The Great War affected all in 1917, sons and fathers went to war, while those who were unable stayed behind, working to fuel the war machine. There had been nothing like this conflict in history up to that point, and in 1917, America joined the fight.
While history rightfully talks mostly of the horrors of war in the Atlantic and in Europe, attention to the home front also deserves a look. As the able bodied men of the family were off serving for the Stars and Stripes, others stayed behind, protecting the home front, and in the pine tree state, the Maine 3rd National Guard did just that. Protecting important infrastructure, primarily railroads, from enemy sabotage. Once a year at the Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway Museum, we remember these brave men, and keep their stories alive.
Join us for this annual event this weekend, May 18th & 19th to see history recreated, as Maine’s 103rd Regiment Living History gives a glimpse into what life was like all those years ago.
For more information about the event and tickets, please visit our website, wwfry.org, we look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!

It's because of brave men and women of both the railroads and are armed forces that lead us the victories of both The war to end all wars and world war II and I cannot say thank you enough to these fine people of one of the greatest generations and thank you to railroad and the people who made this reenactment possible and to the iron horses that helped us as well.
