Thank you Cult Records for producing cool things, your music is freedom and freedom is what we want. Thank you Warren, you're a genius. Thank you Julian.
Words to live by "music is freedom" something an old friend once said to me that always stuck, I like the addition "and freedom is what we want" true wisdom 👌🤘
I love the songwriting. With the grungy instrumental, I get the vibe of someone who deals with expectations of being a "man" and being an upright person, but finds themselves unable to do either. Instead they're just around, coasting through life faded and depressed. I relate.
[Verse 1] Yes, I'm only a man Judgements of something ancient Clocking my time as finished The same is all replacements Ignorance is complacency Why I am purposely faded No stand, no sit, no stopping Ripping through the neon prophecies Got let off by a ticket stub My time is fading fast Through your mouth and out your [Chorus] (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) Come down (You oughta wash your hands and pray) For what? (Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood) Pass it round (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) For now (You promise that you'll come around?) I'll be around So I fear, but I don't know what it is So I want, but I pretend I don't need So here's the pain of the stop of a lover’s kiss I throw my pages all away like shaking wrists So shake me down Shake me up (shake me down, shake me down) [x2] So shake me up [Chorus] (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) Hey now (You oughta wash your hands and pray) For what? (Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood) Pass it round (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) Come down (You promise that you'll come around?) I'll be around [Verse 2] I tell me it ain't hard As I hold my breath thinking why Tell me to my beating heart That I know for sure (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) Better than I can know for sure (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) What is real (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) My mistakes bend like payphone metal (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) I never know just what will come (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) As our [?] hands bind together (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) River and me children (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) Longer than a trillion (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) Get what I am given, forever (Shake me up, shake me down, shake me down) (So shake me up) [Chorus] (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) Come down (You oughta wash your hands and pray) For what? (Shaking hands, swapping dirty blood) Pass it round (You never do what you say) Say what? (Shine till the sun comes up) For now (You promise that you'll come around?)
I was sitting in a speakeasy bar in Hudson Mass drinking an old fashioned when I heard The Growlers playing. I asked the bartender who the group was and he told me. I have been hooked every since. These guys are terrific
I fell in love with this band when they performed in Festival Catrina in Puebla, Mexico in 2016. They caught my attention with this song and 'til now it has been one of my favorite songs ever!
When The Growlers first came up on my Spotify I assumed they were a bunch of relics from the 60s/70s that were still making music that either refused to change or didn't know how to because they were making music for so long (in a good way).
“Dream World” music video premiere tonight at 7PM (LA time) at The Growlers' RU-vid Channel. Tune in to Instagram Live at 630PM to hang with Brooks and “Dream World” co-star Heather the Doll.
ok obviously the sound is WAAAY different from any other album that they’ve made but this is still a great album. It’s not top 3 but it’s still super, the sound is amazing and totally retro, lyrics are awesome, and this vid is rad as fuck. they’re taking their music in a new direction, or maybe they just wanted to try something different. either way I totally support my fav band:)🧡
Dang, can't believe I'm just now discovering The Growlers. This stuff is fantastic. Came here from their Rubber and Bone video, which was just as great. Apart from the great sound, I haven't seen anything this weird since The Avalanches' Frontier Psychiatrist".
At least 50% of this video should be dedicated to long takes of Brooks walking down the hall dancing while singing, that would really make this amazing.
I still can't believe as a kid they sold us their drums.. fast forward to being an adult who uncovered this hometown gem. Santa Ana Beach Goth vibes all the fucking way
If you listen, in the beginning. They're playing Night Ride, a song about how partying is ultimately useless and always leaves people destroyed. Now in this song, here is Brooks in the hospital after partying. Pretty smooth I say
