You're not overexaggerating with Max, in fact I think people are underplaying it. The all-time greats in any sport create timeless moments under the brightest lights... And that's what Max did. There are guys in the UFC who will point at the canvas and slang n bang... But not the elite strikers. Suga, Izzy, Jones etc would put on a clinic and be happy with the win. None of them would dream of doing what Max did. It was insane. It's legendary stuff.
For sure. My fav moments are definitely the max moment , conor v Eddie with his hands behind his back, and izzy sleeping alex. Such iconic moments. Love this sport
@mhutch5082 don't really see Izzy KO'ing Poatan as _'iconic'._ He'd lost the previous fight by stoppage, he's 3-1 down, he went on to lose the title straight away and Alex has gone on to dwarf his achievements since that KO. I think you might just be an Izzy fanboy.

INDEED. The UFC has ruined Aspinall's prime. He needs to be fighting right now, and he should have headlined UFC 300 against Stipe for the undisputed title. Aspinall is the one who the UFC should be promoting, because he is the future of the sport. Dana is amazing, but someone needs to pull him and Hunter aside and have a serious "talk" with them. If they aren't going to promote Aspinall, they can step down as matchmakers.
Outstanding card. Had money on Max, but what a fight. That whole night was unbelievable from start to finish. Meanwhile we have boxing doing "game changers" in Saudi. No comparison.
If you were to be nit picky in the Poatan P4P chat you can argue his light heavyweight run has been a close decision against Jan and then 2 ko's over fighter coming back from nearly 2 year lay offs. That being said still a phenomenal fighter and hope we get to see him in with more of the top LHWs before heavyweight gets mentioned again
The 300 card was always going to be a great card , the only fight on the card I was uneasy with was Justin/Max I honestly thought it would be Max lying on the canvas at the end, but that's UFC cards, fights that aren't sure things, They set up classic performances by putting on fantastic match ups, not shit scared to have a potential upset of their fighter like boxing promoters. The Alex/Jamal fight, I couldn't see what people were saying about Hill, his Style was made for Alex in my book .
I had decided before this fight that the BMF title was one of the most precious, prestigious titles. Because it's one of the most difficult titles in the UFC. Most people aren't even eligible for a BMF title. Max has brought the BMF title to an even higher level. AND, Max might be unbeatable in a "BMF fight." Max should not accept a regular title fight, he needs to focus on defending the BMF.
O'Malley only has one sub to his name and that was 9 years ago. Leon has 3 but last one was 8 years ago. I'd hardly say they're two guys known for a wide variety of wins. Leon and O'Malley are both predominantly strikers just like Pereira. Only reason they have any subs to their names is because they've been at it way longer and started off with much lower competition than Pereira. Even Volk's last sub was 9 years ago. So you can hardly hold it against Alex.

No way on earth that Max knocking out Justin is a better moment than Connor knocking out Aldo in 13 seconds. No one thought Connor was going to beat Aldo, Aldo was one of the most dominant fighters of all time and Connor was one of the biggest stars the UFC had ever seen. The build up was months in the making. Nick and Adam suffer from recency bias on a weekly basis.
Brilliant review after a sensational card re the P4P conversation It is Alex for me given his body of work yes his MMA skill set is limited but surely its up to his opponents to recognise that and not attempt to keep the fight on the feet.

Bo Nickal the highlight of the night for me, and I'm a huge Blessed fan. An All American wrestler coming out of his comfort zone and dominating a decorated one-punch KO artist was pure art. A title shot is imminent.
It was a decent performance but saying he "dominated a decorated KO artist" is a stretch and you know it 🤣 Brundage wouldve been cut from the ufc 2 fights ago if it wasnt for his DQ win where he chickened out against Malkoun. And sure Bo "dominated" in the sense that Brundage did nothing but Bo didnt do much for 6-7 mins either before he latched up the sub. I dont think he beats most ppl in the top 15 that have any takedown defense, much less the elite names like Whittaker, Strickland or even Khamzat.
I just realized yesterday that Max is going to defend the BMF belt, and nobody in the UFC can actually beat him at 155 pounds in a BMF fight. He will go down in history as the BMF record holder. There are very few guys who are even eligible for a BMF fight.
I am as big of an Alex stan as there can be but the P4P conversation feels a bit prisoner of the moment. Islam's victory over Charles, a stoppage against the #4 P4P at the time and then back to back wins over the #1 P4P guy in Volk, have to mean more than Alex's wins against former champs. Outside of Izzy, none of those guys were inside the top 10 of the P4P rankings (Strickland highest at 10 and Jiri at 11) and Alex got KO'ed by Izzy just last year. Its amazing that he beat former champs but the LWH division has been cursed for sometime and are we really going to say those victories are the same all things considering? Sean beat Izzy, no defenses, Jan won a vacant LHW title, defends once against Izzy, Jiri beats Glover, no defenses, Jamahal wins a vacant title, no defenses. Alex's best win is over Izzy then and I just dont see how you could really consider him above either Islam or Jon Jones even and I hate Jon Jones. Seems a bit disingenuous and like I said prisoner of the moment and downplaying Islam is completely unnecessary as though his victories dont really stack up when you can make an even stronger argument on the same subject with Alex's victories. Again coming from a huge Alex mark myself.

This was just a perfect storm. How many fighters 3 rounds up would do that and the people forget Justin part, many people will say of course he is going to take that chance but how many people actually lay it all on the line when they down. Not many go into the fire like that they would rather lose a decision. He chose for someone to go out on their shield, not many fighters do that

Just watched volk react to the fights. It's funny he was reacting to Max Holloway call out of Islam however he didn't mention him also calling out ilia lol. Volk wants that fight back. Smart business by not even bringing it up and making it part of the narrative.
