I live near the Elwa, the first biggest dam removal in US history..... It's fn amazing! Salmon DNA is being found way up past where they can swim. Feeding the cathedral old growth forests once again. Okay we lost a road and a campground....... But that just makes more wilderness.......

Besides the loss of power they Killed the Klamath River with Millions of tons of clay silt and Heavy Metals! The salmon could not get above the location of Copco Dam due to a 31 foot lava dam just upstream from Copco #1 Dam before the dams were built.

A lot of power customers were also charged for this on their monthly bill. My thoughts are only those who wanted dam removal should have paid!

how are you going to replace all that electricity? or is it just too bad for do without ower?

They stations don’t produce electricity anymore. They’re tiny stations in comparison to modern technology. 120 year old technology doesn’t exactly age well.

The water quality and fish habitat restoration is more important than the small amount of power these dams produced.

I'm wondering why they insist on the slower, more expensive removal process, after all, they completely removed a dam on the Sandy and let the earthen coffer dam fail just before a storm was to hit the watershed, overnight the sediment was washed away and river restored.

Because the Klamath river is way bigger and way different than the Sandy river. Years of studies have gone into this project. All rivers are different and respond differently, especially when 4 dams are all being removed at the same time.

The Klamath doesn’t have the Columbia a few miles downstream to help remove sediment from the water. Sediment in water kills fish.
