I've watched Static Shock deal with racism, homelessness, and bullying. If they bring back this show (and they should), I'd like to see episodes about drug addiction, STD's, and abusive relationships.
I always loved that moment in "Static in Africa" where Virgil talks about his experience as a young black man--how he's not a "black kid" there in Africa, just a kid. That kind of issue, about the subtle ways you might see yourself as different even in your own home due to race or heritage, doesn't get mentioned in children's TV shows often.
...Damn, I miss Static. I don't care if the "Hip Kid" schtick is out of date, by this point. I saw that show deal with... Bullying, homelessness, racism, age gaps, and even gun violence...
Phil Lamarr voices Static in this awesome series becides voicing Green Lantern in Justice League, Aquaman in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Ozzy in Ozzy and Drix, and Samurai Jack in Samurai Jack! ❤
Static shock is without a doubt the best TV show from my childhood it not only had amazing action a hero who used his brain instead of punching his way out of everything a different villain with cool superpowers every week and it dealt with some pretty serious issues racism, gang violence, homelessness, school shootings, dyslexia bullying, lost loved ones. This show was truly ahead-of-its-time.
