As a kid we lived near the festival, two young men knocked and asked for shelter from the rain, amazingly Dad said they could stay in the empty garage the next night they slept on the front room floor and Mum made them supper. They were very nice.

I was a 20 year old hitch hiking Yankee from California when I stumbled on this event on day 1...what a great memory. 4 months later I was drafted into the U.S. Army ...oh well.

I was there, there lineup was better than Woodstock in hindsight. Weather didn't cooperate but I found a cozy spot in a barn near the stage with Norwegian and Canadian girls. Never realized just how lucky I was.

@@GenesisMuseum not one. I went to do many places between the ages of 18 and 21 and have nothing to show for it. So much for the flippant life.

@@GenesisMuseum no sorry such a long time ago now, we met Rod Stewart and the Faces at their caravans behind the the stage, a friend who was with us used to play the Kongas with the Faces and we got to see them, there was a lot of gear being used too so we could'nt remember half of it..

I have the free floppy record. Don’t know where I got it from. I was with a mate from Leeds. 14 years old and hitch hiked there

Strange that the backing music to this piece was Cum On Feel The Noize, released in 73 when the festival was in 1972 Wish I'd been there for Slade's legendary perormance.

Yes, maybe recorded a fair bit later the same year, and Look North were looking at the recording date! The earlier, slightly soundalike single Mama Weer All Crazee Now still wasn't out until late summer '72. Also a burst of Virginia Plain (not released for another month or so), though maybe Roxy played it?

Slade and Lindisfarne were the acts who really got the audience going. The weather, rip off food and lousy bogs had made it a fairly dour affair. First Slade bullied the audience into sitting up and taking notice, a bit later Lindisfarne did there usual magic and turned their set into a party. At some point John Peel put Dr Who over the PA and the crowd got a bit silly!

Yep, I was there....remember beach boys...think they started with 'heroes and villains'.......but don't reckon they had a great reception...although I loved 'em, rod Stewart and the faces, Monty python. And think Slade headlined\ended with straw bales flyling around in the rain...

I policed the festival 52 years ago from West Yorkshire.... Police there from all over including Thames Valley drug squad. I stayed at RAF Swinderby for 3 days.. Lots of memories.. mainly referring to class A drugs and rain and mud..
@GenesisMuseum

Did you show up on the film?
@SunofYork
@SunofYork 2 месяца назад
@@GenesisMuseumNope that wasn't me... We were there to help people and we did...eg stopping criminals going into the tents and stealing.... The undercover drug squads were doing their thing separately and the 'bad trip tent' was an eye-opener. We learned about women when we were in the Vampire Bar at RAF Swinderby. We were doing alright with the women until there was the roar of jets landing and the pilots came in and all the women left us and flocked to them... When the Romans landed in England it was the same. The English women got topless and went over to the enemy.... The English men were slaughtered and the women survived. I have been divorced twice but came out well coz I was aware of how it works... We were West Yorkshire Police and were also used in South Yorkshire in the 1972 (Heath) coal strikes. I kept Thorpe Marsh Power Station open so the hospital had power... I was spat on continuously and shoved under an articulated lorry.... Fun days...
