The Greeks have lived on the territory of modern Ukraine since ancient times and can be considered an autochthonous population.
There are numerous monuments of ancient Greek culture in Ukraine: Olbia, Pantikapeus, Chersonese, and monuments of the Middle Ages.
In the 14th and 15th centuries in Crimea, there was even a state - the Gothic-Greek principality of Theodoro. A unique Greek community formed on the Crimean peninsula, which after its resettlement in the 18th century, the north of the Azov Sea was called the Mariupol Greeks. Today, the descendants of this community make up almost 85% of the total number of Greeks in Ukraine. They revive their unique culture and threatened the languages of the Greeks of Pryazovia.
