Game finished early October 18th, 1994 - my dad’s 40th birthday. I was 8 years old, and couldn’t stay up for the ending. The next morning, Dad told me all about how Joe Cool won it at the end, and how awesome it was to see our Chiefs finally win at Mile High. Dad passed away earlier this year. He got to see 2 Chiefs Super Bowls, though. Pretty cool.
Trading Joe Montana to you has become a curse. Since we traded Joe Montana we've only won once Super Bowl in 30 years wow former 49er quarterbacks somehow end up in Kansas City? The curse of Joe Montana
I know the feeling…and my Dad was a die hard gang greener…but, he was also an old school AFL representative so he always had an affinity for the original AFL squads (except the Raiders 😂) Miss you pop, love you. RIP to your Dad…glad he got to see his boys get their chips again.
@@kevinstewart8054 plenty of great matchups, this person just loves this game. So they're having a pseudo sexual experience over it. Very good game, plenty of other great games too
Legendary game. I remember I was 11 and my dad let me stay up late to watch it. Even as a kid, I knew this was special and couldn’t miss what happened.
This was one of the greatest MNF games of all time. You had two great QBs just duelling it out. Montana looked and played a bit hobbled in this one and willed the Chiefs to victory. It was a thrilling night for everyone involved.
Top 10 MNF game ever. Maybe top 5. This was such an awesome gem then, and now. Definitely lived up to the hype from start to finish. I'll always remember Neil Smith getting hyped on the sideline with his backwards hat when Montana hit that final TD strike. Even when he went to the Chiefs, I was still a Montana fan to the max. On, and off the gridiron he just always seemed so smooth, and cool. Simply the best. 90's NFL was simply the best.
Crazy how the NFL always throw on these throwback games for certain matchups. Let's see if tonight's game ends in a similar fashion with Russell fumbling at the end of the game
I was a freshman in high school and I lived with my grandparents at the time. I was and still am a huge Broncos fan. My grandma insisted that I go to bed but I told her the game was too good to go to sleep. She came back to me about every 10-15 minutes still insisting that I go to bed but I kept telling her no way! I wound up watching the whole game. I hated Montana so much at the time but I’ve really grown to appreciate him in the years after his retirement.
I will always remember all these players so vividly cause this is when i first started to play football on video games and their names never have left my mind.
This damn game!!! This was the first game I figured out how to record on VHS…After John scored that last TD I thought we had em!! Lol Joe also showed he still had a lot in thank left!
Throwback game requests later this season: -1983 Repus Bowl Buccaneers vs Oilers -2005 Monday night massacre Eagles vs Seahawks (defending NFC champion gets wiped by eventual NFC champion)
It's a cyclical league and both teams will rise and fall. The Chiefs really had their problems right before Andy Reid got there. The murder-suicide of their Linebacker was probably their low point. Let's face it, without Mahomes, KC is just another team.
I've watched a lot of Football... and these are some of the best passes I've ever seen in ANY era. The mechanics, decisiveness, precision not to mention every ball is a tight spiral. Somebody should have clocked Elway in his prime to see how fast he could actually throw a football. That's how you're supposed to play Quarterback.
@@Maal7432 I venture a guess that ninety-percent of the critters that display their 'Elway hate' on these forums are fans/offspring of CHIEFS, RAIDERS, BROWNS teams that Elway OWNED. Otherwise, I have never witnessed a disdain for him from folks who KNOW football!
Well said. Throws like 1:21 are just ridiculous. There have been a lot of gunslingers with strong arms in league history. Elway’s howitzer just seemed different.
I remember vividly watching this game live for the first time. I had discovered football couple years before and was just learning about the magic of Joe Cool after their AFC wildcard game against the Pitsburg Steelers and then this. Man what a treat it was.
The way Elway’s passes zipped through the air was truly special. It’s great watching slow-mo highlights of old school legends but real-time broadcast footage is the best way to appreciate them, short of being in the stadium.
@@Zack29810 But Tom Brady won 7 Super Bowls and him winning Super Bowls throughout the 2010's made me quit watching football until he left New England.
@@LiamDeege I still find it more impressive to be *undefeated* in championship games. that’s a flex. same reason why Michael Jordan will always be the GOAT over Lebron. even if Lebron ends up with more rings one day, Jordan went 6-0.
Montana lost his mobility at this stage in his career, and he never had a cannon arm. He was also injury prone. But he still had great accuracy and decision making.
Watching this, I quickly auto-regressed to relive that feeling of DOOM brought on by DC Charley Water's 'Prevent Defence'_ the final drive which sealed the fate of Son Of Bum: YOUR FIRED! (bless his ol'heart)
1990s NFL was the best before it turned into flag football one of the greatest Monday Night Football games of all time back when Monday Night Football felt special
I was working second shift in Wichita at the time. I decided to exercise the privileges of my position, and watch it in the upstairs lounge, on the big screen, and get caught up with paperwork. Everyone in the shop was listening on radio. When Denver scored their last touchdown, I thought "That's the ball game", turned off the TV, gathered my paperwork, and headed back to my desk. Only after I got back to my desk in the supervisors office, did I find out that they WON! What......? Fortunately, I saw the last 1:30 on the late "SportCenter"
@@eugenesatele9434 Chiefs are winning because their offense is a nightmare compared to Denver who clearly has not made things work at all with Russell Wilson.
I agree with you although I’m a Broncos fan. I like to face reality. The Broncos have an okay offense. Not great, of course. But their defense has been putrid. They will allow many NFL records to be broken. I call 52-16 K.C.
I was 12. My mom made me go to bed before I got to see the end of it. Back then, the Chiefs could NEVER beat Denver/Elway, especially at Mile High. Still mad that I never got to see the end of this game. Thanks mom
Like it was yesterday. I was 10, but already well aware…this game right here… was truly one for the ages… for me, it was like, the one “turn back the clock” glimpse of seeing Montana work his magic…Joe on his last run…Elway still in rare form…a young Shannon Sharpe…DT…Marcus Allen…Kimble Anders smh….Steve Atwater and allll the other notables…sheesh smh… Great throw , great sharp route ran by Willie Davis. Man! 90s football was nothing short of great! The game ended late too on the east! I miss these days, when MNF was strickly an ABC thing.
Not to demean Montana, he played great, but the Broncos defense was awful in 1994. Old and slow, it had to bring back safety Dennis Smith off the heap after a couple games to help. Denver was the last ranked defense in 94, and it showed in this game, as Montana has a clean pocket for throw after throw. Montana threw it 54 times and was never sacked. We used to joke whenever we saw defensive coordinator Charlie Waters that year, they needed to start an air raid siren.
Big willie davis showin off that big willie! Davis good jorb! Props to big willie montana throwing to big willie davis and big willie derrick thomas showing off big willie skills in this one too with his big willie! Have i mentioned will?
