Absolutely incredible, my great x5 Grandad was Thomas Staniforth who setup the Thomas Staniforth & Co Works at Hackenthorpe in 1753 and the Staniforths kept it running till 1980, before that my family were grinding in Eckington, from at least 1775 as Apprentice records show
Take pride in all my Sheffield steel, old and new. Good to see a master at work, thanks Robin. Thanks for writing the book too, much help to me that was.
Hello from America. You are a very talented man. It’s hard to have that steady of a hand on sharpening something. God bless you and your families. Duane
My gt granddad and his his dad were both knife grinders in Sheffield....great job for getting your lungs full of dust and filings...grinders were encourage to take up smoking to help "bring it up"....a couple of pints of John Smiths didn't go amiss either....
Hi Robin my wife bought me one of your carving axes for a birthday present last year and I don’t know if I was sent a used one but the bevels are terrible on it very thin and obtuse and it will not take a decent edge
Just received one of these for father's day beval is very narrow with quite an obtuse grind, doesn't cut very well at all certainly not paper cutting sharp quite disappointed to be honest! !
Hi Randal, everything we do and make is covered with a full guarantee of satisfaction or exchange or refund so do please get in touch via email. We design the tools for carving wood and holding an edge for a long time. We could grind them to a finer bevel and some experienced carvers prefer to sacrifice some edge holding ability and sharpen more regularly. No bevel angle will be perfect for everyone we try to hit a good compromise between edge retention and ease of cutting.
