The Grey Ghosts - Maori Warriors in Vietnam (OmdtU)

Deborah Wai Kapohe singt "Adios meu homino".

Today is ANZAC DAY and I watched Maori TV screen a documentary of our Vietnam Warriors. Growing up wondering why my daddy didn't walk in the parades or stand silently in the background at the dawn parades was a puzzle to me I thought my daddy was the greatest hero in the world. He worked hard real hard and still saw me off at my high school ball between shifts with a limo. Daddy didn't talk much about his years in the army he told me he was a cook. I got older and asked my father to sign my permission forms for the Army so I could join.....he looked at me and cried there is no place for a maori women to be in the army there is no place for our people in there. I joined anyway did my service mum got hold of me told me to come home your dad is moke moke for you.....and I served my father for the rest of his life. We had understanding now and he would open up about his service and all he could cry about was Murray Turnball and the little children on the rubbish hills. Thank you my daddy I'm grateful for you and all that you did but most of all don't cry for my AGENT ORANGE GENTIC INHERITANCE. We both joined and I know even if you never acknowledged or said it you were proud of me.......I'll see you again e Papa.

Awwwwwsme , warriors that have walked in the vision of the visionarys before them , and the outcome and effects that come with it , what do we dream about now , if we can't ask questions from our own resorseful whanau ♥️ how are they gonna better advise us if they swear allegence on top of and allegiance that's already written in there hearts ❤️ for there whanau ♥️ hapu and iwi ,some of whom end up in depression cause can't talk about there traumatic experiences , and some just become bloody alcoholics , chocoholics ,and these men have a wealth of knowledge , they are the real teachers , these warriors don't need a script , these are they that keep chronology real for historical continuety ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ of there whanau ♥️♥️

Much respect to all these gentlemen. It was an honour to have attended a course with Olly in Linton 1978. He was a legend to us young soldiers at that time and a very humble man as well .Nga mihi mahana ki a koe e matua Oriwa na Pat Graham ex Pioneer 77-81

when US soldiers raped and murdered 500 Vietnamese civilians and burned their homes. Only one man, Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson, and his flight crew stopped the massacre by blocking American soldiers and threatening to kill them, saving countless lives and later testifying against the murderers. For this, he was denounced as a traitor and spent much of his life suffering from depression, PTSD, and nightmares. He died in 2006. Today, he represents the importance of disobeying orders and enduring the hate of the public for doing what’s right. I wish we had more of him.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, since all wars regardless when it took place and what era, every Government will wipe there hand when service men come back to adjust to every day life, which is not the case. Many years ago i.e in the United States somethings that stuck a cord another Vietnam vet killed his supervisor or his work mates. Then I happen to buy a book when living in Kalgoorlie Life after Vietnam by Delores A Kuenning ISBN 1-55778-231-8 How Veterans and their love ones Can heal the Psychological Wounds of War. The Government will not help you, and its a long road for healing and all service man & women need the full support regardless of where they served oversea, in Australia 239 have committed suicide while 49 have been killed in active duty so regardless what country you serve the same applies serve your country and don't expect to have any help.
