The game is beautiful at all levels, I'd say. There's joy in goofing around with cyclops and scarab beetles, fun in finding a rhythm with learning how to allocate resources to match the needs of your growing army, intellectual challenge in deciding whether to fight on water and where to fight on land, and having an efficient economy means you have more resources to do fun stuff with! Like deploy deity powers, research armor and weaponry, choose your army comp and where to drop fortresses.

@@Catalysten Definitely agree with you there. It is everyone's own cup of tea of course. I simply got a bit overwhelmed from the massclicking etc. while I normally play videogames for the more relaxing playstyles. Thanks for your response!

Play FFA or team games. A lot of low elo/new comers play those

The trick is just never apply effort into your ranked games in the first place. This ensures that every rank game will be a casual experience. Rank is meaningless unless you are the top 1% of players anyways, so just don't worry about it.
