As a kid back in the day...this bit of cinematic trickery was fascinating as well as frightening.....the pillars allowed the make up department to transform this rather..regal actor into a very essence of the Devil.....I still had nightmares about this scene. Kudos to Sterling and crew....just bloody brilliant. No CG..not even in color!!!That is pure TV magic.
Terrifying & one of the best. Which is why you can't get to see the full episode now unless you pay through the nose. Used to be freely available here on u tube. A 1960's episode ffs.

I love the twilight zone and I am so glad I brought the 2018 complete series Blu-ray release, it comes complete with many of the radio dramas to, which were made in the 2000s or so. I have all the radio dramas separately on a blu ray disk MP3 format sold cheaply online, couldn't be happier. The Howling Man is so well done. Twilight Zone is Easily the best thing I have ever seen, even beating The Xfiles.

The howling sound has been a Simpsons scene transition sounds for 30 years. Amazed no one has caught on after all these years. You can hear it in dozens of episodes of The Simpsons as one scene transitions to the next. I wonder what the inside joke is.

Man is third behind God and Satan in the power structure but when someone believes in the person and finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, the God/Man, on the cross for their sins, he is indwelt by God the Holy Spirit and therefore protected. 1 John 4:4 - You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." ----- not necessarily protected from every dart of satan but, as with Job, he now has to get permission.

I saw him as a light image on a big window somewhere once. People of course don't believe me it's like saying you saw a UFO up close. But the one benefit I got from actually seeing what his face looks like is that if he is real then also GOD must be real. I was at a place that had various strange things happen in that time period so it was par for the course for red man to make his presence felt. I wasn't scared when I saw his image and I looked at it for like 10 or 15 minutes straight it was an uncanny resemblance to what people think he looks like. Part of that time I was saying to myself people won't believe my story but like the main character in this episode said "You must believe me you must"
Yeah, I never really believed in religious things until I worked at a homeless shelter that had a resident demon (Vista Colina in Phoenix, AZ). That thing messed with all the staff separately, messed with me a bit, even physically grabbed me once even though I couldn't see anything. After that I started looking into the spiritual world. I'm a born again Christian now (baptized this year LDS, but raised Catholic, was atheist for 9 years).

This tricky-China practice puts corporations and businesses out of business replaced by cheap China made crap. And China regularly uses against poor countries clearly tricky-loans and tricky infrastructure improvements (using Chinese workers instead of locals) that are clearly debt-traps (taking their sovereignty) that the poor countries cannot repay thus they loose their sovereignty to China that builds military bases and has a foot-hold in their country and entire continent like a spreading cancer. WHATEVER INVENTORS CREATE CHINA STEALS MAKING CHEAPER COPIES THUS PUTTING THE CREATORS OUT OF BUSINESS. Ex. China stole U.S. steel manufacturing formula and methods then put the American manufacturer out of business by flooding the world with cheap steel. A state-run and state-supported manufacturer or business cannot be competed against by the private sectors in democracies, because the state-supported business is financially-backed by the national government (with evil motives to expand over the world) and more efficient since laws to protect workers and the environment are ignored. But consumers have not choice since EVERYTHING in stores is MADE IN CHINA! China illegally invaded the independent nation of Tibet, illegally dredged and constructed islands promising not to militarize them but did anyway with tricky ridiculous excuses. And the U.S., Europe, and other nations are doing NOTHING but to bitch and complain like little girls TO THE DEVIL CHINA to stop this and much more THUG-LIKE CRIMINAL actions by China.
I can't help but think that those commenters wise enough to recognize the relevance of this episode have at some point in their lives knowingly and willfully made a choice they later deeply regretted. Not some trivial choice either, but something life altering. And maybe they can even pinpoint with some accuracy the moment they made that choice, and even the reasons they had for making it. And in thinking about it in hindsight, they might try to reason that they were unduly influenced by this or that, or by someone or another, or that it just wasn't fair. But in the final analysis, they come to the conclusion that in the end, the choice was theirs alone to make. Sometimes, choices made are something a person has to live with, indeed, to their dying day.
One of my fave episodes and I love it, but honestly, wouldn't you logically start to figure it out by 1:10 especially with reference to the "Staff of truth" being the only thing that kept the Devil imprisoned?

Not really. An all powerful deity could simply delete a devil out of existence. It's only by his permission that a devil could even exist because he is all powerful. And mankind releases the devil which makes the devil responsible for the bad things that happen, in other words mankind is not guilty to his own deeds.

However, we might also agree that an individual who chooses a spiritual path may best do so without any transfer of money or loss of personal control to any other human(s) dictating from the pulpit. I love how the comment simply states a name, yet it elicits such a strong negative response. The commenter didn't say if Trump was Satan, or the bearded man keeping the evil at bay, or the foolish main character. But all of you somehow knew exactly which fit Trump the best.
