I'd honestly love to see a situation where Leontus becomes the big rival to the Hivemind, almost similar to the Orks and Commissar Yaric. It's honestly good to get more regular human bad asses who's strength come from their tactical intellect and charisma rather then hectic dueling or plot armour.
holy terra! FIVE Custodians died??? That must have been a beast strong enough to slain greater deamons on its own. because in the siege of terra the custodes sent several deamons back to hell with fewer casualties. Sandman? can you please make a lore vid on that new breed of the nids?
Considering that that many Custodians were canonically able to kill off a splinter of a hive fleet on their own with no reinforcements at all, a single Norn Emissary got a higher body count of Custodes than an entire splinter fleet. The Nids are getting stronger... Granted, the Custodes in this case were probably slowed down by having to protect a squishy human, but the Custodes in the previous case did have precious cargo to escort too, if memory serves, and there were far more Custodes this time, and they had a gunship too. They had a gunship that the Norn Emissary brought down, that is, on top of the infantry kills, so the Norn Emissary is absolutely broken. One of the other Norn Emissaries waltzed into a room with like 10 Space Marine Dreadnoughts and killed most of them, too, right in front of half the entire chapter of Space Marines... the Nids are getting deadlier!
@zahirmartinnez211 Makes sense... I recall them saying this might be the Tyranid equivalent of fielding a Primarch, though I don't know how true that is anymore. I'm a bit out of the loop.
In a universe filled with unimaginably powerful monsters and gods its awesome to hear stories of the achievements of "normal" men holding their own against them
Once again Sandman, you knocked this shit out the park! Dude i love your content, your delivery and knowledge and passion for the hobby can not be understated! Well done brother.
@@Vasilefs_Terranorumthey are during the Great Crusade and the subsequent Horus Heresy. Although an Imperial Guard regiment trained to the discipline and clad in the wargear of the old Auxilia, that would be badass.
Hes a testament to humanity and how, whether transhuman or not, humankind will either survive, thrive, or fight for every millimeter until the bitter end.
It’s interesting that the hive mind had to send out its own lords to kill one of the imperiums main leaders. Knowing how much of a threat they oppose. Also it was close Lord solar leontus was saved by the custodians. Otherwise his death would have turned the tide of the war. The hive mind itself tends to adapt and evolve at a frightening speed. But getting outwitted by a regular human and failed to kill him is pretty embarrassing. That what you get for being a Xeno after all.
Macharius; Yarrick, Al 'Rahem, Chenkov, Schaeffer, Stumper Muckstart, Mogul Kamir, Kell, Pask, Bastonne, and Creed gone. Nork; Straken, Harker, and Marbo all still kicking though. It's a real shame, even though they replaced creed and gave us a lord solar again, the faction has lost so much character since 2nd edition.
I like the new Lord Solar and his ability to lead and work with the forces of the Imperium. He was good enough for the Norn Emmissary to target him over Astartes and even Custodes. Although Valoris could have taken over and beem better in strategy he wouldn't have the moral boost on the soldiers like him.
Badass! As close to baseline human as his position allows and he's a damn fuck machine! His military mind is on par with Guilliman. Appreciate you showcasing a "mortal human". Good stuff Sandy!
Also running theory.... Solar.... And the effective golden warriors... The after image's of an astarties that resembles sanguinis in a golden mask... The sanginor... Are really just the psychic impact that man has in general... Just at the same rate and potency as the emperor... Which could explain him being targeted instead of the emperor.. Also resulting in a massive feedback loop when he reaches death's door... For if I'm not mistaken he's not a perpetual... But the echo would allow for the emperor to return and subsequently solar's immediate revival.
Great story telling. And intriguing topic. Though perhaps a tad heavy on the dramatization? Personally I like it when you just tell it regularly. You already have a great storyteller voice. No need to embellish it any further. At least not on my part! Take care, man. Keep the content coming ❤ And have a good one. PPS! The dramatization was only a bit heavy in the introduction. After watching the rest of the video, and while watching it. It kept me hooked! Well done. PS! Thank you thank you thank you for introducing me to starforged! I'm not sure I will buy the backpack. But......they had several items I have only dreamt of being cool to own!!! In particular the jewelry. This is a childhood dream come true! Sure it'd take some time acquiring. But just knowing it's there is amazing! Thank you.
Thanks man, I do really appreciate the feedback! Always trying to improve! Just for my reference, which parts do you think are over dramatic? I will take a look
@@SandmanofTerra There's something about the intro that doesn't quite fit right. I think it's that the dramatization doesn't quite fit the narrative. In the sense that you're really more just telling factual context, and in essence not really a story if that makes sense. I think it becomes too reminiscent of that stereotypical trailer voice "This summer. No one ever saw it coming! Except for. One man. His name is. *insert protagonist name*". With that said. It felt right when you got to the main part of the story, where the actual action and main events happened. But bare in mind. You have a really good natural storytelling voice! So putting extra effort into it can risk it becoming over the top, if that makes sense. Hope this feedback helps! Take care, man. Have a good one.
Honestly, the guy came out of nowhere, they should have made him the son of Lord Commander Solar Macharius himself. Dunno which is stranger him or that lunch lady - daughter of Creed. Maybe there is some insane lore about him, we haven't seen or I haven't read.
I think because they gave creed a daughter they probably felt it would be a bit much to give macharius a son, but I think he'll end up being macharius 2.0
Honestly, I think new characters all being the offspring, relatives or even descendants of major characters is a vastly overused trope. I'm glad gw is at least some what avoiding this. Ultimately if they want to move the plot forward, they need to do it with new characters for better or worse.
Another character from GW with Karl Franz syndrome, like Morven Vahl. Handsome, genius level intellect, warrior with superlative skills, charming, charismatique leader, shrewd tactician and politician, etc. Impossibly perfect.
There are have been plenty of leaders in history who are like this. They would be even more common in 40k due to how humanity's population in the 40th millennium have reached literal trillions
No matter if a man is astartes, scout, infantryman, general, commissar etc for I the lion will respect someone who will accept and try to redeem their failings no matter the cost, lord leonus is and will be the lord solar and the leader of the militarum just like us we are the leaders and father's of his angels of death! We humans we always have 1 above us who will rise to greastes beyond!
That's great, I really hope they add some. After, After reading the Ciaphas Caine books I really started to build an appreciation for the guard.@@SandmanofTerra
I think having a genuine "good" guy character being both an imperium noble from terra (long noted as a teeming hotbed of base treachery and venal corruption) and the Supreme leader of the astra militarum (equally well known as an organization both self serving and uncaring) is kind of a betrayal of the very ethos of the setting. In many ways, it is a far greater retcon than the various character revisions and historical and cultural minutiae alterations that we all complains about constantly. Its nice that gw is actually trying to create new guard characters, even if he is kind of a macharius ripoff. I get why they went this route, "lone atistocrat of virtue" is new, as opposed to "good man fightin the system" and "maverick going his own way", both done to death, as has "tough but fair authoritarian"
When did u get idea that Astra militarum is all about self serving and uncaring? Do u confuse it with Adeptus Ministorum? Vast majority of the Guards, from the grunts to The Lord/Lady Generals to the supreme Commanders of each Segmentum, are loyal soldiers who fought valiantly for the Imperium. Sure, throwing men to the enemies are cold hearted but it is the most reliable method considering the limits of warp travel, u can't have appropriate regiments, suitable for each threat, available on appropriate warzones. The warp makes that impossible. So they could only send enough to to defeat the threats.
Probably from reading lore published b4 8th edition. High ranking commanders like lugo, chenkov, etc. were the rule not the exception. Pretty much every one if the old imperial guard novels highlighted how awful guard life waz, with 15 hours being particularly good at inducung feelings of violation by authority. I feel 40k has lost something with its turn away from its uniqueness as the franchise where there are no good guys and protaginists frequently failed horribly.
@@alexmacdonald1998 At the same time, we have Ciaphas Cain with Other Valhallan regiments nowhere near level of Chenkov. Honestly, could Chenkov's unit even be called Valhallan with all those conscipts? We had Gaunt's ghosts, we saw other regiments fought alongside them. None show that kind of horribleness. 15 hours... What about other of the same Guard batch, only read a few of them but they seem to be nowhere level of grim like 15 hours. It seems the statistics were to that specific warzone or used for dramatic effect. The lore of Guards always stretch that due to difference between Segmentums, Sectors, Subsectors, Lord Generals... The experience of a Guardman could be radically different Maybe because i got into 40k with Ciaphas Cain first so my impression was opposite of u.
Contrast that with gaunts ghosts, where "corrupt general bbeg" is an ongoing trope. Long ago, 40k stories were not novels, they were short stories in magazines. Thats actually where gaunts ghosts started. These stories are full of dark stories about guardsmem being betrayed and ill used. They frequently did not have sequels because the characters all died. The imperial guard as a corrupt institutuon is a major theme in earlier 40k. Im actually kind of surprised im having to explain this. For further reading, i would suggest pre 6th ed guard codex, anthologies like words of blood, galaxy in flames and the h&b compilations.
@@SandmanofTerra don't know about that GW replaced him on table top with is daughter 🙄 and we all know how tight fisted they are with models they are going to print it for 20 years before finally getting rid of the damned thing
