wow hadn't realised this would create so much interest. This engine blow was done in Invercargill New Zealand. We are car wreckers and mechanics. We blow one or two a year because the car is old or can't be fixed or is not worth fixing. We have no government subsidised schemes for removing cars like this from NZ however this one did get broken up for recycling and shipped either to China or Malaysia. As far as pollution goes, in the grand scheme of things i think nil global impact.
Well, I'm actually impressed. Most videos on here are just of people draining the oil and coolant, then revving the nuts off the engine until it overheats and seizes. This is quite clearly a blown engine though. At least some people know how to do it right!
Sudden increase due to three things. 1) Piston rings go - less friction on sides of cylinder and piston. 2) Oil begins to burn - dieseling = more power. 3)Although oil lubricates and cools metal parts, it needs to be pumped and splashed - no oil, less load on engine. Combine all three and RPM increase until rod snaps, head blows, or some other cool thing happens.
we could not put this car back on the road, gearbox faulty, car very rusty. We have very strict rules here on rust and the car was worth nothing even if we had fixed the gearbox.
As those wonder if their vehicle was worth more as scrap steel when they send it off with a bang when those put a brick on the accelerator when it was begging for mercy against the rev limiter until it had blown up.
thats very true, I'm not real sure where these guys filmed but i know in America engines getting blown up like this will happen every now and again and its really just because its a next to dead engine and they have nothing else to do.

well I'm going to report it to the principal at the tech center i parked my truck at while i was away on the trip "the whole automotive class went on the trip" and the kids from the electrical course most likely got the bright idea to break into it.the idiots are in hot water already and this will kick the rest of them out for sure at this rate if it was them.

i heard the mazda tribute was made by Ford, mazda it's self is it's own company. ford and mazda do partner up on ocassion i don't know in this case though
the damaged engine or gearbox or whatever it is can always be fix as long as the engine starts... mechanics is born to heal cars not to destroy it, for them this is entertainment, but for me, hmmm i dont think this is fun.. maybe they could still sell the intact parts if they want to dump this car not to scream her like hell....anyway nice engine,..
if its not worth it to the owner and they want this to happen then by all means they can do it all damn day for all i care, i am currently a mechanic in training at the moment but i sure would love to find an old rusted up engine that has reached the end of its life pull it from the scrapyard or junkyard get it running and let it scream before its life is ended.personally i want my engines to go out with a bang when i know that they are done for and nothing can save it.

I had an 84 Ford Granada that my dad gave me as a field car as a kid that I tried to blow up. Even dumped moth balls in the gas tank. I managed to blow the oil filter off the block, but the engine wouldn't die. It would just get hot and shut down. Give it a few minutes and it would start right back up. They sure don't make them like they used to.
to a certain extent yes, but as i just now noticed I murdered that sentence.Thats what i get for posting really late at night or right when i have just woken up.
sometimes it just not worth the effort or the hassle when you could blow it up get some entertainment out of it and you can have a better understanding of what happens when a engine blows up.
Should have done that to my 81 Dodge Omni 20 years ago. What a POS that car was. The 84 Cavalier I got afterwards was no better and I ended up wounding it's motor with 2 neutral drops and a lead foot till a rod started to knock. The mains had been knocking since the 2nd neutral drop. If a car is a POS I'll then I'll treat it like shit. Same for any other mechanical or electronic item I'll beat it to death if it keeps fucking up!
i know...but it hurts because i have sooo many friends in desperate need of any type of transportation.... and I can't watch the cash for clunker videos...i actually throw up... my friend turned in his car, which was in GREAT shape, got his 4500.00 and bought drugs with it and in 2 days the drugs were all gone.... they destroyed his good car for nothing...
