though. You did a good job. I'd have binned the lot. I do a full house declutter , and declutter everyones wardrobe, every 3 months, It makes me feel calmer, but that's just me. We're all different....

Good job Carla! Now off to tackle the cupboard under the sink... In March 2020 I did quite a lot of decluttering but it’s funny how ‘stuff’ manages to creep back into the house - anyway, really like these decluttering videos, as like you, they usually motivate me to do something myself x

Carla...my grandmother had a house very similar to your layout and the under the stairs was called the pantry, hers had a little window and that concrete block had a marble slab on for keeping things cold. Hers had a coal fire and a tiny coal hearth in 2 of the bedrooms too but OMG it was freezing. Her kitchen slightly different to yours in that it had a separate toilet one side (pantry side) and bath and sink the other side, leaving the kitchen bit in middle separated by doors....hope you get what I mean. These were typical council houses and some had slight variations in layouts.....they don’t build solid houses like that anymore unfortunately. Really enjoy all your videos, so thank you.

Why am I watching you sort your under stairs cupboard when mine hasn’t been done for more than 20 years? My vacuum and ironing board don’t even fit in it anymore. This lockdown might actually be the ideal time that I’ve been waiting for. Big cheer for you.

Great! The sort of decluttering when you aren't sure what the items are and have to ask someone else who says 'just keep that..!' isn't as personally satisfying as being totally autonomous. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing what you have and where things are - really looking forward to this occasional series!

Seeing your understairs area and all you have managed to fit into that space made me smile, because mine is so similar, and I too have the blind to cover the stuff up. I also sensed that you had an air of `I really don’t want to have to sort all this and put it back, which is the feeling I get when I pull everything out. It is overwhelming. Why do we buy/keep all these things?! I think most of us resellers have in common that we have an uncanny knack of accumulating stuff’. It’s a hard habit to break too but well done on your efforts, I will be doing similar tomorrow. Only it’s twice as hard at the moment with no charity shops open for the reusable things to go too, as they tend to stay in the house then and ‘somehow’ make their way back out of the bags and boxes!

When I had a huge decluttering a couple of years ago I started, almost accidentally, the garden shed. It was full of "stuff" which mostly got ruined when the roofing felt ripped off and rainwater got in. I couldn't clear it myself but I found a man to do it for me - and demolish the shed! I got a new (obviously empty) shed and had wriggle room for a major house clearing. That left the way clear for replastering, redecs and new carpets in all the bedrooms. I was happy with the result but I must say nobody takes as much care of your "stuff" as you would yourself. With arthritis I simply wasn't able but my advice would be to do it now, while you still can - we never know what tomorrow has in store.

Good job Clara. Decluttering in 2021 is a goal of mine too. My home (just ordinary 3 bed) is filled to the ceiling (quite literally in some rooms) with a 60+ year life time of family stuff (plus some inherited things). I really must get to grips with the situation as I don't want it to leave this to my adult children to deal with when I'm gone. I've made various attempts. My stumbling blocks are procrastination and indecision to the point of panic. Also, OH will not part with anything other than absolute rubbish - EVERYTHING else (including MY personal things) might have a use one day and must be squirrelled away. Will definitely follow along with you. x

excellent job !!! have you got a shed Carla ? thats where a lot of my car and decorating stuff goes as that space would have an excellent pantry ! I am in the middle of a big wardrobe clear out as a lot of my clothes are far too big now I have gone from a 22 to a 14 in total and still got some 20 s left . last time I did a clear out I raised £750 for the local children's hospice with clothes donations so lets see what I can do again ! xx

I too have a tiny house (by Canadian standards)...2 storeys with about 450 ft.² per floor. I do however, have a full basement. I use it to store ‘stuff’. The only problem is, my ‘stuff’ has gotten really out of hand, and I currently have a path from my basement stairs to my washing machine. I hate even going down there but I know that I need to tackle it one of these days. The water heater service person is due to come out March 3 so I still have a bit of time yet....but it HAS TO be done before then! (Hmmmm, I still have 6 weeks 😉).

Big improvement by the end of it, painting probably made it a lot less enjoyable but looks so much better. I've been decluttering and now minimal for the last 6 years, I find the videos keep me motivated and give some good ideas, I wish I had done it when I was a lot younger but better late than never.

I've been decluttering this week too. It's very satisfying. The cupboard under the stairs was always called the cwtch at home (I'm Welsh) what does Lexx call it I wonder. Great job Carla. Take care xx
