The reason the Persians were especially mad at Athens for aiding the Ionian revolt is pretty funny. Before the revolt, there was a time when Athens was afraid that Sparta was going to attack them, and the city sent an emissary to the Persian Empire to ask for their protection if that ever happened. Persia said they would help if Athens submitted earth and water to them, basically a sign of submission. The emissary might have conducted that ritual when he was in Persia, but when he got back to Athens, he found that the city and Sparta were actually on friendly terms, so Athens just forgot about the whole submitting earth and water to Persia. The Persian Empire did not forget.

The most hilarious bit in Herodotus' the Histories, is when they are trying to persuade the Spartans to help the Ionians, they're told the Persians fight in turbans and trousers, so you see how easy they will be to beat...

Lol who said that hellenes can't have monarchy dumb dumb cyrene was a kingdom ,epirus was a kingdom and technical all tyrants were kings just called tyrants by the Athenians who didn't like monarchy you slavs cope
