I went to law school in Delaware right outside of Philly and the best class I took was organized crime. The prof was the assistant US attorney who prosecuted all of the big Philly mob cases in late 80s and 90s. It was amazing. Personally, I never did any of the reading because you didn’t need to. It was just show up for an hour of mob story time. Like firsthand stuff you’re never gonna see or hear. So great

You just assumed that with nothing to back it up. Everything the FBI does for the investigation has to be backed up by evidence. They can't operate based on what someone's grandmother tells them she heard at the potluck church dinner. And you can't go up to the people that you suspect are in the organization and ask them to please tell you who everyone is and what role they play. They tend not to cooperate, no matter how nicely you ask them.

I figured they were gonna talk about Phil "The Chicken Man" Testa, who took over after Bruno got whacked, and who got blown up himself on his front porch a year later, but they skipped right over that to Scarfo and then Stanfa... Oh well, still a good video, nice work. Also, I always laugh when I hear someone say that being made makes you untouchable... There are plenty of "made men" currently pushing up daisies. It doesn't really protect you, all it does is assure retribution to your killer and even that doesn't always happen.
@billymarino4452

Interesting thing is a few years ago I read an article in the NY Post or Daily News that said more and more guys are deciding to remain associates, rather than become made. That's not to say guys still don't get straightened out; but it's just not as attractive as it was say forty years ago. I think the fact that the mob isn't as violent as it used to be makes the "untouchable" status of made men relatively moot. Violence can still happen but the mob won't kill anyone these days unless they really need to (for example, they can prove a member is an informant). Plus, if you stay an associate, you are technically not a member of an organized criminal family, so proving a RICO case can be more challenging. If you are convicted of RICO, you are toast.
@devious187
@devious187 2 года назад
@@billymarino4452 Yes, RICO pretty much ended the glory days of the mob. Now you got guys flipping and using the FBI as a retirement plan, even though most of the older guys just give the feds murders that were done by people who are already dead. Pretty clever, actually.
