This interview recorded in 2013 features Kron Gracie looking back at his epic match against Garry Tonon at ADCC In Beijing, China.
This fight will go down as one of the greatest ADCC matches of all time.
Garry was relatively unknown at the time but the Jiujitsu world would soon know his name after impressive performances against Kron, Cyborg Abreu and Buchecha.
Kron had an amazing performance that year submitting every one of his opponents to become the ADCC -77kg Champion.
He won his first match against Andy Wang by Rear Naked Choke and then went on to submit Garry Tonon by RNC in his second match.
In the Semi Final Kron submitted JT Torres by Armbar and then finished Otavio Souza by Guillotine in the final.
Kron Gracie is one of the few fightersin ADCC to finish all of his opponents by submission.

I was sitting next to tonnons mum. I talked to him after the match. His mum was literally the only person he came with him to Beijing. He said he had no idea that there were only a few seconds left on the clock. Had he known, he wouldn't of tapped.

Its krons advantage over others to grow up Gracie to have a dad who the best bjj praticioner ever one of.....and for kron to grow up all his life training bjj and learning weird tricks and having the knowledge of the Gracie fighting dynasty to pick from and learn from its a distinct advantage so to have the pressure of Rickson krons father at side of mat where krons competing I would say isnt much pressure the pros out weigh the cons with regards to krons father Rickson being mat side at krons bjj matches.... Surely of thing it creates at awesome air of invicibilty in the minds of krons opponent regarding krons air of invinibilty

This fight is one of the best of all time. What a match. Kron on that day was on point in every thing he did. Fuck it was the most amazing performance I saw in ADCC, one of the most in Jiu Jitsu. He dominated his opponents flawlessly. It was great. I'm really sad that he stopped competing because he was dope. His jiu jitsu is so good to watch.

Why? To see him brag about his fake 400 + wins against white belts. This guy was the biggest poser of bjj history. When he could actually test himself for real he decided to hide behind wins over fat Japanese dudes. That was great. I have been there by the way. Wrestling in World Cup Down 4 point against the Russian right off the start, ground to tie over 5 mins. Graced with OT to sudden death. Got the score. I felt the exact same mate. I did not give up and kept fighting. I was proud and lucky to pull it off. Do Jujitsu now in my latter year, thank God I found Jujistsu.

If it felt like a trick it was a trick. You just have to take the man at his word. Watching and experiencing are two completely different things. Don’t get tricked by your eyes.

abraham medhin I totally agree. I see this match as a new vs old world bjj in a sense. Either way the match was thrilling and hearing Kron speak to the ethos of pushing yourself past your limit is def inspiring.

Every single time the Gracies have lost, from Royce to Royler to Sakuraba beating all of them to Marcelo beating Kron to Eddie beating Royler AGAIN, they have refused to acknowledge the loss, made up pitiful excuses, taken steroids, and most importantly, refused under any circumstances to improve their actual jiu jitsu. They believe their famous name is far more important than skill itself, and that has been their downfall - there are literally blue belts training with Danaher right now who could tap almost every Gracie. Like Keenan said, Rickson and Helio at their best were maybe at the level of a purple belt today, and that is being generous. The sport has evolved so much, but the Gracies have refused to, and that is why they have become irrelevant on the competitive stage. Though they once legitimately taught grappling, now all they teach is a lesson on what NOT to do in martial arts - they serve as the bad example everyone else would be wise to avoid at all costs.
