Back again with another episode of Forgotten Guns! It may be old & not the most practical gun to choose in 2018, but it sure as hell is beautiful! Jonny is certainly a fan, what do you think?

Nostalgia overload. My mum bought my dad a gp as his first gun, for Christmas in 1960's. The gun he taught me with and I killed my first pigeon with. My son has now used it and shot his first bird with it. My dad is now 78 and it is still his go to gun every time. Shooting is so much more than the kill.

My dad passed down his old Greener GP MK2 to me a couple of years ago; absolutely cracking gun, lots of character and history, smooth action and well balanced. Definitely what i'd class as a "farmer's gun" lol.

My Dad had a GP back in the '70s but sold it when the law changed and guns had to be kept in a locked steel cabinet (instead of the wardrobe). As a boy I once shot a wood pigeon at ridiculous range with it. Being frustrated at shooting nothing all day I took aim at what I thought was a starling - it was that high. I killed it stone dead, but its altitude and speed carried it right over a nearby river and into an impenetrable blackthorn thicket on the opposite bank.

I've wanted a Greener GP almost as long as I've wanted a Martini-Henry. Sadly, while Martinis are available in America, at inflated prices, GP's are next to impossible to find here.

My GP [27114] is the best rabbit gun I own. It's tight choke means that with a heavy load cartridge it will strike bunnies down at ranges that my other 12 bores are too open pattern to do. 100 in one weekend is the best it has done !.. It's a "keeper" amid other fancier guns.

Incredibly good video all around--nice views of GPs (not to mention the countryside) and helpful information presented by someone with a contagious passion for these wonderful oldtimers. Have two early ones as you say brilliant guns ones a 28 inch barrel the other is a 32 inch , the 28 inch belonged to a family friend who used it a lot in Uganda back in the 60s when he worked for the British government at the time he shot everything from solid rounds to buckshot down it real allrounder . People can be snobbish about them though was asked on a relatively posh driven shoot a few years ago after the first drive I was asked to either get a proper two barrels or to leave the field the guy at the time did not know I did all the estates contract work , when the owner of the estate found out he was the one asked to leave Lol people !, good gun though always my go to when shooting vermin . Thanks for an informative video regards .

Nice video, guys. I just picked one up in the states, after searching for one for several years with no luck. Oddly enough, mine doesn't have the usual GP markings, safety or checkering on the stock/forend, but is in 12GA, 2 3/4" chamber and a .719" bore. In your video, you mentioned that you had to have a license for the "Rarer" variants, is that a separate license from a normal UK shotgun license?

I suspect that comment was in light of the fact that you have to screw the barrel all the way out, the thread isn't interrupted. And also when it is apart, the barrel is still almost 3 feet long.
@philipsmedia5268
@philipsmedia5268 3 года назад
These guns were definitely not quality gun. Be very careful when buying these, checking barrel thread is essential on these guns. Also the actions and foreend as these do not age well. The screw used to tighten the action, the take down screw needs checking to make sure the thread is good as these are a wearing factor. I bought one of these from a local gun shop and the foreend cracked right open and split my finger and it only had three cartridges through it!
