'A 30-mile long route running between Callander in the east and Inversnaid at Loch Lomond in the west, taking in scenery, loch shores, hill slopes, mature woodlands, wildlife and history.'
Today we set off on a long weekend to hike the Great Trossachs Path.
We get the trail from Glasgow to Tarbet and then catch the ferry over to Inversnaid where the trail begins.
Climbing up initially, we eventually reach the top which offers great views over Loch Lomond and the munros beyond.
Hiking on along the trail we walk through Glen Arklet along Loch Arklet before coming to Loch Katrine.
Walking along the path we come across many information boards with insightful historical information. Very interesting indeed!
Eventually we stumble across an area to camp that is too good to pass up. Wildcamping for the night, we get a good nights rest for our longer walk tomorrow to Callander.

Hi Hounds, I almost choked when you brought out that sausage dong, but your dead right about the etiquette of getting your laughing gear around the monster! lol. Back yesterday from the NW after reaching Cape Wrath. The last few miles I joined up with a bloke just finishing the CW trail. We got talking about you and your videos on the CW Trail. He stayed in the bunkhouse at the lighthouse, while I tried to get back to Durness around the head of The Kyle of Durness. I got as far as Daill , near the Ferry House, before fatigue and the effects of 28 miles set in. That night I also had some bird/bat screeching all night as well as a fecking cuckoo looking to get some. Looking foward to part two. Cheers OJ

Great vid as always. Love your enthusiasm and interest in everything. Bin following BTO's Tracked Cuckoos for a few years now. They're bloomin' amazing! They live in sub-Saharan Africa and then fly 1000's of miles North when they think you'll be out wild camping. Only stay about 8-9 weeks and then fly all the way back again! Think kindly of them next time, unless you're a small bird with a huge chick you're suspicious of the parentage of? ;-)

Hounds of Howgate It’s not something I’d like to be accused of. Where’s your first walk after lockdown is lifted?
@HoundsofHowgate
@HoundsofHowgate 4 года назад
Hmm, not sure but I have quite a few in mind. Gonna have to get some short days in though as there has been zero hiking done and much much Guinness drank for it seems as long as I can remember now; I think I'm gonna be in for a wee bit of a surprise when I get back out there! 🍻🚷👣=😬 😂🐾👍

Hounds of Howgate Man, I hear that. I’ve tried to lay off the beer but I’ve been drinking a fair bit of gin. Managed a sneaky hike up Meikle Bin yesterday, trying to keep up my fitness. My hips are a bit stiff but everything else is fine, surprisingly. Hopefully this’ll be lifted by Thursday.
@HoundsofHowgate
@HoundsofHowgate 4 года назад
To be fair I think everyone will be in the same boat. Like a collective mass loss of fitness and weight gain! Really weird times. So aye, I hope it lifts cos it's defo not good! It's just too easy to treat it like some kind of novel situation and so it's almost like okay in a way to give yourself permission to do things you wouldn't normally: like drinking Guinness every day!

"There's a shadow on the door of a cottage on the shore of a dark Scottish lake." Ahhh...So now I know that singer "Sting" borrowed those words for the title track of the album Synchronicity. Last album to be released by the band The Police.
@HoundsofHowgate
@HoundsofHowgate 4 года назад
Ah, so that Sting one has been at it again! Although Sir Walter Scott should have known that technically it should have been loch: there's only 2 natural lakes in Scotland (and 7 man made ones). Lady of the Loch might not have had the same ring to it as Lady of the Lake though, I suppose. 🙂🐾👍

Another cracking video John. Good to see you and moss out and about. Its wild wallabies on the island on loch Lomond and cookoo's migrate from southern Europe and Africa. Is that a new osprey sack you've got yourself, I love the osprey packs but they are expensive. Looks a cracking route your doing
@HoundsofHowgate
@HoundsofHowgate 5 лет назад
Cheers! Haha, aye, wallabies, not Kuala Lumpur's then 🤣👍 Yeah, it's the Exos 58L in medium. The black one I had I gave away because the back was too long for me. I got it on the interwebs and thought a large would be fine (Blacks only stocked the large), but it would get uncomfortable 10 miles plus. I really like the features the Exos has and the back system, so decided to get another for this season. I save my Zpacks Arc Zip for longer hikes where I'm really focusing on pack weight. Then I have my waterproof Mountain Hardware SouthCol 70L for winter. Plus by smaller Berghaus Freeflow 40L for day hikes. I'm kinda obsessed with finding the perfect rucksack for different tasks.

I found that they have a really great wee map showing you where you can and can't camp without a permit: www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/rr-content/uploads/2017/09/Camping-map-for-web.jpg Hope that helps! 👣🐾👍
