It was funny because the 49ers at one time could count on Montana as the starter with Steve Young as *backup.* I liked Young when he became the starter. He had it rough because the fan base was not happy about the Montana trade. Anytime anything went wrong in a football game, you know the QB gets the worst of it whether or not he had anything to do with it. Young was no exception. Fans would say things like, "Montana wouldn't have made that mistake." Steve Young played like he had something to prove and I loved it. The only time he got really accepted by the fans was when he became a champion in '94. When that Super Bowl game was nearing its end, he asked one of his teammates to rip off an imaginary monkey off his back. He was no longer going to be living under Montana's shadow.
