It never fails. Every time I'm trimming my nose hairs, I quote the beginning of this scene. Whether I'm alone or not. Whether the other person knows this movie or not. Every. Time. "Honey, why is it that Chet's kids look at him like he's Zeus, and my kids look at me like I'm a rack of yard tools at Sears?" .... and if they respond with anything....I reply, "Put a cork in it, honey. I"m talking business." Every. Time. The looks I get. Worth it.
This is one of the big reasons I miss John Candy. He really did those nice father son moments well. That's how I could see him with his own kids in real life. On the one hand understanding his teenage son just wants to do his own thing while in a different place, so he lets him. But still, being a dad and reminding him of what is important.
I was about same age and still watch these movies over the crap that is out today. these are real family, comedy movies, really funny, great movie characters, just true classics. I will watch these movies til whenever God calls me to go to heaven. I will still watch it even in heaven lol
I've loved this movie since I was a kid too! I'm 35 now and still love this movie. My first vehicle was a Jeep Grand Wagoneer because I saw it in this movie and wanted one ever since. It's also the movie that first made me a huge fan of John Candy.
I bought a boat from the guy who bought this boat from a guy on bass lake who had the boat after they filmed the movie, the boat I bought had suck my wake's motor in it, he parted out the Sanger about 12-14 years ago, he lived around the corner from me and had it sitting in his yard. He said they built more than 1 boat for the movie, he might a had the one that sat on the ramp lol
I try to tell people about this missing clip and nobody believes me! It was on my VHS which I do not have anymore, but not on my DVD which I do have. "Thought you said I had an inch?" "Well you did, you used it." Someone needs to post this clip as living proof that it does exist.
I HAVE THIS MISSING SECTION IT'S SHOWN ON UK TV VERSION ONLY.IT'S NOT ON VHS,DVD,BLUE RAY BECAUSE JOHN CANDY REFERES TO THE COPAS A JERK I TAPED IT OFF AIR IN THE UK
2:18 That's Dan's hand and leg, I know because his character Roman wears a pinky ring on dis right hand. 2:39 That's John Candy's hand and leg. You can tell because you can see the blue sleeve of his shirt and the shoe is different.
This movie is an absolute classic and will forever remind me of my Dad. We once taped the movie on our VCR just to watch the exploding bear butt hair scene near the end.
We christened my dad's boat "Suck My Wake" about 15 years ago. Huge letters across the stern. It's hilarious how many people get it. Gas stations, rolling down the interstate, just sittin' at the beach.
Good evening. How's it going? Listen, girls... uh... as your father, I feel it incumbent upon me to set the record straight on the validity of the tale which Uncle Chet shared with us this evening. I know that a terrifying story like that coming from the mouth of a recognized authority figure could be traumatizing for kids like yourselves; I know that, because I had a similar experience with my uncle Roy and a story he used to tell, about a family who went into the woods and was attacked by a band of escaped Army psychiatric patients who'd been subjected to violent, hellish, torturous behavior-modification experiments. It seems they escaped from the metal boxes the Army kept them in, found his family in the woods, fell upon them, slaughtered them and ate them. Now that story - phew - it gave me nightmares not to be believed. Well I thought that Uncle Chet's story upset you in the same way. I'm here to say that there actually is NO bear, and that all that Uncle Chet was saying was just a yarn... spinning for our... entertainment. And even if there were a bear out there, I'm in the house. To protect you. So uh... no more thinking about bears. Alright? No more thinking about unpleasant things. We're gonna close our eyes and dream about nice things. About cuddly, soft, fluffy things. Okay? Super. Good night. Sleep tight.”
What happened to the part where they get the boat stuck and then it falls off the trailer. This [art is on my VHS but missing from my DVD, I hate it when they do that.
😒 i think that the freeform network needs to show these 2 movies on their channel , wich are the great outdoors & one crazy summer or maybe tbs needs to---thats if the freeform don't.
It’s probably nothing to worry about. Like most other remakes it will come, fail, and then disappear into obscurity where it belongs. Don’t forget, they also turned Uncle Buck into a sitcom and it failed epically, went away immediately and no one has ever really talked about it. 😂
