There are actually a lot of parallels with The Universal Church of Truth, and New Age Religion alongside things like Rhonda Byrnes' The Secret... the church I used to attend was literally called "The Truth Centre" and the one across town was called "Church of Truth"... weird...anyways, great video!! I'm definitely getting this game!
This game got a better story then all the MCU :D Everything come together in the end :D The bad guy actually have a very gud tho bad but sad motive D: I LUV the Drax story in here, n I didn't like him at all in the movie :D I wish they did more with Gamora! She was the weakest link for me D: I never read the comic but I feel the Gamora movie was written better.
I was surprised how much I liked this version of the Guardians. They're great in their own ways, that don't feel like MCU knockoffs. I'd argue this Starlord is even better because he actually feels like a competent leader.
To be honest I love these versions of the Guardians Of The Galaxy more than the movie version, due to the fact of some character choices. Mostly Peter reason of not going back to Earth, and Drax’s more prominent vengeance with Thanos.
I've already heard stories of people huddling during the final battle and getting "never gonna give you up", or "wake me up before you go" and a few other songs that don't really fit big bad themes and it just makes an otherwise serious fight hilarious because of it.
You ever remember how far you’ve come after practicing something enough times? Yeah, that was me with the Team Huddle. I went from a Success/Failure pattern to a long Success streak that lasted till the end of the freaking game, and I, too, was getting Rickrolled during climactic battles.
The production design/art direction of this game is mindblowingly insane. Besides the terrific story, I almost couldnt pay attention because I was so impressed with the attention to detail in the worlds they made.
I literally just finished this game a couple minutes ago and it was honestly one of my favourite video game experiences ever, I was hooked on every finely-crafted detail and loved how realised the world and characters felt! It even made me so emotional that I cried towards the end! What a beautiful game, I cannot wait to play it all over again!!
All I heard about this game before I bought it was "It's pretty good, definitely better than Avengers" but that is selling it so short. I'm almost finished the game and I was not expecting it to be this good. It managed the greatest feat of all, which is creating a unique and equally compelling and likable version of the Guardians that doesn't at all feel like it's trying to be James Gunn's Guardians.
I actually like the Gamora and Mantis game version than movie version. Seeing Gamora laughing and joking with the guardians makes her feel more like apart of the team. And Mantis is more useful here than in the movies
I’m on the end credits for the first time right now. This was one of the most hilarious, touching, thrilling games I have ever played in my life. This is right up there for me with Insomniac’s Spider-Man.
I was enjoying the beginning of the game, but then, when you're flying away, trying to escape the quarantine zone, and I Ran (So Far Away) starts playing - that's when I knew I loved this game 😁👌
My GOTY. I wasn't even a big GOTG fan; haven't ever followed the comics and only seen the first movie. But Eidos and Square Enix crafted this video game to near perfection, with the story, dialogue, soundtrack, and game interface. The gameplay is great fun and more varied than I had heard; the abilities and perks are fun to use. How refreshing to have a linear game of this quality this day and age. And most of all the cast is spectacular and make you easily fall in love with their characters; they are the real main attraction.
Gotta say, I will say that Guardians of the Galaxy game is right up there as my favorite games of all time, but it is right behind PS5's Spider-Man. The reason that is so is because it gives you the closest and best feeling of what it feels to be Spidey. It's the only game in my life that I still replay quite often, just for that immersion and also the only one I've played to 100% completion in everything. Plus, the story for it was one of the best I've seen for Spidey outta the comics, not ashamed to say that I did cry a bit in this game...another thing that only Spidey did for me. That all being said, Guardians is amazing on it's own right and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One little detail I really enjoyed from this game was how Gamora has a tiny bit of arrested development shown by her love of collecting dolls. In other words, while Gamora's heavily branded herself as the deadliest woman in the galaxy, a part of herself still wants to have the childhood Thanos denied her.
Finally played the game after it went on sale for 30 bones. Honestly, would've gladly payed the full price if I knew how much I enjoyed it. I know it's rare to say this about a triple-A game but this might be my biggest surprise of 2021. Loved it just as much I loved the movies. The moment I saw how they showed the title I knew they were going to nail the tone of the Guardians.
I agree that the writing and voice acting was great, except for star lord. The VA sounded whiny the entire time with not much variation. It got cringey. Rocket and Drax were stellar though
I will say I thought Drax was at least second most improved. They took his movie concept and ran with it to a quality and consistency the movies don't even match. I was admiring how much I liked this version of the character even before his big story beat hit.
This game is fantastic. I loved the gameplay and the story and on top of that it's one of the best optimized games I've played on pc. Ultra settings with rtx enabled is playable and it has the best implementation of DLSS I've seen in any game yet.
It was such a pure fun experience - no uselessly big open world, enganging but to the point mechanics, great story, fun dialogue etc... it's a self contained experience and I missed a game that's good in this sense
this game has sooooo much dialogue that it pulls u into that world and u feel like ur actually peter quill and apart of the team with the choices that u can make. to me it feels like i got to know the characters alot more in a personal level alot more in any of the movies. this game makes u connect more with the characters. this is definitely my favorite version of guardians hopefully eidos Montréal can deliver on that sequel bcuz this game deserves it. what i love about this game the most is that everything is earn in game there's no dlc, no microtransactions just straight gameplay. took me back on what gaming used to be like in the golden days in ps2 era when none of that existed.
So glad to see you cover this game. It’s undoubtedly my favorite game to come out this year. Hope to see you do a spoiler filled discussion on it at some point.
Loved this game, and am working my way back through to make different decisions and clean up trophies. Agree with most of what you said, but this game is much longer than you gave it credit for. 20 hours for a first time playthrough minimum, unless you're trying to blitz it for some reason.
... Dan Abnett writes comic books? I've read a bunch of his novels and never knew this, neat. Edit: AND HE ADDED A FLYING CATHEDRAL SPACESHIP subtle Dan, subtle.
The soundtrack to me beating the final boss was Never Gonna Give You Up. I feel like that sums up the Guardians of the Galaxy more than any synopsis could.
Great video Nando! I just wanted to post this if anyone wanted to reply and discuss stuff that spoils the game. So...you know, SPOILERS if haven't played.
Um no... spiderman was much better. Great game though. The actual playing of the gaurdians videogame wasn't exactly that fun though. Shooting as petter is not what anyone wanted in a gaurdians game
LOVE hearing you talk about Guardians 2008. it, Annihilation, and Annihilation Conquest are IT for me. They are the comics that got me INTO comics. I love them so much. and the version of Star-lord in them is one of my favorite heroes.
Rewatching this video and saw your comment. I was late to the game on Annihilation et al., but checked it out sometime after playing this game and...yeah, I absolutely loved it, especially the first Annihilation and the subsequent Nova run (shot him right up the list to one of my fave heroes after previously being "that guy from New Warriors, no, not Speedball"), though the DNA Guardians were pretty solid. I think the only subsequent Guardians run to rival it in entertaining me was Ewing's run, with the inspired choices of Hercules and Marvel Boy in there, though I'm generally a fan of Ewing's stuff (not all, but a lot of it).
My 2nd favorite superhero game of all time right behind Batman Arkham Asylum specifically. The Arkham writes ar my favorites and I still need to play Spider-Man. This game is truly something special and was my 2021 GOTY hands down No contest.
The game play is nothing all that special, but it's not bad. Honestly think of it like Mass Effect: the game play there ranged from bad to good, but never incredible (I'm excepting ME 2 Vanguard here because that was ridiculous and really should be its own game). In Guardians the play is decent enough and even has some narrative ties to the subplot of the team working together better, the worst to say about it is mostly that it can get repetitive and its a bit easy.
I missed saying, really this is more like a Telltale or Bioware title where the conversations are the real game, and the fighting is more to break things up and give some context than the focus.
My only nitpick will always be Rocket's voice. Dont get me wrong, I love his voice in the game. But I just want them to give him his cockney accent back.
Gotta admit, as an older person who has played a TON of video game tie in games over the decades, and of course almost all of them suck, as well as being feeling disappointed by MCU related games that weren't cast with their movie counterparts, even though I understand the costs that prevent it, THIS GAME ROCKED!!!! I mean to the point where the characters in the game were AS engaging IF NOT MORE than their MCU counterparts. How shocking is that? Bottom line: Good writing makes a good game, not dynamics designed to make me want to reach for my wallet while I'm playing.

I finished the game about a week ago and I'm playing it again, one of the best game I've played in a while. I'm a huge gotg fan and this did NOT disappoint. 10/10. high recommend, worth every penny.
I went and played the Guardians of the Galaxy game because of this video and I LOVED it. Definitely a more favorite characterization than the movies, especially Star-lord
Do you know what was a wasted opportunity in the What if series is that there should have been an episode where villains like Zemo, Abomination and Killmonger become heroes instead of villains.
For me, it's hard to choose. Shooting Quill's mom felt horrible, but seeing Drax abandon his fantasy was just as sad. Same goes for Gamora explaining how she broke her Promise so easily. The writing and acting for this game was just incredible.
I don’t think the story was that good… the characters were amazing and that’s why I continued the game. But the story was mediocre at best. I think more inner conflict or a more RPG based story system would go much better then this generic save the universe story. I liked spending time with the guardians but did not care for what they were doing outside the team.

i reeeeeeeeeally wanna play this game..........but i still cannot get over the fact that you can only command the other guardians rather than take turns playing as all of them.
