Also important to note: The Amazon gift cards that RiceGum gave away, were already redeemed BEFORE the "Apology" was uploaded. Yes, those $20 gift cards were like pennies to him, yet he was even too greedy for that.
@@ashikshibu3765 People literally called amazon to confirm when the gift cards were actually redeemed, which turned out to be before his "apology video" went live. He's a complete clown.
@@Caydiem he actually cleared it up on his stream and gave the codes away lmao. he really didn't scam he just doesnt care to clear it up since he doesn't really care what people say now a days.
I'll never forget when Jake sold out. Was incredibly hooked in 2021 and got me through a shitty COVID temp job binging his videos & looking forward to new ones all the time. Then heard a sponsor about an NFT and the whole "catch early on before you're the one left holding the bag" like wtf? And then to be double down on being the bag guy. Glad he's declined so much since a lesson learned indeed
Jake's behind Evil Food Supply? Damn, I knew that channel was sus. I watched a video recently regarding the "evil" side of commercial dog food. I was following along, thinking it makes sense what it was saying. Then at the end, the channel smoothly slides right on in trying to sell their own brand of dog food that was allegedly "safe" for dogs. Basically, the entire video was saying "all dog food except the brand I'm shilling at the is bad. So buy this brand instead". Made me disregard what the entire video said, even if there is some level of truth behind it.
@@Amurous I remember when I used to be a fan of his and he uploaded a video about how lotteries are a scam... and then promoted a "no losses lottery" or whatever on the same video. I commented about how it looked sketchy, and the replies were about how it ultimately doesn't matter because we shouldn't fall for it because if we watch his channel then we are prepared for it lol. I really wish that Jake didn't go down this route. It's rarely that I actively decide to quit watching a channel for moral reasons because I can differentiate the art from the artist, but it really crossed the line for me.
Not his subscriber, but I watch couple of his videos a bit before his "downfall" , because of recommended. I found it strange how he explain "this is evil" but also promoting similar but different brand product at same time. I also notice later how his vids and thumbnails really clickbaity. But, I just think him as aggressive marketer or such, never think he's such a sellout
Unbox Therapy's downfall has been depressing to say the least. At one point they were almost rivaling LTT, now they're among the worst clickbait channels on the platform.
He had a podcast for a while that was a little more respectable... Much less followers and they just sort of talked about the news but then they nuked it without explanation
I never reli understood the appeal, personally. I know this isn't a new observation, but it was basically just home shopping network for RU-vid. I remember back when they tried pushing a dehumidifier as some revolutionary "water from air" machine, which, aside from being stupid, is also hella dangerous.
I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a long time. I don’t comment much but today I wanted to say thank you for producing content that I can listen to while I work. Another excellent piece, thumbs up. Cheers.
the greatest sellout is youtube itself, not just this isnt the same youtube landscape it once was, but also due to youtube doing stuff like banning people using adblock
We, the viewers & content creators, are the reason that RU-vid became a successful multi-billion dollar company. And RU-vid prepays us by treating us like spoiled leeches that can't survive without the platform.
I appreciate the fact that people can become internet famous, if you can manage it that's awesome and good for you. But the way it goes to people's heads is baffling. Especially the crazy spending confuses me as it's even harder to go long term (haha 5 years plus?) as an internet celebrity and you see these guys throwing around cash like it'll keep coming in ten years down the line.
Many professional sports players are the same... like, they know they will prob be retired by 30 but they just blow money without any savings or investing and then end up broke after a few years once they're not on top anymore. It keeps happening but folks just don't seem to learn. The ones good enough to be a brand by themselves forever are miniscule but everyone thinks they're an exception.
One thing you didn't cover on Unbox Therapy which is a bit more recent than the Pablo Escobar phone is him reviewing a case and then deleting the video and making the exact same case himself, called the Later Case. The company that made the original case that he reviewed were very upset about it.
When I first started watching Jake Tran's videos, I was drawn in by the unique story telling of presenting this evil corporation in the perspective of running it. Telling the story as if we the viewer were at the wheel of these massive companies making these decisions, was an interesting concept. I use the sponsor block extension so I never knew that he was sponsored by the same people he was villainising.
The way he told stories was genuinely interesting. It broke down everything where everyone could understand it but he still kept it incredibly entertaining. It really sucks that he turned out to just be a spineless shill
@@emmaesta9444 He who writes about monsters with cash asks, "Why should they have all that money and not me?" And him needing to make up for that he didn't have way back when caused him to try to make up for lost time.
I see humor in Jake Tran's approach, like a running gag. He gets a sponsor & before he promotes it, he has a video of him telling you why his sponsor is a piece of shit. The audience is in on the joke, which is why he still has subscribers, & the sponsor is the butt of the joke. Anyone dumb enough to buy the product after the video told them why it's a bad idea is probably too stupid to have their own bank account.
...why would you ever watch someone who you don't know, show you her/ his riches? Why would you ever watch these unoriginal and boring two-dimensional people? I'm so glad I never heard of any of these pathetic excuses for human beings, and I thank you Kira for a very well put together video 💪🏻
I really like how varied the topics are that you cover Kira. I came for kickstarter to court, and stayed for everything else! You are really good at this.
This. It's good to know we've managed to stay away from these horrible, horrible "content" creators by sheer luck or design. And I love to have it stay that way.
Most people haven't. Almost no RU-vidr is big enough to be known outside of their perspective audiences, except for maybe Pewdiepie and Mr. Beast, and a handful who make mainstream media controversy like the Paul Brothers or Chris Chan.
It really is amazing that I can spend dozens of hours a week on RU-vid and the algorithm knows to never suggest these kinds of videos to me. I only know anything about Mr. Beast because I heard the name, thought he was L.A. Beast, and told someone I was glad he had stopped eating insane things and was trying to make the world a better place
This is actaully good news. It shows that arrogance and a cocky attitude along with lying and misleading people doesn't pay off for creators. I'll be honest, out of all of these channels the only one I watched was Jake Tran. I stopped watching his videoes over a year ago because he took a step back, stopped making his own videos and started advertising scams. It's nice to see that these creators have got a snap back to reality.
@@bassmeo3937 In the short time, absolutely. Going forwards, they're going to be forever discredited. Yeah, they may have money, but money isn't important compared to reputation, nor does it buy you true happiness.
They already have more money than most people will make in their lifetime, I don't think they'll be strapped for cash unless they do something really dumb @@pegcity4eva
It's such a shame Jake went down like he did. His videos were genuinely good and while he joked about being evil most of us didn't expect it to actually be true.
You can never have a "Greatest Sellouts on RU-vid" list without Jake. What a damn shame. His channel was really entertaining and interesting, but then he became obsessed with profiting at all costs, pun intended.
@@newmoon4504I kind of get why he asked though. I saw this comment before watching the end of the video and at first thought he was maybe talking about Jake Paul until I read that his channel used to be "entertaining and interesting", and I thought "oh ok nevermind, its Jake Tran"
Unbox therapy had a video reacting to the new iPhone 15 pros that came out within minutes of the official announcement. I went to watch it to get a look at how the colours look. They were all fake. He had just 3D printed what the rumoured colours were and reacted to them as if they were real. I couldn’t believe a channel so large would actively upload something so deceptive so clicked off and have actively avoided his channel since. Can’t trust the guy further than you can throw him
As always, another great video. Keep it up! Two of the three I previously followed but had unfollowed following the controversies you mentioned. It was really cool to hear it from your perspective. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this.
Jake Tran had the chance to be a staple in the video essay side of youtube, he could have still been a millionaire brining in 6+ figures a month with regular sponsors but greed got a hold of him. Also the second that evil food channel popped up in my recommended feed I knew it had to Jake trying to claw his way into the algorithm again.
Humility is very important in life and every profession. If you let popularity get to your head, you will lose it all, both your humility and your popularity. However, for many people, that gets harder the more popular you become. Power can override any kind of humbleness someone has, it's just a matter of how much power it takes between each person.
the first guy when showed him when he had 100k subscribers sayin ghow lucky he was . if that was genuine that was sad to see he was once grateful . getting everything you thought you wanted can destroy a person . gratitude is a doorway to peace .
I remember your Jake Tran video from a while back. It's quite satisfying to see now that he did get his due diligence in the form of losing subscribers and reputation.
I was an OG unbox therapy watcher. Louis was so genuine at first... I think his relationship broke down or something. Then he changed. His style changed, even the way he talked changed. He so obviously breaks promotion rules, doesn't declare sponsorships etc - I just stopped trusting him.
I stopped liking him after the fake truckload of iPhone giveaway he did years ago, he only gave out like 3. Plus his clickbait sucks, he has an ego about him now.
@@MrPanda-yq4quI used to love him too, but after a certain point it just felt like he wasn't excited by any of the stuff he was unboxing anymore, that's what made me stop watching
i stopped watching unbox therapy when he pretty much copied a case he reviewed, sold it as a new and original product and then deleted the video on the original case. He has no integrity
I literally had to block unboxing therapy because I couldn't stand that YT kept suggesting his videos. Dude was deceitful AF too, would shill all kinds of garbage products that were actually cheap sponsored products, but he didn't disclose that they were paid sponsored products he was bothering viewers to buy.
Still not seeing what the issue is with that video. At least for me I just came away thinking self driving cars would be a useful tool if someone figures out how to make it work and that it is something worthwhile to be worked on.
Haven't watched him in ages, but did Philip DeFranco ever build that independent media empire that he promised to fleece his fans of a boatload of dosh?
Kamikoto knives, buy a piece o paper and become a Lord, Pablo Escobar smartphone, fake solar company, web 3, earth 2, Artesian Builds.... Scammers everywhere.
Good vid, top level work as always, Kira. Love me some Coffeezilla. Would've been nice to see Artesian Builds & Linus TT in here. Guess we can wait for a part 2.. and 3... :)
That, or platinum bright silver, or any bright obnoxious Colour. It’s like an obvious warning sign that gives good people who like to dye their hair for a new look, a bad name.
I remember those "Mystery Box" promos, but didn't The PAUL Brothers push these as well? If so, WHY didn't they suffer from this? Or did RU-vid protect them like they protected Sniperwolf when she doxed someone? Because Jake Paul sure has gotten away with a TON of stuff on RU-vid with ZERO repercussions.
I remember H3H3's video where they exposed Rice Gum proving that he tired to scam his fans again by giving them invalid gift cards. They called Amazon and the agent told them that the cards had been used months before he posted these codes in his video.
Jake's videos were awesome, it's a shame how he continued. But on the other hand it is fascinating how fast one can rise and fall within a few months. The Dupont, Nestlé and plastic videos were brilliantly high quality and then it all tanked.
I swear those Amazon Gift Cards Rice ''gave'' away were used before the video was even uploaded, and that it was confirmed by Amazon themselves that was the case?
Another great watch, it is really sad to see the trust of viewers is now down the drain. I would like to see your take on the Gratz-CreepyProduce situation, a newcomer Clash Royale RU-vidr with almost unmatchable early success and their very controversial past.
You are aware the gabby hanna accusations she made on ricescum were debunked right? A bunch of people who were there told a different story to what gabby said and revealed gabby was kinda instigating it by annoying the hell out of him on purpose. Plus if i recall he did buy her a new phone after he slapped her og phone out of her hand. Also ricegum is still active but he moved to rumble where the rest of the former youtube gegenerates moved to Ricegum is a prick but you really need to make sure your doing your research and making sure your not taking things at face value because that can end up doing a lot of harm not only to the people you now just accused but also for you and your audience
@@heyitspete6472 I mean would it be better if he used an obscure synonym that nobody knows the meaning of? I think I'd prefer the usage of words I understand.
Jake Tran's new channel Evil Food Supply probably is a more backhanded grift then you think, as his videos are very much targeted against meat and dairy alternatives, propagandising very easily disprovable lies. The meat and dairy industry in the past has sponsored some RU-vidrs to spread misinformation, so I am guessing he just took a big check from them.
man i totally forgot about the unboxing dude, i didn't know of any of the "downfall" or anything, there was one or two videos that seemed to me like the where a little too far in the realm of "paid for comments" on terrible hardware so i just stopped watching
"Throwing pennies at the peasants from his castle filled with gold" I don't know if you got that from somewhere else or came up with it yourself, but that line goes hard as fuck and perfectly describes what RiceGum did
Let's hope Kira never ends up being in a video like this. I love this guy's content mixed with the "working class" humor- I'd hate to see the day he's bragging about some absolutely horrible looking shoes he overpaid for 😂
This is one thing that I am always scared about, unironically. I love making content and I enjoy experimenting with different types of content and I almost wonder if success and fame turns someone into someone like Ricegum or Unbox Therapy, or were they always like that way? What if by per-chance my content one day blows up, will I become like Ricegum?
Time and fame have a unique way of showing a person's character. I don't really trust anyone online or in real life, because anyone is capable of degraded integrity. If people were inherently good, there'd be no need to maintain it in the first place.
Honestly, I would of made my money and dipped at a certain point, Once you start reaching a certain level of consistency and revenue at that point time to diversify that portfolio and branch out of youtube. I think most people crash out because they run out of ideas that will keep up that same energy.
