I've always thought the Roblox engine was held back severely due to the average game focus being profit through manipulative methods rather than creativity and quality

I’m a ROBLOX developer, and I can promise that not all of us are money-hungry hogs that want nothing but profits from their games. Some of us do actually enjoy developing decent games. It is unfortunate that we’ll always have to compete against the manipulative ones, though. Remember people, don’t give into these games.

As someone who is a free to play player i say All Star Towerdefense is one of the less gross monetization game because it was actually pretty easy to get really good towers. However, I do agree the aspect of gambling to get towers is one of if not the worst ways to obtain units as it is super grindy and soley based on luck.

The sad truth is that the only way for these games to stop implementing and evolving all sorts of gambling is to quit the game completely. Roblox has a feature called Premium Payouts, where devs get paid for Premium playerrs just playing their game, which tend to make great amounts of money often make up to 30-40% of overall earnings in non-p2w games that however do include dev products and gamepasses.

My favorite thing about tds is that you have to grind to get stuff and you KNOW you will get that exact tower. Games like these have cheap lootboxes that give you trash luck and leads to you paying and paying and still not getting what you want. There updates take 2 days and have bad quality usually too. W vid glad ur calling out the bad tower defense games

For ASTD, like many comments have mentioned, it for the most part doesn’t really require you to pay to progress. Gems are very easy to get and there’s also pity systems. There is strategy in the game but cooler basically equals a free win so strategy is mostly reserved for leaderboard runs. Now the stardust system is definitely an issue. As a leaderboard player it’s really annoying to have to rely on luck using a currency that’s very scarce and annoying to get. But overall you don’t neeed to spend money and tbh it wouldn’t even help. It’s less p2w but more extremely Grindy.

This Is Why I Play Tower Heroes. It Has Moderate Updates, Weekly Challenges, Only Gambling For Skins & Stickers (Which Don’t Effect Gameplay, They Just Give Cool Looks To Your Towers Or Just An Decal With A Cute Sound), Decent Amounts Of In Game Currency When Ya Beat Maps, Actual Effort, Official Crossovers With Multiple Games (Including DOORs, Robot 64, And RoBeats), And The Gamepasses Are Either Just: Custom Music/Sandbox Modes, Getting Event (Like Halloween, Easter, And Christmas) Towers (And They Are Not That Much Used), Currency (Obviously, But There Is No Exclusive Ones To Gamepasses, Luckily), And Other Stuff. I’d Say It’s One Of The Less Money Hungry Roblox Tower Defense Games, But Yeah, That Is Just What Im Gonna Say About This

As someone who played ASTD and other tower defense games, i agree that these games give u an addiction. Tbh it's not worth playing them since u do the same thing over and over again for example: U grind for ur dream tower/skin, eventually u get it and u're satisfied. But at some point u will get bored bc u got nothing ELSE to do in the game, after some time u find another cool tower/skin u want and then it repeats. It's not worth it, trust me.

Thanks for sharing your honest opinions on these games. I agree with practically all your points as I never understood why game developers can't just make a game that's F2P/F2W while still implementing some way to make money (i.e., donations, not valuable purchases).

Me and my friends are working on a TD game (we have no expectations for it to get big but just something that we can do to test how good we are in scripting, modelling, etc) and I have always wanted to prevent any kind of RNG or PayToWin. I fully want the game to be fair on all players because even if it's a small game that I want to expand (that I definitely won't have time to do), I will not resort to gambling or P2W methods to trick some players into giving me more money, because that's a sick thing to do. I would rather have a small game that only a few players play on average than having a massive game that trick players into paying more of their own money. Besides, I'm completely happy with me and my friends working on the game as it is because in all honesty, it's pretty fun and adding more developers would more than likely just cause stress. As a person who doesnt play all star tower defense but watches videos of it. I can say that there is SOME strategy when your like on the battlefield like activating the stop time at a specific time, making characters go the opposite way when they are near the end, etc (Im bad at my wording for it since I dont play tower defense games and dont know what to call it).

Tower blitz deserves so much more, great graphics, so many possible, many maps and cool maps, a 4 chapter event. Towers you can unlock in other ways, challenges ISC, so many enemies and they all have a lore behind them, and finally, 2 PATHS FOR TOWERS!! The game really deserves more, if anyone wants to say that it's not good, just remember that they are pumping out updates even though they barely make money.

I do think you should cover AA though because it's way worse then astd. The rates are less then half, and the thing you're summoning is not even guranteed. Plus, you have to spend way more money to get things like Unique or Divine traits, which are less then 0.1 percent chance of getting after spending alot of money for even one trait reroll.

Im very glad that someone with a large subscriber count has been saying what the small community of td players that actually care has been trying to say for a long time now, these scummy trend-riding gacha games are truly the worst of the tower defense genre. Though I will say one thing, I don't these gacha games get most of their money from children, and rather get them from adults with already existing gambling addictions that spend ludicrous amounts on the game(I know a friend that while being an adult, spends ludicrous amounts on All Star TD) but it's definitely still a problem. Personally I normally dont see an issue with gacha games(it's an adult's own responsibility to spent their money wisely), but when its on a platform that has mostly impressionable children it's stepping into very dangerous territory. In general though, the whole culture of roblox needs to change, its what ends up promoting devs to make these predatory games. Overall, well made video.

Thank you for spreading knowledge about these horrible monetization methods a lot of popular Roblox games use nowadays, most of these games barely get any backlash cause nobody bothers to call them out, we need more videos like this. 🙏

This is why I have stuck with Tower battles, not only is it basically THE original roblox TD game, but its got good balance, strategy, and no pay to win.

These reasons you mentioned is one of the biggest reasons why I have stuck with tower defense simulator, they are staying true to their path even if the terrain is rocky as hell. The lack of major updates is made up for being an integral and strong standing game. The game is about to start changing significantly for the better, and anyone who has not played it should probably get into it.

ASTD even has an “Afk zone” where the longer you stay the more currency you’ll get, but the rates are horrible and it’s just exploiting the playtime statistics.

ASTD player here. This video is done pretty well, but some stuff is missed. Astd is strategic because you still have to do abilities, like Time-Stop, Nukers, and Buffs. For time stops for example, you need to execute the auto feature correctly or it wouldn’t work right. Also, Astd is probably one of the most f2p anime games on roblox. I’ve spent 0 robux In the game compared to another tower defense game (Anime Adventures for example has trait rerolls which costs lots). I do agree that the prices on stuff are pretty expensive, but I don’t think your supposed to actively buy it. I also somewhat agree on the strategy part, because even with the things I mentioned it is still grind>strategy. Good video btw 👍

The thing about All Star is that you don’t need to spend money there’s a heck a lot of ways to get stuff but they aren’t unlimited which makes that game a waiting game for either the next season or a new way to grind star dust or gems

There was this Backrooms TD game that had not updated in months. Once they finally do update, they removed the tower shop and replaced it with a gacha and resettled your data.

Ultimate Tower Defense is actually quite old, but a huge cash-grab so got "revamped" recently, All Star Tower Defense is actually very F2P friendly, but Anime Adventures is the golden boy for the worse monetization in all of the tower defense genre.

as a 2017 tower battles veteran im happy that the genre is actually growing, but its sad its on a bad way, i have been playing tb since release and its nothing compared to toilet tower defense, but i think that people just do them for money and like toilet tower defense is based on skibidi toilet which is literally made for 3 year olds, it was a very good idea to get money from kids

It is definitely disappointing with the amount of new td games that don't focus on strategy but instead only for profit via gambling for towers that are similar to each other in the way they attack except one is going to always be better and rarer to keep players hooked into the game. I have played like tens of other tower defense games (Tbz and TDS being my most played) and despite some being questionable in quality, still has the element of strategy since every tower is unique and are balanced in a way that makes the game 'fun' for me. Of course, these "Tower Defense" games, no matter how high quality they are, feel soulless since towers in those games limit variety in gameplay, rather than actually increasing it. Unfortunately, as we've seen with toilet tower defense, these games just outcompete every other TD game that focuses on the normal formula because they can earn a lot of money due to their monetisation method, and can therefore make frequent updates that only serve to further encourage gambling of towers. It also doesn't help that Roblox is a kids platform and so it's highly unlikely that kids would back down from playing these games considering that gambling is inherently addicting, even more so for children. Anyways, thank you CORSO for bringing this issue up since it is not talked about as much.

I’m surprised u didn’t mention anime adventures, it’s one of the most if not THE most player tower defense game on roblox and I used to play it. I only got to lvl 60 but it took me weeks even months. I see players lvl 300 that have spent their life savings on it. From getting new units to getting good traits, the money spent on it exceeds that of ASTD greatly in my opinion.

that's why I never play anime tower defense games just imagine, getting the best tower in the game but suddenly a better one just pop up, and you just wanna grind again and leave the one you just get...tower defense games are mean to be strategy, not strength and power.. ofc power and strength is needed, but not something like one shot enemy during the entire game

Countering the points made on ASTD: • Characters being useless: Nobody uses 1-5 stars unless starting. The reason why some of those units aren’t used at all is how the meta changes. Characters get stronger and stronger. • Getting 7 stars aren’t difficult or expensive at all, considering you can get 7 stars for free from the Star Pass or the Cell Event. The Stardust 7 Stars are possible to get considering that every update they release codes for free stardust. It’s still chance based but they also release other units alongside the 7 Stars on the Normal Banners. • Gambling isn’t much of an issue in this game when acquiring Gems is stupidly easy get units on the regular banners. As for Stardust banners, the chances suck sometimes but they have ways to get Stardust and you have a decent chance of getting the said unit or the units alongside it in the banner, and also bring back previous 7 stars on the new banners. • Boycotting games that haven’t really done anything to steal money, is a real crap thing to do. Skibidi, sure, and whatever games that do that, I still feel that it’s a terrible choice of game considering that there aren’t predatory manners being used to get money. The currency in the game is very easy to acquire. • Just from my own experience, this game is more F2P than P2W. No one is buying Stardust since that’s just a waste of money. No one is buying gems when gems can be farmed so easily. There’s always so many chances to get the things you want in the game, and many ways to acquire the currency. Old units get unused, and they sometimes make new versions which are strong. It’s just the Meta shifting in the game. Units overtime get stronger. • Getting up there with the top players if not difficult since it’s easy to match up with other stronger players. That’s probably the best way to actually advance in the game. That’s how it’s done.

As an average TBZ And TDS I feel this sucks, this gambling system sucks.

It’s pretty sad how much of a grip gambling has on Roblox seeing less and less good games being replaced by gambling machines

Astd isn’t as bad as it seems, things such as damage task are practically free gems upwards of 100k. Then for stardust, you have some choices ranging from afk mode, story mode, or tower. Tower mode can give around 1 k stardust when completed. Main thing is you need some friends to help push through certain barriers to save time.

I suggest you play the battle bricks, its a good single player game which you would enjoy

Ttd is actually playable without spending robux since you can just grind up a few legendaries and trade them for exclusives and the other robux stuff (also you don't need the mythics, they are optional for people who have nothing more to do)

Tbh im happy that i found a game where there u cant buy anything(it might be in beta but its a really good tower defense until now), and the towers are balanced from begginer level to pro player level

I noticed this when I first went into "toilet tower defense" to see what was so good about it with my friend. It was terrible of course but when we died with garbage towers I wanted to buy something better. I went to go get a tower and then ended up gambling the money I earned from last match to get a tower that was WORSE than the starting tower. Not to mention the fact you can trade these towers, letting scammers sit in the lobby taking hard earned or event bought towers from kids.

4:50 the newest tower was the elf camp, although that was an event tower so it can be argued against.

The Battle Bricks has gambling however a good chunk of the game is possible without it, along with that the odds aren't that bad for good units (5% chance for a Uber which isn't that bad), more games should be like TBB but they aren't

I've already played this toilet tower defense to really see what the game is like and it's literally either you spend 10 hours or even 30 depending on your troops to have a chance of getting the mythical, and to have a farming troop like the ones that give money per wave you have to spend robux or give all your troops practically in a trade to get it.

I played a std in the past (when the first 6 stars where release) the gems are not that bad. In the late game you will have so many gems and can esay farm them and I think the same for stardust( I stop playing before stardust was in the game). The main problems of astd is that you need to have a lot of time and luck to get good units. The gem banners change ever hour so you have to constantly be wait every hour to see if the unit you want is on there. After you get it you need to do hard events that need more good until to finally get them to 7 star's. You don't spend much money in astd you spend more time on astd.

Yh this is why my game will not have gamepasses for anything that gives you an advantage and if anything only for skins or coins and I'll make the op stuff level locked (Also I'm pretty sure the reason so many ppl play this game not just astd but anything with anime in general is because yk well they contain anime characters)

I find tower heroes good bc you can just buy towers or do a quest if you want a skin you need to gamble but there is a situation happening with a developer from the game

the thing about this games is that causes gambling tandardization, give bad fame to the others tower defense games and make the people used to weekly updates or high player counts and it makes that others developers abandon their projects because the low player bass or stress for the need to make more update.

Wow, I see this as I'm beginning to create my own tower defense game. Gonna watch it so I figure out how to be a genuine developer.

If you want a tower defense game that has a gacha game mechanic in it I'd recommend monolith defense. From what I can tell most of the towers have a pretty equal rarity, and a good majority of the towers are fairly unique I'd say. There's also a faction system so you can either use towers of the same faction to help work in tandem, or mix in match to figure out strategies. It's a rather fun game, that doesn't get updated to often due to it's small player base and the dev's only source of income being merch a couple skins and a singular gamepass.

In my view, I would consider ASTD to be one of the most F2P anime games out there. Sure the robux costs are extremely high, but you don't have to buy. Instead, you can get thousands of gems/gold/stardust for free by afking, doing Tower Mode, tasks etc relatively easily so it isn't scummy like you suggest. When playing at ASTD's release, I respected the devs, Madao an FruitySama for making a simple yet F2P TD game through a gacha system (which at the time in 2020 wasn't something often seen outside of simulators). I don't disagree with your point, gambling is a massive issue not just for TD games, but for many popular Roblox games nowadays, however, I don't think it's fair to target a completely wrong game in the subject. (PS: ASTD does have some strategy, even more so than TDS to an extent if you include Leaderboards for the game: coming from a former ASTD & TDS player) Edit: During the time I used to play ASTD, the only robux i've ever spent on the game was VIP & 3x Speed (VIP giving extra rewards during AFK & 3x speed for convenience) both of which is not necessary to be "good"/lucky at the game.

This is overall a really good video and I do like how your spreading awareness of this. My issue is the ASTD segment. You harped on the wrong currency. Your argument should have been focused on stsrdust, not gems. And also in ASTD, you can get a really good amount of stardust by tower mode, and codes. Stsrdust isn’t in the full clear at all, but at least there is a way. Gems, damage task exist. It’s the easiest and fastest way to get gems, and as long as you can get the general idea of it, you won’t beg for gems. Edit: I’m sorry but I gotta take it back. The rest of the reasoning sucked and your ending was horrible. These dames were never pay to win, especially ASTD, which is the least. Also saying not to play them is way too extreme. I agree that TTD has no effort, but still.

The good thing about tower battles and tds is that they were both born out of a certain extent of love, care, and creativity. This comes from the fact that the whole tower defense genre on roblox was generally new. Sure, there are certain aspects of gambling in tds (premium and deluxe crates) they are both just cosmetics. The game is challenging to get a certain tower you want then just literal gambling. Of course youre able to buy coins, but that isnt gambling. It's more of just making a legitimate genuine purchase of something you want rather then rolling the dice and seeing what you'll get. Thats what makes games like tb and tds so good, theres a real challenge in getting the next thing you want. In games like toilet td or all star td theres no challenge, you roll the dice, hope you get want, rinse and repeat. To connect to what i have said in the beginning, tds and tb were unique because they were some of the first strategy tower games on roblox, while games such as (again) toilet td or all star td were made purely to leech off of tds and tb's large success. A game needs to be unique for it to truly succeed. If tds wasnt unique in its own ways, or if the devs didnt put any effort in, it 100% wouldnt have gotten that bloxy in 2021. Not to mention that tds puts some genuine effort into their somewhat inconsistent updates. Tds has made some ways of making money wether it be plushies or merch, but again, that's making a genuine purchase, and there is some quality out into them

As a Gacha player, I must say ASTD is pretty generous with their in game currency. I can get 1200+ diamonds and about 25 stardust from my daily quests alone. Grinding out story mode and tower mode would give you many more stardust and diamonds. I never felt the need to spend any money for a specific unit.

heres the thing, gems and the currency is quite easy to get, and the odds of getting the unit arent too bad so I dont see the big problem here, there are so many towers in that game that they cant make a shop to buy the towers, I personally dont play the game much due to its bad graphics and gameplay but when i do the tower system isnt that bad, i got 10 5 stars since i got gems for free, now again how you said that the 1 star units are way worse than 5-7 star units makes sense since you need to have bad towers in the game to be as starter towers (like paintballer in tds for example) in my honest opinion I dont think its too bad BUT they should remove some of the ingame gamepasses

Hey! prob the most mature toilet tower defense player here, I just want to point out the things CORSO said in this video about ttd that I do not agree with.The “gambling” system in ttd unlike most tower defense games is not the main way to get units. Most units are obtained by trading. Along with that I also want to say that its is EXTREMELY easy to alot of rolls without spending any money on the game. With and without 2x money (which is only about $1.5) PS. loved the vid

although i do agree that gambling in a roblox tower defence shouldn't be the main focus, i do believe in some tower defence games it can be sort of okay as long as the rates are REASONABLE and the way of obtaining the pulling currency isn't too predatory. (take this with salt as i am bias because i play arknights)

I have asked several people I know who played these types of td games on rblx , and the majority either say they just join their friend for fun, or that the game itself is about their favorite genre and stuff, so they really don’t care about the quality and all. The idea of capturing something known to the mainstream and making it into a game no matter the quality really is an issue here, especially among the younger audiences that make up most of the platform itself. Also man your voice is so deep that I felt intrigued listening to it like a crime scene document lol. Good stuff man.

Also, the only gambling in TDS is helping you get a deluxe crate from the weekly mission or opening the gold crate which the gold crate is the only gambling which gives you an advantage

I used to play astd but i just noticed how this was making me lost my time, they added A LOT OF THINGS to do f2p players quit, they already added in the game the "orbs" that is something u get to make your unit stronger, but they are HARD to get and you had to spent days faming for those, also it was for units in game that could just being reworked or buffed, i was so tired of this that i gave up on trying and i never played the game again after that, now i play tds because its easy to be a f2p and i can chill while playing.

Good tower defense games suffer due to these games some examples being tower blitz, tower battles, and mecha cubes. If you want to play some good tower defense games play these three, not the popular ones.

This problem is definetely happening in the entire roblox community now and its sad that even the tower defense community is experiencing it

Tbh ASTD is pretty f2p friendly. I have almost every stardust unit in the game without even spending a penny (at level 130). The rates are pretty good compared to other games where getting a good unit is like a 0.025% chance. The damage tasks give you enough gems to basically buy any unit in the game on the banner. The gambling systems sucks but like how I said before you get tons of gems so it doesn't even matter. To guarantee getting a 6 star you need to spend over 6000 gems which you can get in only 1-5 matches (last around 20+ minutes depending on what towers you have) unlike tds where you have to spend hours trying to get a tower like accel. It not hard to start off either because some of the 5 star units do thousands of damage which can easily carry you. There is also codes that are given out on almost every update which usually give at least 100 stardust. 7 stars are actually pretty easy to get as long as you have the right units or you can just do with friends if you can't do it solo. I do agree that the costs for gems/stardust are absolutely absurd considering how easy it is to get the currency. ASTD also does need skill. There are multiple roles people need to take in order to get far in modes like inf. Such as people using important abilities at the right time,Ts(time stop) micro,Good tower placement, etc. Tbh TDS doesn't even require much skill either. All you need to do is spam good towers like ranger accel engi with the exception of hard events. I can beat fallen mode without paying barely any attention to the game. Even hardcore is becoming easier for players to beat.

tower defense simulator is fun overall the thing ive noticed that there such a wide range of things to do like golden towers only or starter towers only or hardcore towers only. It all has a meaning and u can easily have fun whilst doing so. Because some towers are really hard to get like (Accelerator or Engineer) but you can still have fun while grinding for them

Before I tried Roblox TDS games, I played BTD6. It was fun, not really grindy, and F2P friendly. Then I got into Anime Adventures. Found myself getting the battle passes and spending a lot of time grinding for units that easily becomes obsolete after 1-2 updates. I stopped playing since I started hating the cycle of how the game worked and the practices they do. I'ma just stick to Monkey TDS since they care about their players

i feel like this is just the same as the counter strike gambling scene, people do sponsors because it is too much money to resist, and valve doesnt take action because they benefit from users opening cases so it is too much money to resist

The skibidi toilet tower defence game is definitely bad but getting that mythical is not as bad as you would think as there are 2x luck boosts you can get for free by staying in the game before an update comes out and a game pass that gives you 2x luck (that’s somewhat affordable)so the number you describe can be reduced by 4x bringing it down to a more reasonable but still not good amount of 35$ worth of robux, but… There is another tower even harder to get, the tv spider it is a 0.1% chance on a crate that costs 200 gems each (luck boosts don’t even work on this too) and if you were to buy the best value offer for gems you would be spending 5k robux for 10k gems (I’m not certain on this value but I’m pretty sure this is about it) and you would need 200,000 gems to likely get it with my math that equates to about 100,000 robux and that would cost a little under 1,000$ yea… this game is even worse than you thought it was. I’m pretty sure this unit is just bait for RU-vidrs to spend their money on the game.

alright lets get this started gambiling in astd: your acting as if any tower defense doesnt have gambiling..tower defense sim, gambiling in skins, and then most of everything else has gambiling in towers, sure its a chance buuut theres also you know, a pity system for the 5/6 stars in astd, if your calling out gambiling in astd you might as well just call out every single tower defense game on the roblox platform astd evolutions: your saying that the tanjiro 2 5 star is useless compared to the tanjiro 2 7 star, OBVIOUSLY???? dude the point of getting the 5 star in the first place is to UPGRADE it to the 7 star because it gives the game more CONTENT in going around and getting stuff for the EVOLUTION of the 5 star, i dont know why you would think a 5 star and a 7 star should be around the same or anything astd evolutions(again): your saying that itd cost a shit ton of money to get the stardust, gems, and coins to go around and obtain the unit and evolve it, my guy, it doesnt require robux to obtain the stuff, if the people spend robux on those things thats their choice, if you do challenges and do storyline, you could EAAAASIILLLYYYYY obtain that amount without a sweat, i dont know why your bringing up prices like 74 / 93 dollars for all of that when almost all people simply just grind for it, getting rid of whatever point your trying to make here tds also represents gambiling and can get money from it by the way, the skin crates have INSANELY amounts of percentages that vary in tons of crates, including TONS of skins if you look at them, 10k coins cost 800 robux, 10 dollars, a singular bundle of one crate that includes 5-6 skins is 850 robux, another 10 dollars, so if your trying to say tds is somehow better than these tower defense games in terms of gambiling and manipulation, its really not 👍

I do agree that all star has a really bad way of getting units but it isnt as bad as you made it out to be, for example I am free to play and have almost every meta unit in the game and I havent spent a dime on it. There are characters locked behind a paywall but they arent meta relevant because you can just get one way better by just playing but the reason it costs money is because there are some characters which have something called a blessing which are reserved for limited units or 7 stars that are like an in-game cosmetic usually having to do with a reference to the anime. You could argue that a couple meta units are from the star pass but yet again the star pass can also appear in the banner giving you a chance to get the unit for free. Also gems are given out like candy in the game because there is a damage task which you can do to get thousands of gems (I have personally gotten 100k) which is just do a certain amount of damage for gems and it gets reset every major update and there are tons of codes that give both gems and stardust. I wont meat ride them too much though because the stardust system is really bad because instead of giving a 7 star to an already existing unit they just clone it and put it on the star dust banner and one of these examples is guts which before it became a 7 star it had a 6 star but what they did was make a whole new unit instead of just upgrading the already existing one.

I swear a lot of games will become a lot more about grinding than having fun
