You might stone me to death for what I am about to say, but I´m pretty confident it´s not live, it´s pre-recorded. James Morrison is an incredible trumpet player, however I still think he wouldn´t be able to play it this clean and to hit that (I think it´s triple C in English) C at the end. Also when you look at his face and compare it to what he normally looks like when playing high notes, he looks quite relaxed here. But that´s just my opinion, I might be wrong.

@@janlansky4672 hitting a triple c isn’t too hard for the best of players, and all the face scrunching is really just for show and or not necessary. Almost all reputable trumpet players can play in the upper range stone faced

@@TheBobcatlover That's not really true and the analogy is misdirected. It's more like: in silence/nothingness, all things exist in superposition, in the background of reality. Basically, infinite everything is happening in nothing. As soon as you play a single note everything polarizes around it and your brain perceives pitches as being different and having different emotional qualities in different contexts based on how, what ever is being played relates to where ever the most consonant Ionian mode exists, regardless of it being played ever, if at all. Music is formulaic, meaning as you use more different notes, you leave less room for things to be open ended and "implied". Jazz is simply adding extra layers of complexity to a piece of music, whether it's extra harmonies, intervals, dissonance, Rhythm, etc. This is why it is recieved by many people negatively... Extra complexity in music, doesn't always mean better... With that said, I like jazz and understand it and have found works of genius in the genre, but TBH, I just like simple diantonic modal music way more then any Jazz. It's hard for me to comprehend how people tune in on it and get really good at making it... TBH, "jazz" is used to describe too much drastically different music and it's hard to even know what people are talking about, when they try to define it all at once. 😆

@@ZERO-ky8vm first off, it's not - second, as a trumpet player who owns a piccolo trumpet, it does not make it any easier to play higher.

It's certainly in the bright flute range, but very possible for solid trumpet players who are trained for such notes.

As a flute player this looks normal, and definitely not for trumpet

I don’t think the trumpet is necessarily even made to go that high but somehow he defies logic

For reference, most trumpeters will struggle for months to reach the top of the stave when they’re learning to play

I actually think you can only really really appreciate this if you have played trumpet for some years. Absolutely insane.

That long sustained note he did is a double high G. The closest I ever got to that was an E two whole steps below that, even after playing for several years. He’s holding that G for like 10 seconds and makes it sound easy. I mean I’ve heard guys hit higher than that, but still this is crazy impressive.

Morrison is unnatural. From playing full chords on trombone to perfect double c’s he can do it all.

This is only mouthpeace and anatomy, not arts, not heart, he is a crocodile, a power machine as Sandoval also. That is a subculture. The sport of the trumpet. Many people likes it as for example the boxing. Your amazement can not be stronger than your heart, and your ears. If you haven't heart, you can not recognize those things... He is amazing, I would like to have those abilities, but I'm glad and satisfied without those...

@@thomaslechner1622 Exactly. That concept is so misunderstood by people - including many trumpet players. Piccolo trumpet playing is a whole different ballgame.

Worry more about your tone and control rather than just range. Range means nothing if it sounds bad and out of control
