He talks about it and that's it. No one comments on it any more, there is no explanation. The show must go on, but in this case it should stop for a while. Nguyen simply has too many stories on his hands to string them together into a coherent whole and extract any emotional depth from them. Out of context it's hilarious, but knowing who these talented pop artists are, it really dims their vocal ability when on their own songs. Cyndi Lauper and Huey Lewis sound great doing their songs.

To be fair (and for the record I'm a HUUUUGE MJ fan), Michael & Lionel wrote the thing over the days/weeks/longer leading up to the recording session, everyone else is learning it AT the midnight recording session.

They could sing. MJ already knew the song from back to front. They literally heard a skeleton version snd had to learn all their solos, duo's , harmonies etc in the moment.

You could tell Dylan was nervous and afraid to be himself. He was a folk singer who was with a bunch of young pop stars. It was very sweet to see him confide in Stevie and allow Stevie to help him. I think Dylan was surprised that they all wanted him to sing like himself. When Stevie imitated him, it shocked BD that an R&B singer knew his sound and really knew his music. It was a highlight for me at the end of the credits to hear BD finish the song.

Sheila E was one of Prince’s protégées. Her success was ultimately short-lived, but she was and is very talented.

@@TBAGTX I was initially mad at Stevie for almost derailed the whole damn thing with the Swahili request. (Which could be added in post, but shouldn't happen on the spot unless details are already ironed out.) But I loved how he helped the whole cast by rehearsing them at the piano. And when he helped Bob basically...sing like Bob...I was reminded that his last name is Wonder for a reason. It's a 'wonder' that one sole person can have all these musical gifts.
