Nice informative video. Lautaro's story must've been the inspiration for Thrall in Warcraft: Son of a Warchief, parents killed by humans, then raised by his oppressors only to learn from his race's oppressor and lead the Horde (orcs) to victory.

From the top of my head I can mention as pointers these stories: -The love and revenge story behind one of the first skyscrapers of Buenos Aires (the Kavanagh Building) -The story of "The savage" Justo José de Urquiza, his Estancia in Entre Ríos Province, and his eventual death -The story of the Quilmes people who where forced to walk from Tucumán to Buenos Aires (1.200 km) after years of ressistance -The Welsh people in the atlantic shores of the argentinian Patagonia and his friendship with the Aonikenk (tehuelche) people -The Jewish villages in Santa Fe province -The Nazis building one of the first nuclear reactors of the world in Bariloche -The curious evangelization of the natives in Misiones Province -The Malvinas/Falkland crazy war -The not so heroic acts of the mapuche's in this side of the Andes -And so on and on... But, there's plenty of things to talk about in every country I guess. I, as an argentinian, would love to see some stories being told from here to, but I think I understand what he's trying to achieve, and in order to produce good content he's taking his time. I just hope that someday he comes to Argentina and told some of our stories, this land is as "rare" as earth can get.

Stories of revenge always prompt someone(or several someones) to contribute the "dig two graves" quote in the comments. For me that quote can be used only in western countries not those Asian countries that has had big empires... Cause the difference with the mapuches and most other culture... Slavery does not exist in their culture... They where known as warrior race.. But in reality their "battle call" where actually a call too their "God" preparing themselves too kill people who they actually don't want too but have too cause too defend their land.. And the battle cry or whatever u can call it, is for themselves too not get loose ine the cruelty that is about too happend. And take note that Christianity or any of the other big religion did not exist then.
@teslagirl1
@teslagirl1 4 года назад
Not sure what you mean by "slavery does not exist in their culture". With VERY few exceptions, slavery has existed everywhere and still does...it just isn't quite as out in the open now. No auctions in the public square. But slavery is very much with us and has been so. People trafficked into sex slavery ARE slaves, bought and sold. And people are still sold as labor, even in the west, though frequently they enter as illegal immigrants, heavily in debt to their smugglers in a system where chances are, they may never be free of that "debt", though they will pay it fully dozens of times before they die...always being told they owe a bit more. And there will always be parents who feel "I can do whatever I want with my child"...and that includes selling them into slavery.

Great video as always, but... I have to ask.... Where have you been buying your bread!? Our points of reference are clearly different. I live in Britain and here you need to go out of your way for good bread, there's good baguettes... but I miss the Chilean bread variety ... I particularly miss the Hallulla bread! Not too "fluffy" but not hard or too big either. Semi-spongy, freshly baked, it's delicious, I can eat it on it's own and it's sturdy enough to hold big sandwiches if needed. This round one: fundi2.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/08hallulla.png. I also liked this other French variety, called "pan frances" or "marraqueta" depending on what part of Chile you are from, apparently its called "Sous-Brot” in France: i2.wp.com/104.207.155.101/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/07batido.png Since you don't like these... it makes me wanna try Canada's bread now! Look I respect and i know you do i for artistic reasons but the hyperbole you use by saying the conquistadors killed them is not historically accurate majority 95-99 percent died from disease and also as before the conquistador army were very small sometimes less than 100 they were supported by locals. in case of Pizarro he had thousands of locals and just a few hundred smth like 100-200 Spanish so i don't think Spanish killed them, disease and the other native peoples killed them

Valdivia is taught in the chilean system as The Least Bad Conquistador, as Diego de Almagro had directed an expedition to the place where Santiago is now but had turned back when he found no valuables (and the might of the Mapuche), therefore Valdivia has always been painted as an urban planner over a greedy conquistador (before the independance, Chile was the only spanish colony that couldnt finance itself). Another fun fact is that lots of spanish statues got defaced in the south of chile during the 18/octuber of 2019 happened

If all the Spanish died at that fort defence, who wrote down the account of what happened? Also, how can you know he was planning revenge from the very beginning and it wasnt just some event that made him rebel. Did he write memoirs before he died? How much is fact and how much is legend?
@TheWoollyFrog
@TheWoollyFrog 6 лет назад
The battle of Tucapel was not a fort defense. The fort was already destroyed when the Spaniard reinforcements got there. Jeronimo de Vivar, a contemporary historian that knew Valdivia, and other chronicler/ conquistadors (Marmolejo and Lobera) present in the region at the time wrote about what happened based on rumors and perhaps whatever information they could gather from the native allies that survived the battle and enemies that were captured at a later date. Some of the events of this war and the people are romanticised and with the absence of first hand accounts, we will never know Lautaro's motivations for sure.
@Ironbuket
@Ironbuket 6 лет назад
What is with the nitpicking? He was camped at the site of the fort, the fort he went there to defend? Even if the walls were down, he was at the fort with an intention to defend it until they had concluded their business there rather than running away. Maybe they were only burying bodies and seaching the ruins rather than rebuilding it, but they were at the fort. If I changed my original text to 'fort *ruins* defence' would that help you?
@TheWoollyFrog
@TheWoollyFrog 6 лет назад
It just wasn't a fort defense at all. He didn't get to set camp at what was left of the fort. Didn't mean to nitpick. Glad that's all you took from my comment.

The story is beautiful,but again instead of reminding us the massacres that indigenous population suffered in other parts of the continent ,why don't you tell us an equal interesting story about how English and the United States (later) managed to exterminate all indigenous tribes from Maine to Florida,and from great lakes all along the Mississippi .I guess ,after having seen South America,which contains it's indigenous populations well and integrated ,the Spanish were not as half brutal and tyranic as the British and Americans. Why don't you talk about the concentration camps that emerged during the end and at the begining of 20 Century in America's Midwest ? Before you judge someone else,try to clean your house first. All my love to all native Americans from Alaska to Chile!!!!

Here is a video that offers a pristine example of what that makes this channel unique. In this one you're telling history, straight up. You're not spending the whole video decrying the atrocities of the Spanish (though you make it plain - no sugar coating.) You stick to the story. You stay on message. And you tell me about something I'd never heard of before. Something that would never be taught in American schools. If the video had been about politics, then again you would have stuck to your subject. And very most likely said something I hadn't heard before, or that hadn't been brought out in that way before. This is what I get out of this channel. It's a different take on things. Important things, interesting things, weird things. Thank you. Personally, I think you have very good taste - at least in what makes a worthy video! :o) tavi.

Sorry but Good and Evil are not matters of perspective, actually I'm not sorry. There is absolute truth to be discovered and it indeed exists. Good and evil are matters of perspective only if you hold to a fallacious and destructive postmodern worldview. Abandon truth and you will reap chaos, confusion, and injustice. For example, just look around you at a world that rejects absolute truth and says "find your truth" or "have it your way." There is good and there is evil. It is both knowable and discernible to those willing to search it out understand.
