It's an English language production so everyone speaks English and since it's not in modern era, they have a British accent. Surely you're not new to this, it has been like this for ages. If you want Russian, then watch a Russian production.
Someone, please, tell me- why? WHY is this show so underrated?! The dialogue, the comedy, the timing, the character development, the plot- quite literally everything about this show was fantastic without measure. We simply need MORE of this kind of TV!
Going into this show as a historian I was prepared to be greatly let down and annoyed. In fact, it's pretty fantastic, when you regard it as separate to the real history
Russian here, indeed nothing in common. Russia portrayed as a crowd of people one weirder than another, when in fact people were shy reserved and religious
As being part Russian and closely related to that culture, I thought that it will be “another American show”, but it is in fact so sarcastic, funny and true
Not even close to truth, completely bullshit, they choose Russia , cause there is no shame to redicule it. If producers would film it about Royal family with all their sins, these producers would be ashamed heaviliy. That's "freedom" in our lovely West. This series shows actually the British behavior of CHAVS, etc on streets nowdays, it is called FUN (((
Omg I just started watching and this is absolutely BRILLIANT! From the cast to the screenplay to the sets and the music - I have no idea why people aren't making a bigger fuss about this show! ❤️
I absolutely love this show mann 😂❤ It’s so funny and serious at the same time. Absolutely love the character choices, can’t wait to get to season 2! 🥰
@@shannonlao1739 I believe that they both were of German descent. He at least partially, she was fully German. So they probably both spoke German, they at least had that in common. I also think that French would have been used at court.
@@gdbssa Actually, both Catherine and Peter were Prussian, so it is highly unlikely that they spoke Russian in private. Both knew Russian and German, but the most likely assumption is that they spoke French in court.
I m Interested to see this - Katharina the great as a historical figure is so admirable. Her vaccination campaign especially . When the pox vaccine was new she took it herself early on . She d brought the doctor in , a foreigner, and had a horse carriage wait outside so that the doctor would get away safely should something go wrong and happen to the emperess. Admirable and honorable as few of them came
This show is so addicting it’s not the type of show you can do other things while watching it sucks you in I’m 4 episodes in after just discovering it I DIDNOT ASK FOR THIS
This show is a big slap on the face of Russian history and on the face of the Romanov’s who are still alive I’ve watched it for 10 min and it was more than enough for me
I have a feeling this movie is a success! Our Russian history, of course, was bloodier and more terrible, but it is better to see it in this interpretation.
As a Russian who just watched Russian show about Ekaterina the Great, I found this show annoying but at the same time funny. Too bad people will only watch this crap.
the real story can be much more scintillating and comical without making Cathrine (Sophie Friederike Auguste) look like a fool. but as satire, it is fun to watch...
Its hilarious how much work they put into this series yet they never learned the difference between a 'macaroon' and a 'macaron'....two totally different cookies. Only one of which is actually french and used over...and over...in this show yet never pronounced correctly once.
Yes, it was made in 2020. Also, those people of colour were astonishing travellers before the age of plains, trains, and passenger ships. I wonder where they went just before cameras became wide spread.
Maybe I could Hate Watch this for the comedy, AND Elle Fanning & Nicholas Holt? Please tell me: is it at least amusing? PLEASE!!! Because, it's certainly nothing like Ekaterina (2014).
its pretty much what you see in the trailer here plus some intrigue and general batshit moments scattered throughout it's like a Monty Python history co-written by Larry David
Because no one in the west would watch it if it had unknown Russian actors with Russian accents. And most well-known American actors can't pull off a convincing Russian accent. If you want Russian accents, watch Russian films.
Nahh pass this one I can’t find anything that I like this days 😂 I just done the Ozark and I hate the end and waiting for Yellowstone! I was watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and for some reading the firsts 4 episode of season 4 just not like it and I stop watching!
This TV series has all excellent elements but the script unfortunately , the script is so ridiculous and rude, it is so sad to see it becomes a very disappointing work and waste of all resources. I think Ekaterina (2014 Russian) is much better work, but l really feel the performance of Elle Fanning is just as great as Marina Andreevna.
This is a disgrace. An insult to the Orthodox faith and Russian culture and history. There is a limit between funny and offensive and they have crossed it for sure.
It is not a documentary, it is a historical fiction comedy. Do you know the difference? Maybe the producers of the Vikings cast all Scandinavians instead of Australians, Irish and English.
@@superjeniusproductions1650 it would be great yes, because for me they are using Russian history as a plot but dont respect it at all, yeah I would like that if americans take inspiration from European history then they should at least respect it enough to do at least the accent andf overall do these real people who lived once in this planet justice, , also as a history student I am really offended sometimes how they depict those historical figures, look how Anne Boleyn is been depicted....now people think that she was a vixen who was a s*ut basically...she was NOTHING like how she is depicted in Tudors or this new BLACK Anne is totally offensive they were REAL people, with real tragedies and we make fake stories up about them...I would turn aound in my grave if someone would lie about me after I am dead, so yeah as a history student I HATE how some of these people are depicted, they would hate it as well I am sure
Umm... Taking things a tad seriously..? It's a comedy romp through history, in a well worn tradition, and not pretending to be anything it isn't...... Lighten up a smidgen...
