The Great Debate: eBook vs Book Books. Which is best?

I get it, I really do. Turning pages. The smell of the paper. Passing them down, from generation to generation. The memories they carry.
Traditionally printed books are special.
But for me, the advantages of reading on an eReader are too great to ignore.
Edit: Sorry for the awkward add on at the end! I'm not a professional RU-vidr (obviously!) and I don't have time for actual editing! 😂

There is no best. There's only what's best for you. Personally, I travel alot, so physical books can get heavy and cumbersome. I love my Kindle Paperwhite! It was a good investment on my part.

Know the comment is old, but personally I prefer to carry physical books around instead. I tend not to read more than 2 or 3 books while traveling on vacation, so having a complete library isn't really necessary for me anyway. I have to consciously choose which books I'd like to bring and see how things go from there. It helps me build a better appreciation for the title itself, rather than having the convenience of having all the titles and not creating an emotional connection. But that is my opinion.

I spend all day on a computer and love the feeling of holding a book instead of another gadget. HOWEVER, I have dedicated my reading solely to my kindle because it’s easier to check out library books (I’ve saved a ton of money), the books I want frequently go on sale if I want to buy them, it’s easier to annotate and use the dictionary, and I have zero guilt about the amount of paper used. I consider myself an (avid, in my opinion) e reader. :)

I love books. I am a mood reader, so lugging around books was always an arduous task. I remember stuffing books 📚 in my purse 👛, backpack, and tote bag 🛍️. I am thrilled to finally have a device brimming with magical lands and rich information to devour. I can switch back and forth to read whatever I am feeling that day. I wasn't sure at first because I am a book snob, but my #Kindle changed how I read. I no longer like the clutter of books around either. I only collect certain covers as artwork and my absolute favorite books in hard form.

I am a recent convert, because I was hesistant to buy another gadget (is it really neccessary?). But after seeing one from a friend I decided to bite the bullet last year. Should have got one sooner 😊 I found out that reading is a lot easier. No more carrying around heavy books! The font size is always right. And while traveling it is great to read in environments with dimmed lights, such as an airplane. Another surprise is that I am now switching between multiple books at any time. A chapter of a nonfiction book in the morning, a chapter of a novel before bedtime. More variation to suit my mood. Nice video, I will follow the channel 👍

I LOVE physical books in high school I was that one kid that used to go to the library at lunch and just devour books, didn’t care what I read I just loved reading. But I just can’t read them anymore and they take up so much space, on the flip side I absolutely ADORE my e-reader, being able to plug into the biggest library of books ever and with just a few pounds be reading something new is amazing For a long time I stopped reading entirely until I finally picked up a kindle and re-kindled that long dormant love of it.

I used to read from traditional books but i have been an ereader user since Christmas 2015. It is really helpful for me because I am severely sight impaired and can not read my traditional books anymore. I started with the 2015 kindle paperwhite then for my birthday in 2019 my nan and gramps purchased me a kindle oasis. This year I have been on more of a budget so I have had to changed to kobo as in the the uk where I live you can not borrow from the library on the kindle like you can in the US. where as now I have a kobo I can borrow ebooks and audio books from my local library. I'm trying to work out now wheather to purchase one of the new papaerwhites because my original paperwhite is not working anymore. I dont really want to have to purchase all of the books that I have in my kindle library again to be able to read them on my kobo.

Reading on my phone with the screen inverted (black background, white text) is my favorite way to read. The inverted screen with the brightness turned down makes eye fatigue virtually nonexistent, and the small size of the phone allows it to just sit in the palm of my hand as I read and also fit in my pocket with me everywhere I go. Definitely the most comfortable and convenient way to read as far as I’m concerned. I’ve never really understood the point in getting a Kindle.

Reading on your phone is super convenient, for sure! My first ebooks were read on a phone...in fact, I read the entire Games Trilogy in my first iPhone! The screen was so small compared to my galaxy note 20 ultra! Ah, the memories! Have you ever read on a dedicated eReader? If not, I suggest giving it a try--the difference may shock you! In fact, I actually covered this exact topic in this short video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q8uEORA5c2A.html. But it's all my opinion, of course! I love doing all 3, physical, audio, and ebook. I dont have eReader but i use a tablet for the convenience of it. I have +100 ebooks. I can take them on the go. I love audiobooks too, its also convenient when im doing chores or browsing on the internet, and among other things. And lastly with physical books, i have limited myself with what i have due to space. I have maybe 30 or less. I just reread them whenever im with my dog outside. Plus they dont get affected by weather; +90° degree or very cold winter unlike my tablet. And it also helps me get off my phone/tablet screen so i dont get eye strain. Plus if i took my tablet outside, i would have to deal with the glare.

(2:01) Nice! For me, I read almost exclusively on a paper tablet (focused UXs, like on regular e-readers, don't work for me with the level of autism that I have), with the exception being for books only released in print*. I read digitally due to a lack of space at home, especially in the previous flat I lived in, though I have a little bit of space now where I'm prioritising print-only releases that I really want. *Publishers who do this include Drawn & Quarterly, Flying Eye Books, and Bog Eyed Books, as well as David Fickling Books to a certain extent. I like watching videos like these to see how other people read on their e-readers, their reading interests, and their reading habits. (5:22) This reminds me of how my nephews seem to be more interested in videogames than books, so they recognise popular book series, but not the lesser known stuff I tend to gravitate towards. Not to mention, I seem to prefer fiction books aimed at children, as I can't handle the kinds of plots that are in fiction books aimed at adults, and I prefer stuff that has visuals, for reasons I can't easily explain. (5:35) I too dreamt of a grand, huge mansion sized library, but I'll never be able to live that dream in real life, just in my imagination, and I've just been reminded of my plans to start a 'Booktube' channel of my own. (6:05) I believe that's if all the books were regular novels (plain text with little to no illustrations). For me, I primarily read comics, so I can't store as many books on my tablet. To add insult to injury, I'm upgrading to a new BOOX Note Air2 with no memory card slot, so I'm keeping my old Likebook Mimas because it has a memory card slot. Some reading apps, like Kindle and Play Books, support downloading to a memory card on Android, but not Kobo nor Libby.

I almost worship books, the democratization of knowledge they brought. To me, they are practically synonymous with civilization. I even love the smell of some chemical american libraries use on their stock (presumable to suppress mold or something) - second-hand ex-library books I used to buy via one of many used book online exchanges always had that smell. But mass market paperbacks always try to close. If you "crack tham open2 (which I hate), they often fall apart. Thick, heavy hardcovers hit me on the nose more than one while reading them in bed. If you want to annotate them, there is no other way than defacing their margins. And I cannot easily look up unfamiliar geographic or historical reference or a word from a strange jargon or vernacular. A few years ago I read a favorable review of a particular book, and I remembered I bought it - it should be somewhere on my double-stacked bookshelves. I located it 8it was a not too large hardcover), dusted it off and started reading. After twenty or so pages I could not take the unwieldy object any more: I reached for my Kindle (first gen Voyage just became my "daily driver"), located the book in the store, bought it and continued reading. Aaaah, that's better! I still keep all DTBs I amassed, and occasionally peruse those of coffee-table style that do not lend themselves readily to Kindle, but when I want to re-read a novel of a text-based non-fiction, I acquire it in e-book format. And, although my bookcases have more than thirty meters of tightly packed shelf space, my 200 grams of pocket fitting Kindle contains more.

Might get one next year with the 32 storage. Waiting for both a job and to be able to get the new color Kindle that's coming out soon. I think sometime late this year or mid to late next year. I want to swap out the bulk of my personal library to e-books and audios. Also want to donate the books I replace to a library. My eyes are going too, just a little bit. Which means that small print is blurry, especially in the morning. Ugh. So, the Kindle is definitely for me when I can afford it.

As soon as I hit 40 my eyes started going down hill, so I feel your pain! Kindle solves that problem! If cost is an issue, the base Kindle does a great job. Remember, your ebook and audio library are stored on the cloud, so you only need to store on the Kindle the books you are currently reading/ listening to. Good luck!

@@onemanbookclub2585 Thanks. Hopefully I'll get a job soon. Being unemployed is no fun...so is being employed, but at least there's money.
