This movie was the first movie my Wife and I watched after we suffered a miscarriage and I had been trying to be a rock for my wife and hadn't even cried yet. Something that recently stood out to me in the This is Me scene: I initially thought that the audience was shallow and only applauded because it was flashy and unusual. However, the audience is mainly the lower and middle class, who were likely looked down on by the upper class. They can relate to the performers on some level, and it is possible that they are getting more out of the performance than just laughs. At least that's how I took it :)

I’m on permanent disability for severe panic attacks. The amount of family members who try to “encourage” me by recommending jobs to me is extremely disheartening. My aunt recently told me to get help at a facility, and when I researched the one she recommended to me it was an extremely pricey rehab for addiction (I’m not an addict, but her daughter was, so she assumes that’s my problem too). This song helps remind me that everybody’s version of success is different. To me, the fact that I’m still alive is a HUGE success. Oh my god that is insane! I don't understand what is going through thos people's minds! There should be more awareness over different conditions and how people need wheelchairs sometimes all the time, sometimes some days, sometimes if they know that they will need to move far or for a couple of hours. Because apparently people are not educated AT ALL. Even when I didn't know about wheelchairs only being needed sometimes explicitly, I never just assumed someone didn't need one. I also don't see the appeal in faking it unless it's for court. These types of people would rather take something from 100 people that need it if there is just 1 person that doesn't need it benefiting somehow.

The line from "This is Me" that speaks the most is "And I know that I deserve your love; there's nothing I'm not worthy of!" As someone who struggles with self-loathing and imposter syndrome, this mantra is some that chokes me up every time. Also, I forgive the historical inaccuracies for everyone EXCEPT for what they did to Jenny Lind! She was a person who in real life donated her time and money to the development of free education! Her character was described as "charity, simplicity, and goodness personified" and by all accounts she was a wonderful person. As a person who was in an interracial relationship for several years, I relate to Jahannah's experience on a deep, personal level. These kind of aggressions still happen all the time. There has been times I was with my step-daughter and people thought she was in danger or I was "the help." There has been times my husband and I was forced to leave restaurants or entire towns for our safety. Also, the overly friendly compliments while appreciated, are strange. I will admit though, there were times it was really funny. We use to watch my niece and nephews all the time and would take them out on little adventures with my step-daughter. My nephews are biracial and my niece is light skinned, with one nephew clearly being older and my step-daughter being the next in age. People always assumed all the children were ours and seeing the double takes and the strange leaps in logic strangers would take to justify us as a group was hilarious. There are so many logical reasons two adults would be out with a group of kids, and they NEVER came up. Ever.

Ugh, I hate that whole series so much. The makeup and things were done so well, but ick. It's just gross to watch children murdering each other...and the way the series ended and what happened to Petra...his character suddenly changed...no clear reason why...(maybe trauma due to the world he lived in??) But it's definitely a good choice for them. I read the books and saw the movies, but I just heartily dislike it.

"A Million Dreams" is the hope, "Come Alive" is realising your dream, "This Is Me" is pretty much the essence of the whole thing and "Never Enough" is the moral, "Rewrite the Stars" is almost a lament that society needs work, "Tightrope" is like evaluation, "From Now On" is like a reminder not to blow it. I think it's great that people are able to find meaning and enjoyment in this movie. I'm glad that there are things in it that resonate with people. It's just difficult for me, knowing who P.T. Barnum was, to get on board with it. He did reprehensible things, and treated people like animals (and didn't treat animals too great either), and it's heartbreaking to read and hear the actual true stories of these people. That said, I think it's fortunate that this is a musical, because it's possible to separate the songs from the context of the movie, and they still have great meaning on their own. To be honest, if this was just a movie about just some guy who owns a circus, named literally anything besides P.T. Barnum, then I'd probably like it 100 times more. It does have some great things in it. As it is, though, it's not a movie I can pay much attention to without getting upset.

I know that this song wasn’t talked about too much, but can we just appreciate the fantastic lyrics of Never Enough. The song at the beginning comes off as a love, saying that everything means absolutely nothing unless they have the one they love by their side. As the song goes on, it strays away from the theme of love and talks about how nothing is enough for them, not even mentioning the person they were just saying they can’t live without. This song foreshadows how Barnum becomes selfish, and puts his success before the ones he loves most. This song unpacks so much, yet is one of the most simple songs in the movie. Absolutely amazing 🤩

@pj9525 2 года назад
Exactly! Contrasted with "A million dreams," which despite it's big number uses the phrase, "is all it's gonna take," which sounds so hopeful and humble... Never Enough is so pretty but so greedy. And then there's that moment in A Million Dreams when they're dancing at the station when PT looks in that restaurant window, it's such perfect foreshadowing that he'll lose sight of his dreams later, even that his wife pulls him back into the dance. This movie is so well made....

When Zac let go of her hand her head stayed up, when she was faced with his parents her back stayed straight. And she's not loud or aggressive even though no one blame her if she was, she's just quietly dignified because she knows who she is and even though those words an actions *hurt* her, she's not going to let them *change* her. And that is so very admirable.

At some point, however, I came across this video with the song “Never Enough.” At first, I was like, “This is really good art! The play Hamlet seems pretty neat!” (Note that this was before I learned that Hamlet is really about) Then my English teacher told my class to read Hamlet (the full play). I was too tired to actually read it so I thought, “Hey! There was that one musical called Hamlet, right? Maybe I’ll watch that instead of reading it!” I watched the original vid and it was pretty neat so I decided to listen to one of the songs. But then I slowly realized that I may have gotten something wrong. I misread the name and had been listening to Hamilton the whole time.

Love this part 1 so far! Can't wait for part 2! The part when Jahanna was talking about how her and her partner are treated due to being "different" is how my bf and I were treated similarly. My bf and I are of Caucasian decent, but I was born with a very noticeable disability (one foot deformed) so I'm used to being stared at (to an extent) because I walk with a limp and if I'm wearing shorts or capris, the brace I wear is exposed. He got to experience what it's like for me once when we went shopping at a local Walmart for a few things one day. A grade school aged kid was just dead locked staring at me. I noticed the kid was, but I was just ignoring them. However, that bothered him bad enough where he told the kid kindly to stop. He sadly had a small taste of what I deal with on an almost daily basis, doesn't matter if it's kids or adults. Like Zac with Zendaya in the movie, he looked past my disability and only loved me for who I was as a person. His family nor my family thankfully never treated us differently either due to that factor. The only thing that did kinda make them scratch their heads was that him and I had an 11 yr. age gap and decided date each other lol. We were together for 4+ yrs. up until sadly his sudden passing in February. R.I.P. Ryan, love you forever and always

For me the „this is me“ song meant so much cause I described myself as a teenager as a Glas vase that broke and I keep cutting myself trying to put the pieces together, letting them drop and smashing them in the process even more. So the „broken parts“ line really rang true for me.

Can you please do a cinema therapy on Heather’s and toxic/unhealthy relationships? It’s favorite movie but I’d be really interested to hear your opinions on it

I LOVE this film. I saw it for the first time when I was homeless, jobless, and broke living off of friends' charity while I was trying to get my life back together. Starting this video with This Is Me brought back so many memories. Now I am in law school and self sufficient, but struggling for different reasons. Where I am today is leaps forward from where I was 15, 7, and 2 years ago. Getting the chance to reflect back with you reminds me I that where I will be next year and in 5 years will be light years ahead of where I am now. Thanks.

I consider "This Is Me" my power song. A couple of years ago I was in a situation where some boundaries I had set with a toxic person were being heavily challenged by them, and I listened to this song on repeat for 3 hours to keep my courage up. Pretty much cried the whole time, too, but in the end I stayed firm with my boundaries and things shifted in a good way. Thank you so much for covering this movie; it's one of my favorites ❤

Please do a therapist reacts to Repo: the Genetic Opera. Its got some good songs, messed up family dynamics, fake blood that looks about as realistic as kool-aid, and a pretty good storyline.

Seeing this in theaters, it was an experience. First theres the message from Hugh Jackman saying this movie was made for theater, and I was like "oh thats cool", but when the opera singer came on I really FELT it. She sang those first few words and I remember being speechless. And then every song after seemed to amp up even more.

I am about 5 minutes into the video and had to stop watching because I can't stop crying. I didn't expect you to talk about this is me so early and it totally caught me off guard. The song means a lot to me and I cry nearly every time I see this scene. But it adds a whole new emotional level to hear other people talk about how much it means to them AND watch it at the same time

the moment you said "the people that you admire the most had the most haters in general" and my head just pops out my favorite Taylor Swift, then the clip jumps out of her "shake it off", as both a Swiftie and your audience I was done, my life just complete.

On the part about misfits - my favorite author, Terry Pratchett, was told as a child by his headmaster that he would never amount to anything. It hurt him deeply and I'm not sure he ever got over it. But, he went on to be one of the world's top selling authors and was given a Knighthood for Services to Literature. Also he changed my life, and many others, with his realistic but compassionate understanding of human nature. His anger at people who made the world unfair and unkind drove his writing, and brought joy and healing to so many people.

I hope they talk about the lack of disabled story content in this. They completely gloss over all the performers and focus on the love story. It's not even historically accurate because PT Barnum never had a relationship with the Opera singer. Edit: also the 'albino' is a woman with the disease Albinism and most with this disease are blind or visually impaired. But there's no indication of that here. This movie glossed over the source material. However, it is a beautiful and excellently executed movie. It's beautiful and looks pretty and sounds good, but this movie idolized a bastard who exploited numerous people.

I've heard once, the film is supposed to be like P. T. Barnum would have made it. Everything a little bit more fantastic, a little bit bigger, a little bit less like reality.

When Zendaya turned 18 she decided to select a charity to donate money to on her birthday since she was an adult. At the time she chose Convoy of Hope (an organization dear to my heart as an AG girl from MIssouri). I"m not sure if she stayed with them or moved on to other organizations as well, but that's about the time I really started sitting up and taking notice of her.
